As we step into 2026, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead to bring Fairfield City together and continue building a vibrant, connected community.
Already this year we’ve celebrated Australia Day events and provided free beach buses for residents to Sydney’s iconic beaches. Coming up is our highly anticipated Cabramatta Lunar New Year event, the Bring It On! Youth Festival, and the Seniors Festival Expo. You can find out about these events and more in this issue of City Life.
The Canleys Special Entertainment Precincts are now in full swing, bringing extended outdoor dining, live music and longer trading hours to Canley Heights and Canley Vale. Visit www. discoverfairfield.com.au.
We’ve also marked major milestones with several projects now complete and ready for the community to enjoy. Endeavour Sports Park delivers worldclass facilities for local sports and recreation.
Our parks and playgrounds have also received exciting upgrades and are ready for families to explore:
• Nelson Park - boasts modern, inclusive play featuring a 25-metre flying fox, play zones, fitness hub and shaded picnic areas
• Prout Park - upgraded with a large play space including dinkie bike track, flying fox, slides, climbing ropes, and shaded areas

Coming up we have lots to look forward to as we continue to expand the Fairfield Showground entertainment precinct with a new community and events centre, as well as the delivery of a new playground at Brenan Park in Smithfield, and scheduled improvements to Fairfield Golf Course. Stay tuned for more information.
These initiatives are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance community life and ensure Fairfield City remains a great place to live, work, and play. Thank you for your continued support as we build a stronger, more connected City.

Frank Carbone Mayor of Fairfield City

We are continuing to make our City an attractive place to live with a program of street beautification initiatives, such as public art decals being put on utility infrastructure, industrial estate entranceway upgrades and signage, more planter boxes around our City, and wall art murals.
The Smithfield and Wetherill Park industrial estate is an economic powerhouse of thriving businesses, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look great too, so we’re going to continue to plant attractive colourful shrubs and small trees along road corridors in high traffic areas across the estate. This year we have focused on Cowpasture Road near The Horsley Drive.
This is all in addition to our regular schedule of grass mowing and garden maintenance, street sweeping, litter removal and planting of approximately 23,000 new trees and plants across the City.
Local families are getting more opportunities to get out and about and active together as our playground upgrade program continues apace.
Recent playgrounds upgraded under the program include Avenel Park, Canley Vale; Fairfield Park; Nelson Park, Fairfield; Endeavour Sports Park, Fairfield West; and Prout Park, Mt Pritchard. We hope you have been enjoying these new facilities.
In the coming year we will also be working toward upgrading playgrounds and open space with works including playground and fitness equipment, flying foxes, seating, pathways, basketball hoops and more at Chisholm Park, St Johns Park; Powhatan Park, Greenfield Park; Lalich and Kinghorne parks, Bonnyrigg; Heysen and Province parks, Abbotsbury; King Park 2, Wakeley; Joe Broad Park, Mt Pritchard; and Wetherill Park Reserve.
Planning for the Fairfield Showground Community and Events Centre is moving ahead. Detailed design is almost complete and the search for a head construction contractor is underway.
The state-of-the-art facility will feature an exhibition hall with stage, multipurpose indoor sport courts, large foyer, and an open-air courtyard with covered forecourt – perfect for concerts, markets, conferences, and community celebrations.
Jointly funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program and Council, this project will give Fairfield City a modern, flexible venue for events big and small. Construction is expected to commence in 2027.

Fairfield Showground came alive as thousands joined us at Illuminate to welcome the new year with dazzling fireworks and vibrant festivities.

Congratulations to Clarabelle - winner of the Design the Mayor's Christmas Card Competition.

Council gave 25 not-for-profit projects almost $100,000 to deliver programs, activities, and celebrations across Fairfield City this year.

Congratulations to the volunteers recognised at the NSW SES Fairfield Unit end of year and rank awards presentation event.
