As we approach Thanksgiving, which is the gateway to the Christmas season, we enter a period of expectation. Families look forward to reuniting over the holidays, while children expectantly fashion their Christmas lists. We even use tools like Advent wreaths to count down the days to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
For the Christian, all of life is lived in expectation. Yes, we annually celebrate the birth of Christ, just as we annually celebrate His death and resurrection. But, as believers, we are to live in daily expectation of His return. One song traditionally sung at Christmas beautifully captures both the ancient expectation of the first coming of the Messiah and the Christian expectation of His return. As we enter this season, meditate on the words and prepare your heart for Jesus.
