news & views Baby Café Baby Café Beckenham opened its doors for the first time on Monday 16 February to welcome new and expectant mums and their families. Being half term week, several older siblings accompanied the newborns and played happily with the toys while mums enjoyed fresh coffee, tea, soft drinks and a selection of home baking including scones, jam and cream. This free drop in breastfeeding support group is one of a nationwide group of Baby Cafes set up to offer breastfeeding information and support in a relaxed, friendly environment. The weekly sessions are facilitated by a qualified Breastfeeding counsellor and volunteers help with refreshments and welcoming the mothers and their families. Baby Café Beckenham is open on Mondays 1 – 3pm at Neighbourhood Church, Cromwell Road, Beckenham BR3 4LW. Flavours include rhubarb and ginger crumble, raspberry pavlova, white chocolate and blueberry. Hopper’s Cream and Ice Bar takes on a retro 1950’s American diner look, with chrome, mirrors and chequered patterns, appealing to adults and children alike. Funky Monkey Keyboard classes Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes are opening their two new centres from Monday 11th in Dartford (Mondays from 4.15pm) and Tunbridge Wells (Thursdays from 4pm). Pilates has received so much good press and I have many success stories, like Gerard’s! “I have been coming to Ismini’s Pilates classes for just over a year now. Last January, I was booked in for an operation for disc fusion in the lower lumber spine having suffered a prolapsed disc (L5/S1) seven years earlier. In recent years I was really struggling with stiffness in my lower back and found myself reliant on a Chiropractor in order to loosen me up. I was worried about the operation as it was seen as a last resort so I met with Ismini, after viewing her website. After a one to one assessment session we agreed it was best for me to delay the operation in order to give Pilates a go. As I am feeling the benefit of the classes I have decided against the operation. Pilates isn’t a quick fix but over time it has certainly helped me develop my core strength and improve my flexibilty. I attend Ismini’s Healthy Back class which helps me activate different muscles that aren’t being used so they can share the ‘workload’ so to speak. Ismini is very knowledgeable and takes a keen interest in each student’s progression. We can now both see the improvements the classes have made with my flexibility”.

St Christopher’s Fun Walk

By signing up for this year’s St Christopher’s Fun Walk you’ll be able to help raise essential funds for the south London hospice.
