On a bluff overlooking a
beach in Colleville-sur-Mer,
France, is a cemetery with
the graves of 9,387 American
soldiers who died in the largest
land invasion in history. These
soldiers paid the ultimate
price to liberate the people of
France and ultimately topple
the wicked Nazi regime in
World War II. Because of the
bravery of these men and
many that came before them,
we enjoy freedoms in our
country that are unequaled in
the world today.
We are blessed to live in
a nation that was founded
on Christian principles,
including the freedom
to practice religion and
openly worship and share
our faith. But with these
freedoms come tremendous
responsibility, not only
to exercise them, but to
participate in the democratic
process to ensure these
freedoms are not lost. As
believers, we know that our
ultimate liberty was bought
on the cross, where our
sinless Savior died to secure
for us an eternal freedom in
Him. Let us thank the Lord
for both our earthly and
eternal freedom.
