FAIRCAPE FOCUS Faircape In Full Bloom

Welcome to our spring edition! The days are getting longer, the mountain is turning green again, and there’s a new kind of energy around our facilities and offices. In our winter edition, we spoke about slowing down and taking stock. Now it’s time to watch what we planted start to grow. Spring is a season of renewal, but blooming doesn’t happen by accident. It takes care, patience, the right conditions and a little sunshine. The same is true for teams. When we look out for one another, share what we know and make room for each other to grow, everyone flourishes.

With the final stretch of 2026 ahead of us, let’s carry that spirit into the busy (and exciting!) months to come. There’s still plenty to achieve before year-end, and we’re confident we’ll get there the way we always do: together, and with lots of coffee.

Here’s to another edition filled with stories that celebrate us all.

1.

SPOTLIGHT ON

Wellness

In our last edition, we promised you more ways to move, more chances to connect, and more education-based sessions led by the experts we’re lucky to have within our own walls. This season, that promise has started to bloom. This season has brought mindful walks and park walks, word searches, finance talks, sessions on high blood pressure and diabetes, bingo, races, and more! Our wellness programme still rests on the same two pillars that have always guided it: keeping our bodies moving and supporting true wellbeing. Spring makes both a little easier. Warmer days and more daylight have a way of making it harder to say no to a walk at lunch or a moment outside. If there’s a session you’ve been meaning to try, this is your sign. Taking care of yourself isn’t stepping away from the work, it’s creating the conditions to do it well.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS Pink October October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink October is a reminder to prioritise your health, as early detection can make a difference in breast cancer care. Make time for regular check-ups, speak to your healthcare provider about screening, and encourage the people you care about to do the same. World Mental Health Day: 10 October 2026 Mental health matters every day. This October we’d like to give you a reminder to check in with yourself and with the people around you. You’re not alone. Resources and support are available through SADAG at sadag.org, covering depression, anxiety, substance abuse, PTSD, and much more. Movember Movember is an annual event held every November where participants grow moustaches to raise awareness and funds for men’s health. World Diabetes Day: 14 November World Diabetes Day raises global awareness for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and promotes equitable access to affordable insulin, monitoring tools, and lifestyle support.

DID YOU KNOW? Here’s why spring makes you feel better - it’s not just in your head! Sunlight helps your brain produce serotonin, the chemical that steadies your mood. Morning daylight sets your internal body clock, so you sleep better at night and feel more alert during the day. Sun exposure also helps your skin produce vitamin D, which supports your bones, muscles, and immune system. Even being around plants and green spaces has been linked to lower stress levels. A short walk outside or a coffee in the sun is an investment in how you feel. The conditions we create for ourselves matter - in spring, nature makes it a little easier to get them right. Step outside. Your body will thank you.

A Warm Welcome: Our New Wellness Partners Faircape has partnered with two Industrial Psychologists from InvisionHR – Leandri Kruger and Nicky Ramsey – who have joined us to help shape and support our wellness initiatives and HR-related initiatives across the Group. Their focus will be on creating practical, accessible ways to support employee wellbeing and engagement. They’ll be working closely with the Claremont team, guiding our wellness committees across the facilities, and helping us build something that’s relevant and meaningful to every person in this organisation. There’s a lot to look forward to. Watch this space!

PEOPLE

& Culture FAIRCAPE

Champions

Great things grow from small, consistent acts of care. These champions prove it every day. These are our colleagues who help everyone around them flourish. They’re the ones who notice when a colleague needs a hand, who go the extra mile for a resident without being asked, and who bring the same care and commitment to their work whether anyone is watching or not. Since our last edition, we’ve been proud to recognise even more colleagues whose reliability, kindness and dedication have made a difference to their teams and to the people in our care. Like a garden in spring, their impact is easy to see once you know where to look. To every Champion recognised this season: THANK YOU. We appreciate you. You help this whole organisation grow.

A note on welcoming well Get to know your new colleagues! Embrace their fresh ideas. Extend patience and understanding. The way we welcome people says a lot about who we are, and making room for someone new to find their feet is one of the simplest, most meaningful things we can do for each other.

GROWTH

In Motion

Every garden has its moment, when all the patient work below the surface finally breaks through. Careers are much the same. Behind every new role is a long stretch of learning, effort and quiet persistence that most people never see. This season, we celebrate colleagues who have taken that next step, moving into new roles and embracing bigger challenges. Their growth didn’t happen overnight. It came from showing up, learning from setbacks and saying yes when the opportunity came. Their journeys are a reminder to all of us that growth is always possible, and that it often inspires the people around us to reach a little higher too. Congratulations to everyone stepping into something new. You’re in full bloom, and it’s worth celebrating!

VOICES

Of Faircape

You’ve seen them, worked alongside them, shared a corridor or a coffee with them - but who are they, really? This season, we hand the floor to a few more familiar faces from across the Group. A garden is always more interesting when you get closer to what’s growing in it.

Meet De Wet Wilsch Executive Head Chef

What puts a smile on your face at work? The people. Good teamwork, a few laughs, and seeing everything come together at the end of a busy day - that’s what makes it worthwhile. Your workday theme song? “I Will Survive” - Gloria Gaynor. Especially on the days when the kitchen is in full swing. Something a colleague taught you that you’ll never forget? That calm is a superpower. Never underestimate staying calm under pressure, keeping your sense of humour, and remembering that there’s always a solution - even when things get a little heated. Literally.

Meet Christelle du Plessis Onrus Healthcare Manager

What puts a smile on your face at work? The little moments that remind me why we do what we do. A resident’s smile. A heartfelt thank you from a family member. Seeing a team member go the extra mile to brighten someone’s day. Those moments make everything worthwhile, and they’re a reminder that at the heart of healthcare, it is always about people. Your workday theme song? “Count on Me” - Bruno Mars. Because every day is about supporting the team and knowing we can rely on one another. Although “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley runs a very close second. Healthcare is full of unexpected twists, and that song is a good reminder to stay positive and trust that we’ll work through whatever the day brings. Preferably with a smile. Something a colleague taught you that you’ll never forget? The most powerful part of healthcare isn’t what we do. It’s how we make people feel.

Meet Gail Pieterse

Talent Acquisition Specialist What puts a smile on your face at work? Seeing someone I’ve recruited settle into their role and do well is always rewarding. I also appreciate being part of a company that encourages you to take on new challenges and provides opportunities to learn and grow. Then lastly, there are the people I work with, the laughs we share and the great coffee from Anathi! Your workday theme song? “Under Pressure” – Queen & David Bowie. In recruitment, everything was needed yesterday! But that’s also what keeps things interesting – no two days are ever quite the same! Something a colleague taught you that you’ll never forget? That no matter how long you’ve been doing your job, there’s always something new to learn from the people around you. Everyone brings their own experience and perspective, and I’ve learnt the value of being open to different points of view, as there’s always something you can learn from someone else.

Meet Shane Lottriet Process Engineer

What puts a smile on your face at work? My two co-workers in Water Services. Everyone shares what they know, pitches in when things get hectic, and keeps a sense of humour when a job doesn’t go to plan. It’s a team that takes the work seriously without taking itself too seriously, and that makes the day easier. Your workday theme song? “Roman Holiday” - Nicki Minaj Something a colleague taught you that you’ll never forget? That “it’ll only take five minutes” is never true. I was taught this early on. Now I double the estimate. Some lessons you only need to learn once, and I’ve learned that one repeatedly.

Meet Loyiso Mngxekeza Financial Controller

What puts a smile on your face at work? The people are great to work with. They are always willing to help out. The coffee that Anathi makes. Also the fact that you get to spend the whole day with colleagues that are not just people I work with but a support system as well. Your workday theme song? “We Right Here” - DMX. Something a colleague taught you that you’ll never forget? Just ensure your work is up to par and all will be good. Anthea said to me, “Never forget that the way you treat people on your way up says more about you than the position you reach.”

Meet Michaela Valentine

Head of Department Debtors Health What puts a smile on your face at work? Conversations with residents and giving them an ear to talk to. Your workday theme song? “Survivor” - Destiny’s Child. Something a colleague taught you that you’ll never forget? Good communication builds good relationships (Lesley Van Huysteen).

Meet Wietz van As

ISP Desktop Support Technician What puts a smile on your face at work? The people I work with. Even on the busiest days, there’s always someone who can make me laugh and brighten my day. Your workday theme song? “Whatever It Takes” - Imagine Dragons. Something a colleague taught you that you’ll never forget? “You don’t have to know everything. Sometimes the most important thing is knowing when to ask for help.”

Whatever this season brings your way - a new challenge, a quiet win, or a moment that reminds you why you do what you do - we hope you carry a little bit of this energy with you. Spring is proof that patience and care always produce something worth seeing. Keep going. Keep growing. We’ll see you in the next one.
