Your Bi-Monthly Look at the Heartbeat of Our Group
Welcome to the winter edition of your Faircape Focus. We’re officially halfway through the year, and as the Cape Town chill settles in, it feels like the perfect moment to pause, look back on everything we’ve achieved so far, and look ahead with renewed energy for the months still to come. The first half of 2026 has shown us just how much we’re capable of when we show up for one another. From the wellness initiatives bringing us together, to the colleagues quietly going above and beyond every single day, to the milestones being celebrated across the Group, it’s clear that the heart of Faircape continues to beat strong.
Winter has a way of slowing things down, and that’s no bad thing. It’s a season for warmth, for connection, and for taking stock. As we move through these cooler months, let’s carry that same spirit into how we support one another, both in and out of the workplace.
There is still so much ahead of us this year. New faces have joined the Faircape family, longserving colleagues continue to set the standard for dedication and care, and the momentum we built in the first half of the year is only growing. Whatever the next six months hold, we’re confident that together, we’ll meet it with the same pride and purpose that has carried us this far.
Here’s to a strong, connected second half of 2026.
Wellbeing and Milestones 1.
At Faircape, we believe that a healthy team is a thriving team. Our wellness programme has always been about more than just ticking boxes, it’s about creating an environment where our people feel supported, connected, and cared for. Our programme has focused on two core pillars: keeping our bodies moving through physical activity, and creating meaningful opportunities for connection that strengthen our workplace relationships. From group fitness sessions to team social events, these initiatives have been designed with one goal in mind: your well-being.
DID YOU KNOW?
Here’s the science behind why your work besties make your life better. Oxytocin is released during moments of trust and genuine connection. It lowers cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone. Dopamine surges during moments of belonging and deep connection, boosting motivation and pleasure. Serotonin is your mood’s regulator. Regular, positive socialising keeps serotonin levels healthy, which helps buffer against anxiety and low mood. Endorphins are known as “nature’s painkiller” and are released during shared laughter, group activities, and even a warm exchange with a colleague in the corridor. The relationships you build at work aren’t just pleasant - they’re protective. Make time for them.
PEOPLE & Culture 2.
Last month, we had two sessions that proved wellness can be equal parts meaningful and actually fun. Our step challenge offered a great reminder to move our bodies and to keep our competitive sides alive - while our Pictionary session (yes, some of it blindfolded!) had colleagues laughing, competing, and connecting in ways that a normal workday rarely allows for. These are exactly the kinds of moments our wellness programme is built around - and we’d love to see more of you at the next one. If you haven’t joined us yet, consider this your personal invitation. The sessions are relaxed, inclusive, and open to everyone
- no experience, skill, or competitive spirit required. The more colleagues who come along, the richer these experiences become for everyone. Keep an eye on upcoming session dates and come and see what it’s all about. We think you’ll be glad you did. Looking ahead, we’re building on this foundation. Alongside our existing activities, we’ll include more education-based sessions led by our internal experts. These sessions will offer true benefit to your wellness - whether it’s just for a laugh, some time to relax, or learning a new skill. Watch this space for more details on upcoming sessions.
Every team has people who quietly make everything run better. This section is for them.
Faircape Champions is our way of shining a light on colleagues who have gone above and beyond - not just once, but consistently. Whether it’s showing up with heart when it mattered most, supporting a teammate without being asked, or simply bringing dedication and care to their work every single day, these are the people who raise the bar for all of us.
Over the past few months, we have been proud to recognise colleagues whose commitment, reliability, and kindness have made a real and tangible difference to their teams and to the people in our care. Their contributions may not always make headlines, but they are felt - and they deserve to be celebrated.
To every Champion recognised so far: THANK YOU. Your effort, your attitude, and the pride you take in your work inspire us all.

Wietz van As | Claremont (ISP Desktop Support Technician)
Violet Mushonga | Noordhoek (Food Service Manager)
Know someone who deserves to be acknowledged?
We’d love to hear about them! If you’re a Line Manager, you can submit a formal nomination through the recognition process.
If you’re a colleague who has witnessed someone doing great work - lending a hand, stepping up, or simply showing up with a great attitude day after day - speak to your Line Manager and encourage them to put that person forward.
Recognition doesn’t have to be reserved for the big moments. Often it’s the small, consistent actions that make the deepest impact.
Let’s keep lifting each other up!

GROWTH In Motion
Often, when we look back at our experiences in life, it’s not just about the roles we’ve held or the titles we’ve earned. It’s about the moments of learning, the challenges we’ve faced, and the courage it took me to step into something new.
Some of our colleagues have recently taken that step, moving into new roles and embracing fresh opportunities. It’s a chance to grow, to stretch themselves, and to make an even bigger impact in the work they do.
We’re proud to celebrate these milestones and the effort, dedication, and resilience that made them possible. Their journeys remind us that growth isn’t just about what you achieve; but about the journey, the lessons learned, and the inspiration it gives to everyone around you.
Congratulations to everyone taking on new challenges. Your growth is in motion, and it’s worth celebrating.
If you have a celebration outside of Faircape, tell us! We would like to celebrate with you.

VOICES Of Faircape
You’ve seen them, you know them, you’ve worked with them - but who are they, really? Here’s a little insight into some familiar faces.
Meet Sr Karin Louwrens Group NSM
What is your most-used phrase or saying?
“It’s a new day!” - With every sunrise comes a fresh opportunity to start again and do the very best we can. What happened yesterday is behind us. I’ve carried this mindset throughout many years as a manager, allowing me to leave the weight of yesterday where it belongs and focus my energy on today. It has also helped me build strong relationships with my team, as they know I don’t dwell on past mistakes and instead focus on moving forward together.
What is one thing you’re currently learning, trying, or improving?
Professionally, I dedicate 20 - 30 minutes every day to learning something new or revising existing knowledge. Continuous learning is important to me and helps me stay current and engaged in my role. Personally, I have many interests, but the ongoing creation of my white garden (mostly sea sand), brings me immense joy. Watching it evolve and flourish is both rewarding and restorative.
What is one thing that always makes you enjoy coming to work?
Without a doubt, it’s my team. Being greeted so warmly each day is a wonderful way to start work. I’m continually inspired by their willingness to embrace direction and their shared commitment to being the best team of nurses we can be. Their dedication, positivity, and teamwork make coming to work a genuine pleasure.
Andrew Warren Brand Manager
If your work life had a soundtrack, what would we be listening to?
A mix of classic rock and calendar reminders.
What is one thing you’re currently learning, trying, or improving?
I’m working on staying focused and organised while also trying to balance this with enough flexibility to spot new ideas and opportunities as they arise - and to ensure my future self doesn’t have to send my present self a strongly-worded email.
What is one quality you appreciate most in the people you work with?
The quality I appreciate most in the people I work with is good energy - people who bring humour, ideas, and a calm “we’ve got this” attitude.
Bradley Stainer Senior HR Generalist
If you had a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you go first?
Without a doubt, Oslo, Norway. I’ve always been fascinated by the country’s stunning landscapes, rich history, and innovative culture. Between the fjords, northern lights, and unique Scandinavian way of life, it would be an incredible place to explore.
If you had to teach a 5-minute class on anything, what would you teach us?
I’d teach a quick introduction on how an RBMK nuclear reactor works. Nuclear energy is a fascinating topic, and I’d enjoy breaking down the basics of reactor design, how electricity is generated, and some of the lessons the world learned from famous historical events involving this technology.
What is one thing that always makes you enjoy coming to work?
My team. Working with supportive, hardworking people who are always willing to help each other makes a huge difference. The camaraderie, shared goals, and daily interactions are what make coming to work enjoyable and rewarding.
