Green School Runs With approximately 16,000 pupils travelling to Hampstead every school day, it is no surprise the NW3 school run is notorious for causing congestion and contributing to illegally high local air pollution levels. In autumn 2018 a group of local parents decided to take action and started working on viable solutions to reduce congestion and improve air quality in Hampstead. Green School Runs, a not-for profit, organisation was subsequently formed. This Group has established strong relationships with local schools, Camden Council, and many local residents. The Group has promoted and implemented a number of alternatives to driving to schools, including a system of multi
school buses (t h lb (travel.zeelo.co) l l ), car sharing h (mainly through the use of Homerun, a school journey app homerun-app.com) and walking buses. Green School Runs has also worked to increase awareness of air pollution, including its causes and effects, amongst local parents and children. North London Parents who share concerns about the quality of the air that they and their children breathe, are invited to take action and join Green School Runs. Letter from Santa Children love to receive a letter addressed to them in the post, but what could be more special than a letter from Santa? Here are two ways of making this happen…
Royal Mail Letter to Santa For children to receive a free letter from Santa via the Royal Mail children must post their letter to Santa by Friday 6 December. Envelopes must have either a first or second class stamp and be addressed to Santa/Father Christmas, Santa’s Grotto, Reindeerland, XM4 5HQ. New Children’s One-Stop Allergy Clinic The Royal Free London – Private Patients Unit has opened a new one-stop children’s allergy clinic. The clinic is led by Consultant Paediatricians, Dr Maity, Dr Chodhari and Dr Man (pictured). The allergy clinic offers a comprehensive investigation and assessment of paediatric allergies. The Private Patients Unit, Consultant Paediatricians said it is vital allergies are correctly diagnosed and treated early so parents know how to identify symptoms and manage them. Allergic symptoms can vary from a sniffle to severe anaphylaxis. There are many different triggers to an allergic reaction such as animals, dust, nuts, wheat and pollen among other things.

5 tips For Taking Better Family Photos This Christmas With smart phones more accessible than ever before families are taking lots of photos of their children, but how can you improve the quality? North London family and personal branding photographer, Katherine Millard, shares her top tips.
1. Find the best natural light. Turn off your flash or overhead lights and get outside or shoot next to a window. Play around with different direction of light. Having the light falling on your subject from the side or directly on will give the best results.
2. Never ask your kids to smile! It’s a sure way to get a super cheesy and staged photograph. Get your children talking by asking them a question or to sing a song, and wait for the fall out, a laugh, a pause or a far away thinking glance.
3. Tell the story. Take a step back and incorporate the tiny details of your environment. Include favourite toys, the way the nursery looks or use a doorway or wall to better frame the picture. Or fill the frame entirely with your subject making a nice tight portrait.
4. Get creative with different perspectives. Lay down on the floor and shoot up close or get up on a stool and shoot overhead while they draw and focus on hands or faces. www.katherinemillardphotography.com
Use burst mode to get a great sequence and catch the magical in-between moments when children are being themselves.
5. Set up your camera on a tripod and use it with a remote. Set it up the night before Christmas morning and fire off shots as you all sit around and open gifts! North London born Actress Emma Jay Thomas is starring as The Demon Queen in Millfield Theatre’s crackin’ Panto eggstrava-gander, Mother Goose. Take a look at what she has to say about pantomime, superpowers & Barack Obama! I started by going to Mountview Theatre School - it was a one-year postgraduate course in Musical Theatre and Acting.
What are some of your career highlights? I really loved being in the original cast of Mama Mia, in the West End! That was a really lovely experience. I also enjoyed being in Miss Saigon, where I got to wear a bikini on stage - I wouldn’t want to do that now but at the time it was great! I also really enjoyed touring with the Royal Shakespeare Company because I was able to work with such incredible people like Patrick Stuart (From Star Trek & X Men).
Is this your first time performing in a pantomime? No, this is my seventh time - I really love pantomime, it’s kind of life affirming. I’ve always had a great time performing pantomime, so I was thrilled to get this role.
When was your first time performing in a pantomime? I first performed pantomime in Oxford Playhouse in... Mother Goose! I played the Good Fairy. So I have turned it on its head, and now I’m on the DARK side.
Who is your all-time favourite staple panto character? I just love the Dame! The Dame is awesome, the Dame is a legend, all the dames I’ve ever seen have just been outstanding. They’re so funny, they entertain the children so well...they’re naughty but they also have heart...I just love a Dame! I can’t wait to see Mother Goose’s dame, I’m really looking forward to it.
Who would you most like to sing a duet with? I would love to sing a duet with Barack Obama - he’s a great singer! Have you heard?? He can sing! Occasionally in interviews he’ll suddenly start crooning
away, and I think to myself… oh my gosh, if I could sing with anyone, it would be him!
What would be your super power and why? I would like to be invisible. It’d be super great! It’ll also be a little freaky, you might hear things you didn’t want to hear, but hey it could be interesting right? Just to be in a room and hear what people are saying and be invisible….I’d love that!
