Financial Planning for Cancer: Year of Community

Our Financial Treatment Program is designed to make the financial side of cancer as easy to manage as possible for patients and caregivers. In 2020, we gained an even deeper appreciation for the multifaceted community that makes Financial Planning for Cancer an impactful and accessible component of our comprehensive support services.

2020 proved that our community is key to our success. Our collaborative efforts included: • Online Community: We launched our virtual hub for volunteer financial planners in 2019, and in 2020 it became the go-to place for sharing new resources and supporting each other during the challenges of the pandemic.

• Planner insight: Through focus groups, trainings, and check-in meetings, we handed the mic to our volunteer financial planners to better understand impact and areas for improvements from their perspectives. • Social worker insight: Working closely with our in-house

Resource Navigators and hospital partners, we discussed how we can adjust our program messaging and materials to reach patients more effectively.

• FFP and FPA support: We leaned on each other’s expertise to continue serving families during an extremely difficult year and shared virtual resources for both financial planners and patients.

“Today, I am much better than a year ago. Everything I’ve learned from my financial planner, I’ll keep it dear to my heart.”

— Pamela, adult cancer patient
