The Worry Cabinet
The Worry Cabinet
In every person’s brain is a worry cabinet. It’s where all the things that you worry about lurk and sometimes it can get a bit over-full. Write your worries on the labels; the little drawers are for small everyday worries, and the big drawers are for the things that you worry about the most. When we write down our worries, it can make them seem less scary. If you work with your child on this activity, it can help them to work out which worries need the most attention, so that you can tackle them together one by one, and find solutions for them.
Things you can’t control Once you have finished the worry cabinet, try getting rid of the worries that you can’t control - like thunderstorms or something you have heard about on a news programme. See if you can compile a list from your worry drawers of the things you can’t control. Once you realise that these things are out of your hands, it becomes easier to stop worrying about them.
The Worry Cabinet is an activity for children taken from The Worry Workbook: The Worry Warriors Activity Book by Imogen Harrison, published by Summersdale.
