What a truly wonderful day we shared here in Fairways! Our recent Community Yard Sale and Food Pantry Fundraiser was not only a success, it was a reminder of just how special this neighborhood is.
First and foremost a heartfelt thank you goes out to the many volunteers who consistently step up without hesitation. Your time, energy and willingness to help are what make events like this possible. Whether you were setting up cooking, organizing deliveries, or simply lending a hand wherever needed; your efforts did not go unnoticed.
To all of our residents who participated in the yard sale thank you for opening your driveways, sharing your treasures and bringing life to the community. And to those who came out to shop,
support and enjoy the day, we hope you found something special while soaking in the friendly atmosphere.
A special thank you as well to everyone who supported the food pantry. Because of you we are able to continue giving back to our own residents in times of need. That generosity is what truly defines the heart of Fairways. It was a beautiful day in every sense.
Sunshine, laughter, neighbors connecting and a shared purpose that brought us all together. Seeing everyone out gathering, supporting one another and simply enjoying the moment is what makes this community feel like home.
We are grateful for each and every one of you who helped make the day so memorable. Events like this remind us that when we come together there is nothing we can’t accomplish.

FWGA Update
May is here and most of the snowbirds have left for their homes up North. The FWGA will continue to golf every Tuesday morning, but on the first Tuesday of the month, there will be no lunch. A short meeting will follow golf until September when the Snowbirds start returning. We wish everyone a good summer.

I want to take a moment to wish all our Fairways mothers an incredibly Happy Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is a meaningful occasion to recognize and celebrate the love, care, and dedication that mothers and mother figures give every day. It’s a time to pause and express gratitude for the countless ways they support families, shape values, and strengthen our community — often behind the scenes. Whether through guidance, encouragement, or simple acts of kindness, mothers play a vital role in nurturing connections that help both homes and neighborhoods thrive. Don’t forget to sign up for our Mother’s Day Tea on Friday, May 8th.
As we prepare for the upcoming Hurricane Season, the June issue of the Eagle will include important handouts with helpful tips and information to keep our community prepared. In addition, an informative Hurricane Preparedness Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 6th at 1:00 PM in the Masters Clubhouse. Block Captains play a key role in keeping our community connected and informed. They help share valuable information with residents and look out for neighbors on their block — especially those who may need a little extra support, a friendly check in, or a warm smile now and then. WILDLIFE REMINDER
We have recently observed residents interacting with wildlife in our community. Please remember that feeding feral cats, birds, turtles, or — most critically — alligators is harmful to the animals and dangerous for residents. Feeding wildlife is against our community rules and disrupts natural behaviors, making animals dependent on human food sources. If that food source disappears, the animal may suffer or become aggressive in search of food. Wildlife is meant to forage and live as nature intended. Please respect our environment by observing wildlife from a distance and never feeding or antagonizing them. Protecting nature helps keep both our residents and our wildlife safe.

Ready, Set, Blow!
It’s never too early to make preparation for the closely approaching hurricane season. To ensure you have all the latest information, you can attend the Hometown America Hurricane Preparedness Meeting at the Masters on May 6, 1-3 p.m.
“Areas to be covered include before, during and after the hurricane. Personal and property plans will best get you ready if a storm threatens the community,” Johnny Cutsinger, Fairways social co-director, said. Hometown America will host celebrations for both Fairway’s mothers and fathers again this year.
“We did the special recognition days for Moms and Dads last year with lots of positive response,” Hometown America social co-director, Barb Mishloney, said. On Friday, May 8 from 1-3 p.m., the Fairways Mother’s Day celebration will bring the ladies together for an afternoon tea celebrating motherhood. You can register by text to Johnny Cutsinger at 407-680-8249. Then on Thursday, June 18, Hometown America will host a Fathers-only, ninehole golf tournament with a few twists and turns. Dads can register for the tournament starting Monday, May 11 at the Pro Shop. The tournament will be followed by a pizza and beer party celebrating the winners.

Jesus Rose, Now What?

In a world of skeptics and even doubting disciples, Jesus made it unmistakably clear that He has truly risen. Luke 24:3943 says, “He wasn’t a vision, a ghost or a legend. He stood in front of them, spoke with them, showed them His scars, and even ate with them.”
The ladies of FCWC are continuing to move
forward knowing these wonderful truths as we study God’s word. Our evening study is meeting on Thursday, May 7th and 21st, at the Greenbrier at 6:15 pm. Jo Lynn Haussmann hosts our afternoon study in her home on Thursday, May 14th at 3 pm. Her address is 14721 Firestone.
Our Praise and Prayer time is on Saturday, May 9th, at 11 am. We meet at the home of Frank and Reenie Nix. Their address is 1734 Inverary. Come for a great time praising our Lord!
Every other month, the ladies go out to lunch. This month we’re going to the Town
House Restaurant on Tuesday, May 19th, at noon. If you’d like to carpool, meet at the Masters at 11:30 am.
The FCWC supports a local homeless ministry called the Samaritan Resource Center. With the rainy months fast approaching, we’re collecting rain ponchos. Our drop-off box is located at 14349 Augusta Road.

Fairways Sewing Group

The Fairways Sewing Group continues its quiet work, stitch by stitch, creating pieces that carry kindness far beyond our community. We begin, as always, with gratitude. To those who have donated sewing machines, fabric, thread, and supplies, please know your generosity reaches farther than you may ever see. What you have given does not sit on a shelf; it is transformed. It becomes comfort. It becomes dignity. It becomes a reminder to someone somewhere that they are not forgotten.
This month, our group was able to donate 22 crocheted blankets to local chemotherapy patients, each one made with love to bring comfort during difficult times. We also created and donated a walker bag to a worker at Boardwalk Bowl, offering both practical help and a reminder that kindness can be found in everyday places. Our outreach even extended beyond Florida when four crocheted blankets traveled to North Dakota with one of our snowbirds to be distributed to individuals during the cold winter months. It is inspiring to see how something made here in the Fairways can
provide warmth and care so many miles away.
What makes this group special is not just what we create, but how we create it together. Some sew; others cut, press, measure, or organize. No role is too small. Every hand contributes; every effort matters. And in between work, there is laughter, conversation, shared stories, and the kind of fellowship that turns a group into a community.
We welcome anyone who feels called to be part of this. You don’t need experience, only a willingness to help and a heart for others. We gather each Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Greenbrier, pausing mid-morning to share coffee, treats, and good company.
So, if you happen to pass by, come in and take a look. You may see fabric and thread, but look a little closer, and you’ll find something more. You’ll find kindness in motion. You’ll find purpose in every stitch. Because here in the Fairways, we believe that even the smallest thread, placed with care, can help mend a much larger world.
Save the Date! October 21, 2026 Fairways Fight for the Cure Golf Tournament
The tournament will be held on October 21 starting with a putting contest at 8:00 am followed by a round of golf. Lunch will be served at the Masters after the tournament, and we will have Share the Wealth and Raffles.
All proceeds go to Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation in Orlando. Breast cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death to women so please join us and show your support for this most worthy case.

Gene Palermo scored his 7th hole in one on April 13, 2026, while playing in The Avery Group with John Jennings, Dick Avery and Steve Owens.
Gene aced the 12th hole which was playing at 126 yards to complete the cycle of acing all the par 3’s at Fairways Golf Club.
After his round, Gene collected the hole-in-one pot and bought everyone who came in the pro shop a drink and was even seen out by Pebble Beach Blvd inviting people in to have a drink.

Jolting Johnny Cards his Fourth
John Wasyl or as he was known in the boing world as Jolting Johnny, the Polish Prince of the Ring, carded his fourth career ace on April 15,2026, while playing in the Fran Bernier Wednesday Scramble. John was playing that day with Fran The Beast Bernier, Jimmy Happy Hour Hofer and Mike Longball Johnson, a resident of our sister community Palm Valley.

John accomplished his feat of the ultimate golf shot on hole number 8 which was playing at 105 yards on this day. With one swing of his club John scored his fourth hole in one, which is three (3) more than his total boxing match wins, proving that his decision to retire from boxing and devote his life to golf was a great decision. After his round John followed golfing tradition and bought drinks for everyone in the pro shop and after collecting the money from the hole-in-one pot, he was only $120 out-of-pocket and this reporter heard that he had decided to come out of retirement and get back in the ring to cover his losses. Good luck with that John. achievement, Gene.
Quilts of Valor for a Fairways Veteran

One afternoon this past March, Quilts of Valor members Audrey Carr, Jackie Root and Annie Ossenkop-Aaron as well as several members with the Fairways Veterans Group had the privilege to present a Quilt of Valor to Veteran Lance King, honoring him for his military service in the Navy. Lance wasn’t able to attend our February ceremonies due to health issues.
The Mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover Service Members and Veterans with comforting and healing quilts recognizing their Honorable service to our country. There is never a charge to the recipient. The requirements are that they are living and had an honorable discharge from the Military service.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation is nationwide and relies on support from donations. Central Florida QOV is here in Orlando, and the group meets once a month in Orlando to work on these comforting quilts.
Annie is our QOV Fairways contact for nominating a service member or veteran to be considered to receive one of these wonderful quilts. If you are interested in supporting this group, nominate a veteran, or attend the monthly quilt day, please contact Annie Ossenkop-Aaron 559-760-9860.

As hurricane season approaches, we want to ensure that all Fairways Country Club residents are informed, prepared, and confident in knowing what to do in the event of a storm.
Below is a helpful guide with local shelter information, including options for pets and residents with special needs, along with recommended preparation tips.

New England-Canada Club Update

The Club met on the third Monday of April at the Masters. President Fran Archibald welcomed all present and Julia Kerns led the invocation. Fran invited everyone to enjoy our fabulous potluck supper buffet before our membership meeting.
Ronnie Tricoche-Griffin, Sunshine Committee, sent get well wishes to Janet Scanlon, Ken Bickford, Lorraine Schneider and Mae Glatthaar. Vice President, Linda Murray set up all the chairs and tables for our buffet and handled “Share the Wealth:” tickets and awarded prizes of $15, $10 and $5.
Edwin Ramirez welcomed all attendees at our sign-in table with a door prize ticket. Door prize tickets were drawn and winners selected prizes. We appreciate all those who donate door prizes. If you have some treasures, you no longer need, please bring them
to the door prizes table at our monthly meeting.
Letitia Morales coordinates all aspects of our potluck supper. She sets up the tables and assists members who bring casseroles, salads, vegetables, vegetables, spaghetti, ham, fried chicken, party sandwiches, baked beans and more, plus luscious desserts! She is an amazing kitchen angel.
Members enjoyed playing HoBo Bingo with Fran Archibald. We appreciate all who participate in the New England-Canada Club. Fran asked Edwin to ask for volunteers in the community to assist in placing the US flags on May 18 at the triangle for the Memorial Day weekend.

VETERAN’S CORNER
On Memorial Day we remember, honor, pay our respects and mourn all U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It was originally known as “Decoration Day”
On Monday May 25th, the Fairways Veterans Group will hold a “Memorial Day Remembrance” service at the Fairways Veterans Memorial (flags) adjacent to the Masters Clubhouse. It will begin at 10:30am. We invite all Fairways residents and their families to attend.
FIELD OF FLAGS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF VETERAN SUICIDE
On Saturday May 16th starting at 9am, we will be gathering at the “Fairways Triangle” to place flags to remember and bring awareness of the hardships that many veterans have faced, often because of experiences during their service. We are asking for volunteers to help with the placing of the flags.
DISCO DANCE
On Friday April 10th we had our Annual Disco Night Fever Dance. There was a great turn out to listen to the music with Dave Capp with his trumpet and France Neil with vocals. We want to thank everyone for the continual support the Fairways Veterans Group has received through the years. This was our last event before our “Snow Birds” return north. We wish them a safe trip to their summer homes. We look forward in seeing you back here in the fall.

ATTENTION RIDERS: Courtesy van service is available to Hometown America Fairways residents who want to participate in adventures to area shopping centers.
Each week, the van makes three runs: Tuesday to Publix; Wednesday to Winn Dixie and Friday open for Walmart, Aldis or another store upon request.
“While that is the standard schedule, due to conflicts, days may change,” John Cutsinger, driver, said. “Riders are asked to make your reservation by Sunday to make sure seats can be confirmed, however you can call the day before to see is space is available.”
The van is available at 10 a.m. at the Masters for loading. Call or text John Cutsinger with any questions.

The 2026 Winter Bocce Ball Tournament was won by Lynne Blair and Bud Boney. 44 teams competed over a nine-week period, with a 16-team playoff. Lynne and Bud defeated Jim McGrath and Coach Michalski for the Championship.
