Welcome to the Spring issue of Families Surrey East. No sooner is Easter done and dusted, than we’re careering head first into half term and the Summer holidays. I’m sure you’re already planning ahead for kids activities over the long break, but there’s still 2 bank holidays and a half term in between! There’s tons going on over the May day hols – lots of country shows and fayres, festivals and exciting family events. For adventurous kids, check out the Little Welly in Leatherhead in June (p.22). We’ve included some Father’s Day ideas for dad’s days out on June 19th (p.10) and you’ll find a few pages of health and fitness for mums, including a plug for Curves in Redhill – my new fave gym (p.8-9)! The bi-annnual Parties Directory on pages 11-14 is invaluable if you’re planning a celebration in the next few months. We’ve listed lots of new cake makers and entertainers, so I hope you find something to suit. Finally, there are lots more Holiday Club listings on page 19, so if you’re already booking your Summer childcare, please tell them you saw them in Families.

First Aid Basics With ever increasing numbers of stories in the news about choking babies and children, people saving a child’s life with the use of CPR, and scary diseases such as meningitis, it’s no wonder that parents are starting to question what they would do if the worst happens. Here’s some useful first aid about choking to keep you and your family safe:
What to do if your baby is choking A baby or child gagging will involve loud coughing noises. Scarily, a baby or child choking is quite often silent. If you suspect your child is choking, your aim is to remove the obstruction.
Baby (0 -1 year old) • Lie the baby face down across or along your lap, with their head lower than their bottom. • Support the baby’s head from underneath by placing your thumb on one side of their jaw and one or two fingers on the other side. This is to make sure their airway is open. • Be careful not to press on the neck or the soft skin under the lower jaw. • Give up to five firm slaps to the baby’s back between their shoulder blades with the heel of your hand. • Pause between each blow to see if the blockage has cleared. Do not poke your fingers into the baby’s mouth unless you can see and reach the blockage, as you may push it further in. • If the airway is still blocked, give up to five chest thrusts.
Up to 5 chest thrusts
• Lie the baby face up along your arm, and lay your arm along or across your lap to support it. • Support the back of the baby’s head by cupping the lower part of your hand. • Find the breastbone, and place two fingers on the lower half of it. • Give five sharp chest thrusts (pushes) with your fingers, compressing the chest by about third of its depth. • Check whether the blockage has cleared. Do not poke your fingers into the baby’s mouth unless you can see and reach the blockage, as you may push it further in.
If obstruction still does not dislodge call 999 and repeat until help arrives.
Child (over 1 year old) • Stand behind the child and slightly to one side. Support their chest with one hand. Lean the person forward so that the object blocking their airway will come out of their mouth, rather than moving further down. • Give up to five sharp blows between the child's shoulder blades with the heel of your hand. • Check if the blockage has cleared. • If not, give up to five abdominal thrusts.
Up to 5 abdominal thrusts • Stand behind the child who is choking. • Place your arms around their waist and bend them forward. • Clench one fist and place it right above their belly button. • Put the other hand on top of your fist and pull sharply inwards and upwards. • Repeat this movement up to five times. If obstruction still does not dislodge call 999 and repeat until help arrives.
Early First Aid holds public 2-hr baby and child first aid workshops, at the cost of £20 per person. Pre-crawling babies are also welcome to attend. Private classes are also available in the comfort of your home and cost £120 for 1-6 people. Visit Early First Aid West Sussex/East Surrey on Facebook for more info.

Be a simplistic and mindful parent Families has received book reviews this month for two excellent parenting titles – Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne, and Peace of Mind: A Book of Calm for Busy Mums by Georgina Rodgers. Simplicity Parenting is about stripping back all of the ‘stuff’ in your childrens’ lives (all the toys, info, clubs, technology) and allowing them time to engage in play, exploration and relaxation. In a similar vein, Peace of Mind encourages parents to do the same. Instead of rushing around and filling your time, take a minute to enjoy being with your little (or big) ones. Turn off your phone, go for a ‘rainbow walk’, count to ten! We all lead busy lives, and these books encourage us to think more about the impact this is having on our family life. You can find more info about these books online at familiessurreyeast.co.uk

What is the Positive Birth Movement? We've all been there – you meet other mothers and the moment they see your bump they immediately want to tell you their birth story, which can leave you fearful and make you doubt your ability to give birth. Indeed, you might already be a mum and had a difficult experience first time, and sharing stories that conjure up images of birth as something to dread can damage a woman's approach to what can be the most empowering and positive experience of her life.
From that life-changing moment you find out you are pregnant, you start facing well-meaning advice and opinions on doing things a certain way.
expertise and positivity about childbirth. It aims to challenge the epidemic of negativity and fear that surrounds modern birth, and help change birth for the better. The movement was originally set up by Milli Hill in 2012, motivated by both her own birth experiences, and her growing frustration whenever she heard the words, "they didn't let me" in a birth story. She wanted women to feel supported, no matter what journey her birth may take her down.
How and where can women seek positive birth stories that can powerfully reframe this experience and gain the support of other mums and mums-to-be? The answer is The Positive Birth Movement (PBM). The PBM is a global network of free-toattend groups, connecting pregnant women and mothers together to share stories,
The PBM has recently been established in Redhill and Reigate by Miriam Greaves, a mother and Hypnobirthing teacher. She had a positive birth with her first born and soon realised how important it was for her to share this, not just on a personal level, but to also help pregnant women reframe the often negative perception of labour. Through her work and own experience, Miriam has learnt that a 'positive birth' simply means a birth in which a woman feels she has freedom of choice, access to accurate information, and is able to be in control, powerful and respected.
baby. A woman can birth with positivity in hospital or at home, with or without medical intervention. She can have a positive caesarean, or a positive home water birth. Positive birth is about approaching birth realistically, having genuine choice, and feeling empowered by your experience. The PBM aims to complement a parent's existing antenatal input and does not seek to replace medical advice. With over 300 groups worldwide PBM believes that communication is the key to shaking up birth. By coming together, in real life and online, and sharing experiences, feelings, knowledge and wisdom, women can take back childbirth. It's also a great way to meet other mums and mums-to-be over tea and cake! If you are pregnant, the PBM aims to be a helpful part of your pregnancy; a warm and welcoming place to hear stories and ideas, to consider what you really want from your childbirth experience, and to allay any fears or negative expectations you might have. So, if you're pregnant or have had a positive birth experience PBM would love to hear from you. To find out more please contact Miriam Greaves on mg@miriamgreaves.com or find them on Facebook.
The PBM is womancentred and, as such, respects a woman’s right to choose where and how she has her

The Modern Day Mary Poppins: A Guide to Employing a Nanny By Manjit Shah
Childcare is one of the key issues for all parents, especially when they decide to go back to work. There are 4 key options that parents are presented with – grandparents, childminder, nursery or a nanny. In recent years, the number of families opting to have a nanny care for their child has increased and it’s no longer deemed an elitist option.
What does a nanny do? The primary benefit is that a nanny cares for your child in your own home. They provide one to one childcare, building on your child’s learning development as well as performing some light household chores. They prepare the child’s meals, do the children’s laundry, ironing, take the child to any baby groups etc. For older children, they would take the children to school and collect them, help with their homework and take the children to playdates or after school activities. To have someone dedicated to the care and wellbeing of a child provides enormous peace of mind to any parent.
The Pros to having a nanny Peace of mind – parents are able to go to work knowing that their child is safe and cared for at home with a trustworthy childcare professional. Emergencies – if your child is sick and can’t go to school/nursery or if you have to work late, then there is someone to take care of them even if you can’t. One to one childcare – a nanny is there to focus on your child, which builds on the learning and development all in the comfort of your own home. The child is comfortable as they can still play with their own toys and you can maintain their routines. Family – nannies do this as a career as they have a genuine passion for caring for children.
They often become a member of the family and continue to stay in touch with the children once they have grown up.
The Cons to having a nanny Costs – employing a nanny isn’t cheap, however if you know another family who are in a similar situation, then you could nanny share, which reduces your costs. Also there is the option of childcare voucher scheme which some companies offer to employers. This will help offset your childcare costs when employing a nanny. Paperwork – Essentially you would become the nanny's employer, which means it's your responsibility to sort out their salary, tax and National Insurance. Most families use an accountant or a nanny payroll agency to take care of this.
What to look for in a nanny? Most families choose a nanny agency to help them find a suitable candidate. Agencies take away the stress of finding a nanny. They have interviewed the candidates, do all the relevant checks and thoroughly vet them. They have a large database of nannies for any given area, so you know you are getting the best possible CVs to view for your role. Nannies are also loyal to agencies, so tend to go back to the same agency that found them a role, which means many have a full employment record for the nanny.
TinyTalk Wins Top Award The prestigious Gentle Parenting Awards 2016, showcasing the very best ‘fresh, modern and ethical’ products and services for young families, has found that TinyTalk classes are recognised as the most popular activity for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers across the UK. Even before children are able to speak (around the age of 12-18

TinyTalk introduces them to language, gives them a huge boost in confidence, minimises misunderstandings and frustrations and helps them to start making attempts at speech. Time for Mums Quick Fitness HIIT Think you haven’t got time to squeeze some exercise into your day? Do you spend 30mins on your phone, or how about 30mins popping to the shops? If you fit that in, then you can make some time for your body too. Curves gym – in Redhill and Leatherhead is a fitness solution for busy ladies, with proven results. Don’t take our word for it, ask long-term member Helen Peters. "I knew I was overweight when I joined Curves, but I was sort of OK with it, as I had no health problems. I was in denial, and would do the weigh and measures with my eyes closed on the scales!. The first time I visited Curves I thought ‘is this it? Only one room?’ But that's the beauty of it. HIIT is all the rage now - but back then I'd hardly heard of it, so a short sharp workout felt strange at first. The coaches were friendly and welcoming and made me feel at home. When I started I thought that now I was 'going to the gym' 3 times a week it would be the magic potion, the weight would come off. But that didn't happen straight away. Eventually I started the Curves Weight Management Plan. The online resources make it so easy to input your diet and it prints out a shopping list and menu plan for you. There’s no opening the fridge door and wondering what’s for dinner, it’s all written down for me. I didn’t ever envisage what I would achieve, never in a million years. My first weight loss target was 11-stone, and that felt a long way off - but I was pushing a size 24. Every milestone has slipped by, and now I'm under 10-stone and can shop where I like.
I love that Curves is a small gym - physically that is. Working out on the circuit you can interact with other members and it's not 'faceless' like some gyms. I love that I see the same people working out at specific times, after work, after dropping the kids off at school, however it fits in. I like that it's 30 minutes, easy to fit in, but all your muscle groups have had a good workout. I love that I can feel shattered when I walk in, but feel more energised when I walk out. That doesn't seem logical but it's right!
Helen Peters
For anybody thinking of joining Curves, I’d say ‘go for it’! I can't say that it's going to be your magic potion, you only get out of things what you put into them, but it'll provide you with the support and encouragement you need to make it work." Helen Peters is doing the half Ironman in September!

Time for Mums Get Set Cleanse By Holly Jones
We All Need A Mental Massage
The average UK woman (16-82 yrs) spends £126 a month on beauty! As a Stylist with MyShowcase it’s my mission to offer individual solutions that help my clients make their investment in beauty products as impactful as possible.
Ever heard of Shirodhara? No, me neither until recently, but I can guarantee you’ll want some after reading this… Shirodhara treatment is the rhythmical pouring of warm oil over the forehead and through the hair.
It's extremely important to cleanse your skin in the daytime to prevent excess oil production, and at night it’s crucial for letting anti-ageing ingredients work and preventing skin dehydration. We're all busy ladies (as mum to 2 boys under 5 I understand!) but just 3 minutes twice a day with the right product will produce results. It also means moisturisers, serums and foundations will be more effective and last longer.
This treatment is super relaxing and there’s lots of research to show it’s really beneficial for many conditions, from stress and anxiety to migraines and sleep problems. It’s no surprise that Shirodhara is commonly known as a ‘mental massage’.
Cleansing removes the daily build-up of bacteria, oil and make-up, as well as helping the skin to replenish and repair. It's vital to find a cleanser that suits your skin’s needs, whether that's a soap, gel, balm or oil.
Cleansing Top Tips: Double cleanse once a day, your cleanser is able to penetrate deeper and work more effectively resulting in beautiful, clearer looking and healthy skin. Apply cleanser properly - massage it on in upwards circular

This lovely treatment is offered in Reigate by well-known acupuncturist Samantha Hamilton Stent. You may be wondering what oil pouring has got to do with acupuncture and needles, but Samantha explains that the pouring of oil over the forehead and head gently stimulates acupressure points that powerfully relax and still the mind. Samantha says “lots of busy, overwrought mums come for Shirodhara and it has an immediate and lasting effect in terms of stress relief and relaxation. Treatment is combined with gentle Tui-Na massage to help restore and rebalance the whole body. One lady commented recently that it was the most blissful treatment she had ever had. This sort of feedback is really common and it’s very rewarding to be able to offer such an immediately effective treatment”. For more information see samanthahamiltonstent.com/shirodhara
A balm cleanser is a double-whammy product - moisturising
whilst cleansing making it great for all skin types (except oily). Aurelia Miracle Cleanser is luxurious and lifts off all impurities including makeup.
Got combination or oily skin that is prone to breakouts? I'd recommend a GEL CLEANSER, such as Clarity from S5, as the formula will dissolve any oil build up.
Orba Goat’s Milk Cleanser For dry or flaky skin I’d recommend Orba Goat’s MILK CLEANSER - a rich intensive cleanser. Good when out and about with kids and exposed to the elements.
Curves 30-minute workout makes me feel stronger every day
Madara Micellar Water - perfect as an all in one, no-rinse, wipeoff cleanser. It tackles eye make-up as well as moisturises and calms. So step away from the soap and water and why not try giving your skin the TLC it really deserves? For more info visit myshowcase.com/ stylist/holly_jones. Father’s Day
Father’s Day Days Out
I always think that Dad’s tend to get a bit of a rough deal on Father’s Day. There’s always a big fuss about Mother’s Day – loads of cards, flowers, chocolates and scented candles – but what do you buy for Dad on the special day to celebrate the male heroes in our lives?
For Dare-Devil Dads Go Ape in Tilgate Park!
For Transport Enthusiasts
Hever Castle
Visit the recently reopened Gatwick Aviation Museum in Charlwood and see the collection of ‘golden era’ British aircraft from WWII to the 1970’s. Open Fri-Sundays.
Swing, climb and zip your way through an hour-long treetop adventure, then visit the park’s nature centre or bike around the lake. From £18-£33.
Gatwick Aviation Museum
Miniature Steam Railway
on June 19th
Smith & Western A firm fave with my rabble, Smith & Western’s olde American restaurants in Boxhill, Horsham, Lingfield and Tilgate Park are an assault on the senses. Packed with Wild West memorabilia (cow hides, saddles, wagon wheels – you name it!) and with a great kids menu – they’re noisy enough for even the busiest families.
For Fit Dads Pilates For Men By Rob Slape
If you’re into life in the fast lane, Hever Castle is playing host to a fleet of Super Cars on June 19th. Check out the track simulator or get your photo taken in your dream Ferrari.
Or (this will have to wait until the weekend after Father’s Day) – visit the Surrey Society of Model Engineers’ track at Mill Lane, Leatherhead. Enjoy a ride on steam and electric miniature trains around the 320m track. June 26th is also the fire station’s open day, so a double whammy!
Dad’s Go Free!
Godstone Farm Enjoy free entry for Dad when entering with a full paying child on Father’s Day. Enjoy tractor rides, animal encounters and the fab top playground (complete with toboggan slope!).
For Foodie Dads
Blacks Burgers Grab a burger at the fab Blacks Burgers in the Let’s Race Centre in Horley. Run by father and son team Vas and Philip, this independent restaurant offers no less than 13 styles of burgers and home made ice cream.
Leith Hill Place It’s garden games
day at this lovely National Trust house. Enjoy some competitive coits or a spot of crochet on the lawn.
Fisher’s Farm Sample a pint of real ale in the Saddle Rooms Restaurant or hot foot it up the climbing wall. Race a tractor and meet the farm’s animals.
Painshill Spend the day in these beautiful 18th century landscaped gardens. Discover follies and lakes for free (when entering with a paying child).

Men are more than ever aware that we need to take care of ourselves, and the arrival of a new addition to the family often prompts us to try to stay active, flexible and healthy. With core exercises and functional training techniques becoming increasingly integrated into modern exercise programmes, sports coaching and fitness training, it’s not surprising to see more men turning to Pilates to help us fulfil our goals. Pilates exercises focus on proper sequences of muscle use, core strength and flexibility, bringing balance to the body and helping improve posture by strengthening muscles, including those that stabilise the spine, therefore helping reduce back and joint pain through improved postural alignment. Regular exercise or participation in sports have health benefits, but like our work habits, these sports often involve repetitive movement patterns and can be one-side dominant such as tennis or golf, or involve movements in predominantly one place, such as with running or triathlon. Our bodies get used to the demands we place on them, compensating or anticipating movements. By working the stabilising muscles of the joints, Pilates exercises improve joint stabilisation and increase range of movement, leading to better movement patterns. This helps to keep us agile, aiding injury prevention (pre-hab rather than re-hab) and assists us to develop a kinaesthetic awareness of our body and where it is in space. PARTIES DIRECTORY If your child has a birthday during the next 6 months, chances are you’re already planning ahead and perhaps have booked your venue or entertainer. If not, then the next 4 pages are packed with useful info for creating a special day. From caterers to entertainers, pottery parties to rollerskating – I hope you’ll find something to suit everyone. BUT if you’re feeling imaginative, below are a few ideas for themes and games for DIY parties.
Tandridge Trust
Five party themes for DIY celebrations By Sally J. Hall
The Superhero Party Invitations On Superhero coloured invitations, write: “Dear SuperZac, please come to my Superhero party.”
Wear Make simple masks for each child and a badge with their name and super power. You can also make capes from plastic tablecloths. Play Create a super hero obstacle course
from ropes, pop-up tunnels, boxes and cushions, then have a quiz about superhero powers.
Eat Add cake toppers with “Boom!” “Pow!” and “Zap!” on them to cupcakes.
The Tea Party Invitations Make invitations
festooned with flowers from wrapping paper and doilies.
Wear Make accessories such as
fascinators or hats and bow ties.
Play This theme really suits all those old-
fashioned party games like Pass the Parcel and Musical Chairs.
Eat Tea can be a traditional one with
little sandwiches and dainty cakes. Look for cardboard tiered cake stands and use pretty cloths and bunting.
The Jungle Party Invitations Make animal themed invitations; these can be as simple or artistic as you like.
wear jodhpurs and boots and all the kids can be clowns with some face paint.
Play Buy modelling balloons and then play some tumbling games. Eat Make popcorn, have hotdogs and
burgers, and don’t forget the ketchup and mild mustard.
The Disney Party
Wear Come as your favourite animal or get your guests to bring an animal toy.
Invitations Use stickers of Disney
Play Have a Safari game in the garden where you hide pictures of animals which the kids have to spot, then play Sleeping Lions.
Wear Offer accessories such as paper crowns and a sash made from coloured paper. Old net curtains make good veils.
Eat Create a Bush Tucker Trial with the use of jungle themed plates and cups.
The Circus Party Invitations Create a big, red Clown’s shoe or circus ticket as the invitation.
Wear Dress as circus folk; ballet
costumes double as acrobats, riders can
characters and glitter.
Play Create a Disney piñata by covering a balloon with papier maché and turn it into a Mickey Mouse head. Eat Serve drinks in plastic goblets
for a castle theme and make cucumber sandwiches for Princes and Princesses. Sally J. Hall is a writer and editor. She is author of Eco Baby and contributing author to Watch My Baby Grow (Dorling Kindersley).
What’s in the Bag? By Claire Muffett-Reece
Favour ideas for the above party themes (because we all know mums throw away all that plastic rubbish when their little one’s not looking…!).
Make Your Own Superhero Mask Kit £2.45. Not On The
High Street . This crafty role play creation features cut outs, jewel embellishments, glue dots and elastic to design their very own super-hero mask.
Catch A Bubble
£4.95 Prezzybox. After blowing, simply wait a few seconds for these clever bubbles to set, before party guests can catch and stack them as high as they like!
®
Animal Hand Temporary Tattoos £4.95,
Prezzybox. Sold as a box of eight, these simple to apply creations include instructions for making a number of animal characters.
Quote FAMILIES for 10% Off
08450 504 509
Disney Frozen Cupcake Kit
£1.46, Morrisons. Give each guest their own cupcake making kit to take home rather than splashing out hundreds (!) of pounds on an Elsa impersonator.
Super Hatching Dinosaur Egg £3.95, Dotcom Gift Shop.
Now party guests can pretend to be a paleontologist with this neat idea, which sees a dinosaur egg ‘hatch’ after 72 hours in water.

Nature Notes Education Here’s a challenge: This June, can you do something wild every day for 30 days? Spending time in nature makes us happier and healthier. Whether you smell a wildflower, listen to birdsong or taste wild blackberries, nature enhances all of our senses. That’s why Surrey Wildlife Trust is asking you to enjoy 30 Days Wild and do something wild every day this June. Last year thousands of people from all over the country joined in. Adults danced in the rain, children made wild works of art and families went stargazing or put down their technology for a whole day to tune into nature. This year, the Wildlife Trusts want to inspire people to carry out 1 million Random Acts of Wildness: little ways to connect with, experience and take action for nature. Here are a few ideas… • • • •
Go on a wildlife safari – how many types of wildlife can you spot on the walk to school? Take off your shoes and feel the grass beneath your toes Inhale a wild scent – a flower, plant or leaf Build a hedgehog highway by cutting a hole at the bottom of your garden fence
To sign up for your free 30 Days Wild pack, visit wildlifetrusts. org/30DaysWild to receive a beautiful badge and funky stickers, practical hints and tips on finding your wild life and your Random Acts of Wildness cards (bitesize bits of wild inspiration). There are special packs for schools too, so kids can go wild at school – so tell your class teacher! surreywildlifetrust.org

Hawthorns Go Green The future is not just bright for The Hawthorns - it’s green! Environmentally friendly pupils at the Bletchingley school have secured their third coveted EcoSchools Green Flag Award, making it officially one of the most sustainable schools in the country. The Green Flag assessor said, “The pupils and staff of The Hawthorns School are clearly committed to making sustainability an integral part of school life. Independent school for girls aged 3-11yrs, Bramley, in Walton-on-the-Hill, has secured the highest possible rating in its recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection. Reflecting the academic, moral, cultural and social development of the pupils, the inspectors gave ‘excellent’ ratings across the board. involvement in outdoor learning and environmental education.” Pupils and staff have been working hard to transform their school’s daily routine into one that benefits the environment, saves money and improves the school’s surroundings.
Record School Year It might not feel like it – but 82.4% of Surrey children were offered their first choice primary school this year. This means 4 out of 5 children will be starting their school of choice this September. Applications were up by 279, to a record 13,827 – enough to fill a new one-form primary school. Surrey County Council has stated that they need to find a further 110,000 places over the next 5 years across primary and secondary schools in the county.

Dunottar Record Breakers Pupils at Dunottar School in Reigate completed a number of recordbreaking challenges as part of Sports Relief recently. 12 pupils beat the individual marathon world record, held by Dennis Kimetto, by completing the circuit as a continuous relay in sprints of 25 metres in 2:0:20 – beating the record by 1.37mins! 11 pupils collectively climbed the height of Mount Kilimanjaro by walking from the bottom of Dunottar’s notorious bottom pitch to the school 250 times. Others stepped, cycled and swan to success and raised over £1.5k for charity.
Reigate Parish Expansion Reigate Parish Church School, a two form infant school, is expanding as from September 2016 to become a two form primary school. There will be 60 Year 3 places which could be taken by children currently at the school; offered to children on the school’s Year 3 waiting list; or offered by Surrey Admissions and Transport to children in the area.

Networking Mummies Profile: Wendy Ager Founder of Get Better Coaching Tell us a bit about your background:
I left ‘the day job’ in 2007 on maternity leave, pregnant with my first child and was made redundant. Though I didn’t get a payout, this was good in the end, as I had already decided I wanted to leave the corporate world and work for myself. Get Better Coaching went live in 2010, initially offering careers coaching due to my previous HR and recruitment background. However, it quickly became ap-parent that everyone who asked for my help wanted to do the same as me and leave their job to set up their own business. This was a problem then, as I was a newbie at this myself, and coaching means helping the person find their own way. What these people really need is advice and mentoring.
What do you do now?
I quickly had to learn a lot about business to run my own and help others, and found I really enjoying learning about marketing and put-ting it into practice. Now I mainly work with people who want to grow their business, often working on
planning, systems and on increasing or improving their marketing.
What motivated you to become self-employed?
Having my family and being in control of my work time, the reward of helping others and making a difference without having to answer to anyone else. I suppose it’s about having control.
Why did you join Networking Mummies? To get out and meet other
people, as I work mainly from home, it can be quite isolating. To meet people in a similar situation, to help spread the word about, and for, small businesses locally and increase awareness of my own work and business.
How does it help local working parents? Women in business, I have
found over the years, are extremely supportive. I find the self-employed especially friendly and we understand the limitations and frustrations of working for your-self. It also gives us somewhere we can celebrate our successes too.
Want to work for Families?
Advice for parents considering starting their own business:
Look for free resources like workshops, groups and courses to get your facts and figures straight before you launch into something completely unknown. I used many re-sources from Surrey to Croydon when I first started, and I’ve put what I do and did up as a FREE ADVICE page on my website GetBetterCoaching.co.uk For more info about Networking Mummies, please visit networkingmummies.com Contact Wendy at GetBetterCoaching.co.uk
