WHICH COVeR dID yOU GET?

This prospectus features one of four different cover designs, each showcasing work by Falmouth University students. Here’s a round-up of our full set of cover stars…

Illustration BA(Hons) student Deborah Ewuosho used a limited colour palette with a strong emphasis on tone for her take on a cover for Isaac Dunbar’s EP Beep Beep Repeat. The design was created digitally and brought to life through Risograph printing, a traditional technique that adds depth and texture to the artwork. @debillustrates

Some of the letters on our cover and throughout this prospectus have been created by our Graphic Design BA students as part of Alphabet Falmouth, a workshop exploring place, identity and typography. Drawing on sources from around the town, students collaboratively designed a custom typeface representing the very fabric of Falmouth.

Inspired by the fluid imagination of childhood, Nicole Lin’s project Waves of Wonder celebrates the mystical qualities of water, rekindling a sense of enchantment with nature. The Costume Design for Film & Television BA(Hons) student’s character emerges from the sea, glowing with bioluminescence, to embody a sensory connection to emotion.

The chaotic ‘boomer shooter’ BRINE, set in Falmouth’s harbour streets, reimagines our University town with a cast of slippery sea creatures. The six Games Academy students behind the game secured £25,000 in the Tranzfuser 2025 graduate competition to continue its development. Find out more at: tinyurl.com/29566ne6

We deliver courses on our well-equipped campuses and also online, so you can access our expertise wherever you are.

It’s an exciting time to join us. We’re launching a £1.7 million design and manufacturing studio, we’ve expanded our research programme and we’ve introduced innovative new courses shaped by industry needs. We were also proud to be the first specialist creative arts institution to achieve the University Mental Health Charter Award, reflecting our commitment to student wellbeing.

In a fast-moving world where artificial intelligence is reshaping our lives, we see limitless potential in the relationship between creativity and technology – each driving the other into new territories. As a student here, you’ll have the freedom to explore bold new possibilities while staying grounded in the teamwork, critical thinking and communication that bring ideas to life.

Join us at Falmouth and unlock your creative future. We can’t wait to welcome you.

WHY FALMOUTH?

A close-knit community. Astoundingly creative – and committed to providing you with the perfect learning environment to excel in your chosen discipline.

You’ll find an ocean of opportunity at Falmouth University. There are endless good reasons to study a degree here, but we’ve listed 25 on the following pages for starters.

01. WHERE CREATIVITY MEETS tEChNOlOGY

When worlds collide, extraordinary things happen. We don’t see creativity and technology as opposing disciplines; they’re complementary, and their fusion ignites ideas and sets exciting trends.

As an artist, we’ll empower you to use technology to your advantage.

If you’re a coder or entrepreneur, you’ll discover how a creative mindset can transform problem solving.

You’ll explore different tools, virtual spaces and immersive experiences that were once unimaginable. We set no boundaries, because when lines blur, brilliant ideas emerge.

It was more than 120 years ago that students first put pencil and brush to paper in the original Falmouth School of Art. The creative spark nurtured in 1902 is now ablaze in a thriving university, spread across two campuses, where the artists, wordsmiths, gamers and designers of tomorrow are learning to make their mark. While our students are as likely

What will our creative future look like?

We know that the landscape is everchanging, but none of us can predict where technology might take us next. Artificial intelligence (AI) looks set to become our new reality as a creative tool, yet exactly how its application might shape our output and influence our way of working remains uncharted territory.

At Falmouth, we’re exploring the potential of emerging technologies and incorporating innovative tools and techniques across our creative disciplines, from AI to immersive technology and the use of big data. We’ll support you to embrace these new frontiers. With the confidence to question and adapt, you’ll be empowered to harness technology in a beneficial way – fully prepared to navigate uncertainties and seize opportunities in the exciting times ahead.

04. WE wORsHIp DAWN

Affectionately referred to as the Queen of Falmouth University, novelist and comedian Dawn French was installed as our Chancellor in 2015. She has since attended every graduation ceremony to personally congratulate each student, giving out not just degree scrolls but chocolate coins (Dawn’s doubloons) and her very own words of wisdom.

“LOOK AT WHO’S WEARING THE CROWN AND ASK YOURSELF, WHO’S THE BOSS?”
Dawn French, Chancellor

WE LIVE LIFE

On tHe EdGE

Our spectacular coastal location has been described as a creative departure point from which you can literally and metaphorically fly – a place to spread your wings, take off and soar. This extraordinary setting has inspired adventurers, explorers and pioneers over the centuries. Cornwall is an invigorating place to study and has long been a muse to artists with its natural beauty and quality of light. Where better than Falmouth to take a leap into your creative future?

“THE FALMOUTH CAMPUS ISN’T LOFTY OR INTIMIDATING, BUT LAID BACK AND BEAUTIFUL. A PLACE WHERE LECTURERS CALL YOU BY YOUR NAME AND HAVE A LITTLE CHAT WHEN PASSING BY.”

06. CAMPUSES

Nestled in lush, leafy, sub-tropical gardens, Falmouth Campus is truly one of a kind. Artists and designers are drawn to its magical setting, which affords a level of creative and intellectual space not easily found in big, bustling metropolitan universities. Airy studios and workshops, a dedicated writers’ room and a recording studio provide the perfect context to think clearly and independently. It’s a campus that crackles with creative energy.

Penryn Campus is a contemporary creative hub, home to multimillion-pound facilities for photography, gaming, business, design, film, fashion and performing arts. This is a truly inspiring environment, equipped with new and emerging technology and alive with ideas. You’ll also find a sports centre and The Stannary – the beating heart of campus social life and a base for everything from fun film events to drag bingo and open mic nights.

Just 10 minutes apart by bus, our campuses are within easy reach of the town and some of the region’s best beaches. Both feature cutting-edge resources and services, including libraries and archives, learning zones and quiet study areas, IT suites, shops and cafes.

We’re proud of our campuses but continue to invest in our facilities. Our new £1.7 million design and manufacturing studio is the latest upgrade we’re excited to unveil in 2026.

Our gaming scene is second to none. As a games student, you’ll learn in our Games Academy – one of the largest dedicated games development studio spaces of any UK university and ranked in the top 15 schools in the world for game design in the Princeton Review 2025. And it doesn’t stop there. Falmouth University’s epic annual Games Expo brings industry giants, expert staff and games fans together to network and celebrate, as students showcase their creations and compete for awards – like a real industry trade show. Level up at our Global Games Jam, play the next generation of games at our regular crits and find your place in our inclusive gaming community.

08. WE STAND UnItEd

You can’t miss the Students’ Union (SU) office at our Penryn Campus – just look for the artwork outside. It’s where you’ll find your SU presidents, whose mission is to make sure your time as a student here is as productive and enjoyable as possible. As an SU member you can stand as a Rep, help fundraise, become politically active through campaigning work or join some of the 120 or so clubs and societies on offer. The SU team (also at Falmouth Campus) organises social events and offers support in all areas of student life.

Above: Illustration BA(Hons) graduate Abby Mundell won a paid student commission to paint a giant SU mural, a task that took 79 painstaking hours to complete.

WE CoLlAbORaTe 10.

The real magic is in the mix: fashion and film students sharing ideas, game developers working with creative writers to craft narratives, entrepreneurs finding inspiration in performance... Falmouth’s courses and facilities are designed to promote collaborative learning. You’ll have the opportunity to conceive and complete projects not just with other students but with industry professionals, growing your portfolio and graduating as a multiskilled and networked practitioner.

More than 30 students from Falmouth University’s School of Film & Television joined the crew of Rose of Nevada, the forthcoming feature film from BAFTAwinning writer/director Mark Jenkin. Starring BAFTA nominees George MacKay and Callum Turner, this “hauntingly beautiful, time-bending sea-fishing tale” was shot entirely in Cornwall – offering students a unique opportunity.

The making of the film, which premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2025, drew upon a University-wide pool of talent. This industry-style approach is the key to achieving creative goals, of any size. Need someone to design your brand identity, act in your play, promote your gig or simply bring a fresh perspective? You’ll find them here.

“WORKING AS A RUNNER AND IN POST PRODUCTION ON ROSE OF NEVADA WAS INCREDIBLE. SEEING MARK DIRECT WAS INSPIRING.”

A StAgE 11. OUR WORLD IS

Creative expression is a way of life at Falmouth University’s arts centre, AMATA, a professional performance venue right here on campus. This incredible space hosts comedy acts and drama, international music and dance, and it’s where you can master your art by joining a student production, performing a gig in our free live sessions or working in direction, lighting or sound.

If you dream of putting your work ‘out there’, in the spotlight, we’ll provide a supportive learning environment and the platform to launch your career.

14. WE INSPIRE CuRiOsItY

Sharing your vision invites others to view the world through your creative lens. Taking part in exhibitions, competitions and shows while at university will give your work a voice. As you grow, we’ll help you refine, curate and present your ideas – and guide you as you navigate feedback.

“Putting work out there as a student felt daunting but exciting,” recalls Anna Calleja, who has exhibited internationally in London, Paris, Berlin and New York since graduating from our Fine Art BA(Hons) in 2020. “Our tutors and course leaders offered thoughtful, constructive feedback. It felt safe to take risks, even when the work wasn’t finished or fully resolved, and the experience demystified what it means to engage with an audience beyond the studio.”

“WE CONTINUE TO CHAMPION THE MAGIC OF CREATIVITY –THE SPARK OF IMAGINATION THAT TECHNOLOGY CAN NEVER TRULY CAPTURE.”
Emma Hunt, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive

15. WE LEAD BY eXAmPlE

Alongside lending their expertise to budding creatives, Falmouth University’s academic staff are out there leading the way – exploring the polar regions, writing Booker Prize longlisted novels, collecting Olivier Awards for directing comedy plays and breaking new ground in the world of games.

Our performance lecturers are directing on stage and our costume experts commentate on current trends. We can even count a BAFTA award-winning filmmaker among our ranks. By practising their craft, they’re able to share real-world experiences and the latest industry insights.

16. WE OwN OUR sPaCe

Exploring, experimenting… it’s all part of the creative process. At Falmouth you can find your space and develop your style, wherever your inspiration takes you. We’d encourage you to break the creative rules, except there are none.

For his final-year project, Commercial Photography BA(Hons) student Tom Beaumont drew inspiration from the history of space travel and the role of the spacesuit in protecting astronauts from the unknown. To bring his ideas to life, Tom sourced costumes from the University’s styling closet and collaborated with fellow students as models. His visual fashion story, The Evolution of Spacesuits, showcased in London and won the inaugural Truman Brewery Prize.

Studying at university can be an enriching and rewarding experience that sets you on the path to career success. But it’s not all about the destination. We want you to enjoy the journey every bit as much and that means helping you to feel confident with your studies, comfortable in your surroundings and good about life in general. We know that student life can be fun but full-on, so we’re set up to support you along the way.

PEER SUPPORT

You’ll feel part of the team before you even start. We’ll put you in touch with others through an online group that’s relevant to your course. We’ll also assign you a Student Mentor – a second or third year who knows the ropes and can help you settle in.

EVERYDAY SUPPORT

Our handy central Student Helpdesk has a base on both campuses and can be contacted online and by phone. You’ll also find answers at your fingertips in the Falmouth University app, where you can access campus maps, timetables, student news and email, along with resources and tools to keep your studies and wellbeing on track. The door is open every day at the Students’ Union and at our on-campus chaplaincies, which provide a welcoming space for students from every faith or none.

SPECIALIST SUPPORT

Our Wellbeing team is here to support you with anything affecting your studies or personal life. We offer wellbeing appointments and can arrange expert consultation and advice for more complex issues, in collaboration with other teams or external services. STUDY SUPPORT

We’re equipped to help you succeed, whatever your requirements. Our dedicated Academic Skills team can help you study more effectively. Our Accessibility Advisors can provide advice and assistance for students with disabilities, longstanding mental or physical health conditions and specific learning differences such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD.

In 2025, we became the first creative arts institution to achieve the University Mental Health Charter Award

SPOTLIGHT ON: DAVID dOrAn

“My time at Falmouth was an intense journey of discovery,” reflects Illustration BA(Hons) graduate David Doran. “I could focus solely on finding my visual language – what suited me and my individual style. I remember a course module about colour and composition; I still think about that now.”

Over more than a decade as a freelance illustrator, David has worked with clients including British Airways, Nissan, Stella Artois and the National Trust. “I started taking commissions as a student, for newspapers including The New York Times and The Daily Telegraph, plus editorial work and book covers,” he says. “This developed naturally into advertising campaigns and projects. I love building worlds and exploring every angle –prints, murals, merchandising – and I’m now using animation to bring scenes to life.”

David’s career highlights include creating a 3x3m² mural for Mobil 1 and Honda, unveiled at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and illustrating the security animation for visitors to the Empire State Building in New York City. Another standout project was designing an icon for every US state for Stella Artois, featured on limited-edition chalices. “Seeing David Beckham and Matt Damon using them in the campaign was a proud moment,” he says. “I’m still based in Falmouth, working globally from my studio. The foundations I built at university remain strong – I’d love another three years there to explore and create.”

IN ALL ASPECTS OF FILMMAKING.

Embracing both tradition and innovation, we champion the future of the moving image through rigorous and inspiring courses that produce award-winning, employable graduates. You’ll be working with cutting-edge equipment in a dynamic, hands-on environment, with support from industry-active lecturers and technicians. Through projects and live briefs, collaboration with students from related courses and opportunities to crew on professional feature films co-produced by Falmouth University’s Sound/Image Cinema Lab, you’ll develop your own voice and produce work that reflects and impacts on the world.

SET FOR SUCCESS

"Falmouth excels at providing on-set opportunities", says Film BA(Hons) student Luca Vasile Berde, recalling his time on Mark Jenkin’s Rose of Nevada (see p16). “I joined the final week of filming as an AD runner, doing everything from fetching coffees and people’s lunches to bringing cast to set. This led to a post-production assistant role, where I watched Mark direct actors for sound performance. It was fascinating to see how his films come to life through considered sound design. No one expects you to know everything, so don’t be afraid to answer those crew calls from the course teams and get on set.”

“I HAD MINIMAL EXPERIENCE WHEN I STARTED AT FALMOUTH, BUT I WAS 100% SHAPED THERE.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: DAISY AlLeN

With a CV that unfolds like a Netflix marathon, it’s clear that Daisy Allen hit the ground running when she entered the industry six years ago. Fresh from Falmouth, she secured a place on the Mark Milsome Foundation’s Foot in the Door scheme, exclusive to CILECT-accredited film and television schools, launching her straight into her first feature film as a camera trainee. From dailies on Bond classic No Time To Die to back-to-back seasons of The Witcher, via Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, Daisy is now operating as an A-camera loader on projects including Wuthering Heights and The Beekeeper 2, due out this year.

“It’s been non-stop,” says Daisy, who graduated from our School of Film & Television in 2019. “I was lucky enough to be nominated for the scheme by my lecturers and then selected by the foundation. I couldn’t believe I was packing my bags and heading to Leavesden Studios before I’d even graduated.”

It was Falmouth’s hands-on approach that first attracted Daisy. “I wanted something practical and not purely theory-driven,” she explains. “Most of the lecturers and technicians were actively working in film and TV, so I knew I was being properly prepared for industry.” Encouraged to explore new roles, she discovered a passion for camera.

“My dream is to become a Steadicam and camera operator, but I’m loving life as an A-camera loader and excited for what’s next.”

His image of King Charles and Donald Trump during the US president’s 2025 UK state visit made the cover of The Guardian – one of many career highlights as a staff photographer for PA Media. “Access to Falmouth’s industry-grade cameras and facilities ensured my skills were up to speed when I graduated," says Jordan, who studied press photography (now Documentary & Editorial Photography BA(Hons)). “The guidance and opportunities I had were invaluable.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: JENNY BrOUgH

“The greatest challenge I’ve faced as a photographer was finding my creative voice,” says Photography BA(Hons) graduate Jenny Brough, whose career in high-end fashion spans two decades. “In an era where content is everywhere, it was difficult to define who I wanted to be and have the confidence to stay true to that vision. I returned to analogue photography and built a small colour darkroom in my garden, where I could shut out the world and focus entirely on printing and experimenting with effects. Colour became my identity.”

Colour now defines Jenny’s bold, contemporary work across photography and film – an approach that has drawn the attention of global brands. “Soon after my first film for LOVE magazine, I was asked to direct a Louis Vuitton campaign, which remains my biggest career highlight,” she says. Today, she splits her time evenly between photography and directing, while also pursuing personal projects and developing an exhibition inspired by her 2024 Paris photography show.

“Working on set, leading and collaborating, is the daily business of a fashion photographer,” she adds. “Falmouth helped me come out of my shell and gave me the confidence to trust myself and my work. It became a home away from home and I loved being surrounded by like-minded creatives from so many disciplines. My advice for new students? Experiment, create and, most of all, enjoy.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: AARON SAnDeRs

“Versatility isn’t just an advantage – it’s a survival skill,” says Aaron Sanders, an underwater cinematographer making his mark as a creative professional. “I’ve realised you have to become a kind of creative Swiss Army knife, able to do it all: underwater video, topside filming, gimbal work, drone operation, long-lens wildlife shoots, storytelling, editing… The same applies to diving, where I’m constantly working to extend my skill set.”

Coming from a family of divers, Aaron was drawn to Falmouth’s Marine & Natural History Photography BA(Hons). “It was a way to tell powerful stories about the natural world, particularly the ocean, using professional gear and learning from people at the top of their field,” he says. “I gained hands-on experience and an understanding of how to shoot to a brief, tell a story visually and develop a sequence. This has translated directly into my work today, and I’m still building on it with every opportunity.

“Seeing my first article published in Oceanographic magazine felt like a milestone,” says Aaron, who graduated in 2022 and is developing his portfolio as a videographer on a liveaboard boat in Indonesia. “I was also named Young Ocean Photographer of the Year 2025 for an image of mating bobtail squid captured during a night dive. These achievements give me a quiet confidence that my work resonates, a validation that helps me put myself forward while staying grounded and realistic.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: ARCHIE mILeS

“I tried to launch nearly ten businesses during my time at Falmouth – and only the last one succeeded,” says Archie Miles, who is now growing his UK-led recruitment agency, Shore Link, into a global enterprise just two years after graduating from our Business & Entrepreneurship BSc(Hons). “That process taught me more than any textbook could. The course gave me the freedom to experiment without fear of failure.”

As a student at Falmouth’s Cornwall Business School, Archie was keen to capitalise on the University’s creative environment. “Being surrounded by filmmakers, designers, photographers and digital creatives taught me how to collaborate across disciplines – skills I use daily,” he says. “Working with students on branding, content and marketing projects showed me the power of visual communication and creative problem solving. The connections I made and the space to test real ventures prepared me for the realities of building and running my own business.”

Archie also spent a year in Australia through Falmouth’s Work Abroad programme, funded by the Turing Scheme. “My experience there at an outsourced recruitment agency was transformative,” he says. “Those foundations became the blueprint for my own business, which recruits highly skilled remote specialists from the Philippines and places them in UK companies. I’m now based in Manila and plan to expand into specialist technical roles, as well as building a strong personal brand to inspire young entrepreneurs.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: PABLO WooLLs-bLAnCO

“It all happens so quickly in the moment,” says Pablo Woolls-Blanco of his big career break, travelling with the Barcelona football club first team to report on a La Liga game. “Everything flies by, but you come home and realise ‘Wow, I’ve just fulfilled a childhood dream.’”

Having honed his skills at grass roots level as a Journalism & Creative Writing BA(Hons) student at Falmouth, reporting on fixtures for local club Mousehole AFC, Pablo secured a BBC placement and later anchored Radio Cornwall’s Saturday sports show. After graduating in 2024, his lifelong passion for Barça opened the door to a steep learning curve: joining the Catalan giants as an English-language reporter. Today, he co-hosts the club’s coverage, commentates on matches and interviews the Spanish champions’ superstars.

“Last season was hectic but unforgettable, filled with incredible memories – winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercup,” says Pablo. “Being part of the live shows and providing match commentary for moments like Jules Kounde’s winner against Madrid in the Cup Final were real highlights. There have been changes and challenges since then but I’ve continued to embrace new opportunities, including participating in and sometimes presenting the Barça Live show we produce for every game. Conducting Marcus Rashford’s first interview after he signed for the club was definitely one of those ‘pinch me’ moments.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: ADITHI jAYArAmAn

Discovering Falmouth University and its Robotics BSc(Hons) degree opened up a world of opportunity for student Adithi Jayaraman, who moved from the city of Chennai in India to pursue her ambitions.

“I always knew I wanted to study robotics, and Falmouth stood out for its hands-on approach,” she says. “I’ve grown to love Cornwall; I’ve tried everything from hiking to kayaking and surfing, and I’ve worked on a range of robotics projects with real-world applications.”

A highlight of her second-year studies was Solaris, a light installation project exploring the fusion of art and robotics. “It was such a fun brief, encouraging us to think outside the box,” she explains. “But building fully fledged robots has been a big learning curve. There’s always something that needs fixing, but it’s a smoother ride with supportive friends.”

For her final-year project, Adithi is helping to create a life-size robotic warthog for research in Uganda, where University of Exeter Zoology PhD student Leela Channer will use it to study interactions between banded mongooses and warthogs.

“Robotics is a vast field and this is just one small application, a specific niche,” says Adithi. “We’ll animate the warthog before our Prosthetic Effects MA students add realistic skin and features. It feels like a real industry brief, bringing together different groups with funding and a clear goal. It’s the definition of our robotics department – teamwork.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: NATHAN BeDFoRd

When Game Art BA(Hons) graduate Nathan Bedford challenged himself to design a robot a day for a month, he never imagined it would set him on the path to a career as a concept artist at a leading game development studio. But his self-initiated project March of the Robots caught the attention of Milky Tea, where Nathan now creates environments and characters for games including Grit and Valor.

Known for his sketches of Norse giants and other fantastical creatures, Nathan’s love of storytelling through art has always been clear to him – something he describes as “a lifelong pursuit”. “I’m constantly drawing, adding to my visual library,” he says. “Inspiration comes not only from the books I read and the games I play, but from the world around me – nature, architecture, even the design of parks and coastal paths. Lately, I’ve focused on evolving my environment art, studying architecture, exploring how engines are built and observing everyday spaces. Still, I keep coming back to characters; my sketchbook is full of people at cafes, pubs and train stations.

“The best part of the course was concept art, but I learned a lot from other disciplines too,” Nathan adds. “The biggest takeaway was understanding how I fit into a game pipeline and what it takes to do that effectively. Those skills still shape my work today.”

SCHOLARSHIP SUCCESS

Winning a £3,000 scholarship from The Hospitality Industry Network has given Interior Architecture BA(Hons) final-year student Hannah Schmidt invaluable industry insight and networking opportunities. Her winning concept transformed an abandoned Hotel Budapest-style building in the Italian Alps into a spa, earning her the top prize. “Putting the presentation together meant a few sleepless nights, but it was completely worth it,” says Hannah. “The judges’ feedback was so positive and my lecturers were incredible, helping me hone my skills and create with an industryready approach. Falmouth has given me everything I need – a creative space and an environment that inspires me.”

“THE COURSE ENCOURAGED ME TO CELEBRATE MY CREATIVE PRACTICE RATHER THAN CONSTANTLY CRITIQUE IT.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: MEG mArDoN

“I think I got lucky,” laughs Meg Mardon, reflecting on her rapid journey from Graphic Design BA(Hons) student to junior designer at Studio Kiln – a Cornwall-based creative practice punching well above its weight. “The course was amazing; I still miss it every day. And stepping into industry didn’t seem scary at all – it just felt natural.”

After impressing Studio Kiln during a student internship, Meg was offered a permanent role within weeks of graduating in 2024. “It’s crazy that I’ve gone straight to working with clients such as Vinted and ITV,” she says. “I grew up watching ITV and use Vinted myself, so being able to play with those brands is incredible. I imagined it would take years to work on big names, but as a junior at Kiln I’ve been given an amazing opportunity."

Meg, who particularly enjoyed working on a recent launch for Berlin-based esports marketing studio Fellowkids, adds: “One of the most valuable lessons I learned at Falmouth was the power of making mistakes. Exploring the ‘bad’ or silly ideas often takes a project further than you’d expect. If you don’t allow yourself to make messy sketches or create ‘ugly’ prototypes, you’ll never improve on that initial idea. So, I’d say enjoy the whole process, even when it feels imperfect – because that’s where the best ideas often come from.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: NIALL wHItE

From Royal Ascot and the West End to London Fashion Week, Niall White’s exquisite hats are turning heads in high society. His blossoming career in millinery is a striking departure from an initial interest in knitwear that led him to Falmouth’s Textile Design BA(Hons) degree.

“I learned so much from the tutors and technicians, who nurtured my desire to explore different creative avenues,” says Niall. “A brief to work with the University’s fashion and textiles archive led me to research costumes from old Hollywood cinema and 1930s cabaret, and that’s when I became fascinated by the headwear of that era. It shows how broad textile design can be – and where it can take you.”

After graduating in 2023, Niall was one of just six selected for the CHANEL and King's Foundation Métiers D’Art Millinery Fellowship, an eight-month residency at Gloucestershire’s Highgrove Estate.

“Producing work to such a high standard was an incredible opportunity to bring my skills to the next level,” says Niall, who has since completed an internship with hatmaker Maison Michel at le19M in Paris and is building a client base from his own East London studio. “I created hats for designers Talia Byre and Patrick McDowell at London Fashion Week, which was an amazing platform for my work and a chance to showcase millinery in a contemporary context.”

SPOTLIGHT ON: BECK wATtS

Within a year of graduating in 2024, Beck Watts was performing at the Bristol Old Vic in This is Not a Garden, a play she co-wrote, and preparing for a professional tour with the Pipeline Theatre production Runt. It’s an exciting start for the Acting BA(Hons) alumna, who has already signed with leading agency BAM.

“I knew that this was a tough industry, but I felt well-prepared at Falmouth,” says Beck. “The course kept me busy and challenged in the best ways and the breadth of opportunities on campus meant I could gain experience across a variety of disciplines – acting in student films, games and theatre projects alongside my studies. Most importantly, I didn’t adopt someone else’s acting style. I was never forced to fit into an impersonal mould and I left feeling confident that I’d developed my own creative method, shaped by effort, support and a wide range of theories and ideas.”

While on the course, Beck secured a theatre-making residency at the Bristol Old Vic, which enabled her to join an eight-person curated company for a year. “Together, we formed the Paper Cow Ensemble, which supported my newlydiscovered drive to create my own work,” she says. “I found myself in a very fortunate position, as this really broadened my creative scope – opening doors to writing, directing, facilitation and dramaturgy.”

Your course materials will be uploaded to the VLE in phases, at regular intervals, giving you plenty of time to plan your workload for any upcoming studies.

Creative collaboration

At Falmouth, we encourage collaboration and the sharing of ideas. This might mean participating in thought-provoking discussions with fellow students or working together on projects to develop your teamworking skills. This is vital in helping you to feel part of your academic community and will give you the chance to explore each other’s creative boundaries.

Supportive tutors and Student Advisors

While you’re studying, you’ll be supported academically by tutors. Your module tutor will offer feedback on your work and will be your first point of contact for any academic queries. They’ll run a regular live webinar, usually in an evening (UK time), which is also recorded for easy access if the timing doesn’t fit your schedule.

The Student Advisor team can support you with all non-academic enquiries. They are contactable via email, phone, WhatsApp and video meetings to help you make the most of your online learning experience and to guide you towards any further support you need.

Our IT team will also be on hand to offer free technical support and advice, to keep you connected while you study.

You’ll learn through a combination of directed and independent study, working within a schedule but with the flexibility to set your own routine. It’s worth bearing in mind the commitment required. The study expectation per week is up to 50 hours for a full-time undergraduate degree and up to 33 hours for a part-time undergraduate degree, dependent upon experience and aptitude.

These courses are designed especially to be studied from home, so you will not have access to our campus facilities. Studying online need not mean studying alone, however, as you’ll be part of a connected and inspirational global student community. Optional face-to-face events, which may be at the University, elsewhere in the UK or overseas, offer a great opportunity to meet other students and tutors and explore course-related topics through additional activities and discussions. Input by guest lecturers will offer a wider professional context for your learning and a deeper insight into a range of creative industries.

“MY ONLINE PEERS MADE THE COURSE TRULY FEEL LIKE A COMMUNITY. THE TUTORS ARE WORKING PROFESSIONALS, SO THEIR ADVICE COMES FROM EXPERIENCE – AND THEY WERE ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP.”

Fees & finance

While studying at university involves making a considerable investment in your future, in both time and money, an undergraduate course or degree can build a solid foundation for your career – boosting your prospects and broadening your horizons.

There are three main costs involved in university life: tuition fees, costs related to your particular course and general living costs. Our Student Finance team is armed with the latest information on finance, fees and bursaries, to make sure that you realise your creative potential by getting all the help you’re entitled to – visit falmouth.ac.uk/student-funding You’ll also find additional course costs outlined on the relevant course pages at falmouth.ac.uk

Tuition fees

We’ll publish tuition fees for the academic year starting in 2027/8 on our website in autumn 2026. You’ll find a full list of fees and what’s included at falmouth.ac.uk. Our fees will vary depending on your status (UK or international), level of study (Honours, Foundation Year, Placement Year, integrated MA or CertHE) and study mode (on campus or online).

UK students: your tuition fee may increase in future years of study subject to the maximum limit set by the UK Government. However, any increase will not exceed 10% of the cost of your whole course.

International students: your tuition fee may increase in future years of study. However, any increase will not exceed 10% of the cost of your whole course.

Bursaries, scholarships and awards

The University offers financial support through its undergraduate bursary programme. Eligibility will depend on an assessment of your household income (which the Student Loans Company will carry out when you apply for a maintenance loan), your chosen course and pathway and, for some bursaries, your personal circumstances.

For details of the Falmouth Bursary and other potential support for care leavers or those with one or more dependants, visit falmouth.ac.uk/study/student-funding/undergraduatebursaries-awards

Scholarships and talent awards are available for students from different countries who meet certain criteria. Find out more at falmouth.ac.uk/study/student-funding/scholarships-forinternational-students

Terms & Conditions

Falmouth University makes every effort to ensure our prospectus and course information is as accurate as possible at the time of printing. This information is subject to change over time and it is important that you check the University's website for the most up-to-date information, for example, but not limited to, changes in tuition fees and course-specific expenses. Any significant changes to a course will be notified to applicants.

Falmouth University will do all that it reasonably can do to provide educational services as described. However, sometimes circumstances beyond our control, such as, but not limited to, external industrial action, key staff absences, government actions, pandemics or enrolment numbers, mean that we cannot do so. In these circumstances, the University will take all reasonable steps to minimise the resultant disruption to those services, for example by making reasonable modifications, but to the full extent that it is possible under the general law, the University excludes liability for any loss and/or damage suffered by any applicant.

Some changes may be made in response to feedback from students or regulators and are intended to improve the experience of students and student outcomes. In unavoidable cases, course discontinuations or major changes will be communicated promptly, and our Student Protection Plan outlines steps to ensure continuity. Some courses may be pending final approval; if approval is not granted, affected students will be notified and supported in finding alternatives.

Falmouth University will adhere to the UK sanctions regime as published by the UK Government and due to its contracts with international partners based in the US, it will comply with the US sanctions regime as necessary. This may impact your ability to study with the University if you are domiciled in a country affected by US embargo.
