Irresponsible parking is unfortunately an all too familiar problem for many schools throughout Scotland. Parking on ‘School Keep Clear’ signs and pavements, blocking driveways and large volumes of cars can cause a great deal of frustration and safety risks for our school community. ‘Park Smart’ is a Falkirk Council initiative that encourages drivers accessing schools to park ‘smarter’. There are a number of things drivers can do to help make the streets around our schools a more pleasant and safer experience for everyone.

There are lots of places to drop in to get involved in crafting with your kids. They can learn skills such as painting, gluing, cutting out and sticking and of course the art of adding glitter! Check out your local library for craft sessions and check out Howie’s Kids Club for creative events.

Football and Rugby

Children can learn how to kick and control the ball, use gross motor skills and understand teamwork. Rugby Tots is always gentle and does not involve contact and the skills and size of the pitches are suited to the kids’ ages. Swimming

Learning to swim is a great and important life skill and it seems that the younger you start, the less likely it is that your child will be nervous in water. Teaching your child to gain confidence in the water is a lifelong skill. Check out Turtle Tots and Swimvibe.

Children from bi-lingual families seem to cope well with two languages from a very early age. Even if you and your partner both speak English, you may want your child to learn a second language from an early age to stand them in good stead for their later education. As a parent you can enroll in classes at Italian for All.

Martial Arts

Martial arts can suit all the family from Tae Kwando to Ladies only kick boxing. Classes will teach discipline, concentration and strength. TKD Tigers is a specific programme for younger children and can also help with confidence and team working skills.

Cycling

New classes in Dunblane and Stirling

Cycling is a skill that all the family can enjoy. Check out Stirling Cycle training for that extra help to help children (and adults) be more confident at cycling in traffic.

Nature and Wildlife

What a great way to help your children to learn about their natural environment by looking at classes such as Woodcraft Folk or sessions at Jupiter Wildlife centre.

Extra tuition

If your child is struggling at school or you feel they need a bit of extra support then check out Kip McGrath. If your child has dyslexia then Cellfield provide a programme that helps to manage their dyslexia and boost confidence.

Multi Sports

Indoor gym activities are good for rainy days and help with flexibility and strength. Look for classes that show kids how to roll, jump and use gym equipment in a safe and controlled environment. It is also good for getting to places like Glasgow quickly as it is near the motorway but luckily we can’t hear it. Favourite park Kings Park in Stirling as there is a great play section for the kids. There are also wide open spaces to run around in and have loads of fun. The play park has a multitude of things to do and is always sure to please those who play in it! Favourite children’s club/class My daughter attends the Barclay Ballet School in Linlithgow and she absolutely loves it. She always looks forward to her Saturday morning ballet class.

Favourite day out Blairdrummond Safari Park as there is so much to do and see. We like to go there and drive around the park before going on a boat ride to see the monkeys. Favourite child friendly restaurant The Torbrex Inn is where we like to go and it is very child friendly too. My daughter likes going there because she gets to colour in and her dad likes going there because of the real ales! Favourite night out Going to the Cinema to see a great film followed by something to eat at Allan Water Café. This is my daughters favourite place to

eat and she always loves to have the fish and chips. Proudest eco-friendly moment Buying my new Ford Fiesta which is so eco friendly that it doesn’t require a tax disc! I thought someone was playing a joke on me when I got it but after a quick google, it turned out to be true. Best planet saving tip Walk more, drive less! No parent should be without Wet wipes! They have a multitude of uses from runny noses to food spilt down tops so we always have them on us when we are out and about. Parenting pet hates Children wiping their nose on their sleeves! Their clothes then have to go straight into the washing machine!

Favourite family holiday spot Santorini in the Greek Isles. It has the most beautiful views and sunsets every night that are so spectacular they are supposed to be the best in the world. I agree with that! Most loved children’s book Harry Potter by J K Rowling. Great books! You end up getting caught up in Harry’s world and this makes it difficult to put the book down.
