FAIRCAPE FOCUS

Where People, Purpose and Progress Meet.

Your Bi-Monthly Look at the Heartbeat of Our Group

Welcome to your first Faircape Focus for 2026. Last year ended on a high, and as an organisation, we achieved some fantastic milestones. Many of us have returned from some well-deserved time, recharging, spending time with family, going away, or simply unplugging for a while.

A huge thank you to those who held down the fort and kept things running smoothly while others were away. We are officially back into the swing of things, and there is lots to be excited about.

This year, Faircape celebrates 42 years of nurturing a culture we can all be proud of, one that grows with every new challenge, every team member, and every interaction along the way. Over the next few months, we will be sharpening our brand positioning (marketing team, get your war paint on), expanding our facilities as more residents and patients join us, and strengthening our talent pipeline with HR doing what they do best.

Growth and change across any business brings its fair share of challenges, new opportunities, and plenty of momentum. You can expect more focus on people and culture from HR this year and lots of exciting progress.

Here’s to another edition filled with stories that celebrate us all.

New Year, Same Goals & Vision

The start of a new year is always full of possibilities, and by March, we’re finding our rhythm, tackling new projects, and setting the tone for what’s ahead. Staying steady means leaning on the basics, like being consistent, collaborating with colleagues across the organisation and choosing resilience and positivity, even on the most challenging of days. Resilience doesn’t have to be loud, though. It shows up in the colleague who keeps a clear head under pressure, the teammate who checks in when someone’s having a tough day, or the manager who quietly supports their team.

DID YOU KNOW?

Studies show that people who take short movement breaks are 35% more productive than those who stay seated for long periods. Taking a few minutes to stretch or move around every hour can improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, and improve your focus. Consider taking a few seconds to stand up to stretch, walk over to a colleague’s desk or do a quick shoulder roll. Over time, these small steps can make a big difference for both body and mind.

PEOPLE & Culture 2.

Culture is built in the everyday moments at Faircape, including the celebrations, the challenges, the laughs, the setbacks, and the way we always get back up. Across our villages, healthcare teams, and the Claremont office, we continue to see inspiring examples of teamwork, care, and dedication every day. Last year ended on a high note, with each team enjoying their own special end-of-year celebrations, and by all accounts, there was plenty of fun to go around. We kicked off 2026 by coming together for a cheerful raffle in support of the Animal Welfare Society

of South Africa (AWS SA), raising an amazing R9,000. There was also a lot of red and pink as everyone got into the Valentine’s Day spirit across our villages. At our Claremont office, several pets continue to come in and brighten our workdays on Pet Fridays, and Thrive Fridays are now back in full swing, giving everyone a chance to stretch, walk, chat, and connect during lunchtime. Take a moment to enjoy a glimpse of these incredible Faircape reminders of the difference we make and the motivation to keep building a culture we can all be proud of.

FAIRCAPE Champions

Showing up matters, and it’s worth celebrating every time it happens.

In this section we shine a spotlight on some of the colleagues who have gone above and beyond over the last few months and years. Their consistency, reliability, and heart have made a tangible impact.

These colleagues have stepped up when it mattered most and shown dedication, care, and teamwork that inspire us all. Your commitment makes a real difference, and we want to say thank you for your effort, kindness, and pride.

Let’s keep celebrating those who raise the bar, quietly or boldly, through their work and their attitude.

Keep inspiring us, keep showing up, and keep making a difference.

Glenda Makiseni | Bridgewater (Housekeeper)

Juanita Sylveste | Bridgewater (Carer Team Leader)

Know someone who deserves to be acknowledged?

We’d love to shine a light on them!

If you’re a Line Manager, you can submit a formal nomination through the recognition process. If you’re a colleague who’s witnessed someone doing great work, whether it’s lending a hand, stepping up, or just consistently showing up with heart, speak to your Line Manager and encourage them to put that person forward. Recognition doesn’t have to be reserved for big achievements. Sometimes it’s the small, consistent actions that make the biggest impact, and they deserve to be celebrated just as much.

Let’s keep lifting each other up, one story at a time.

FRESH FACES At Faircape

Faircape is always growing, creating new opportunities for fresh talent to join our family. We welcome new colleagues who bring unique thinking, new strengths, and renewed energy to our teams.

Starting a new job has its own set of challenges with new systems, new people, and new routines. We want every new colleague to feel welcomed and supported from day one. It’s the small gestures, and thoughtful guidance, that help craft the beginning of a meaningful journey.

Let’s continue to make every new team member feel supported, included, and equipped to thrive.

Get to know our new colleagues, embrace their fresh ideas, extend patience and understanding, and go the extra mile to help them feel part of the Faircape community from day one.

COMPANY GROWTH = GROWING TALENT

At the beginning of 2025, Faircape’s total workforce stood at 943 employees.

As we stepped into 2026, we are proud to share that this number has grown to 1,010 - reflecting a 7.1% increase in our workforce.

Growth at this scale doesn’t happen without intention. It has required us to create completely new roles across the business - roles that didn’t exist a year ago, but now support our expanding operations, facilities and strategic direction. Some of the new roles include:

Sales and Rental Agents

Patient Assessment and Marketing Nurses

Village Nurse

Kitchen Manager

Junior Sales Engineer

Security Solutions Manager

Waiters

Barman

Housekeepers

This means fresh thinking, new expertise, different perspectives, and yes - some seriously interesting and awesome people joining the team.

As we continue to grow, so does the importance of connection and culture. A bigger workforce means even more reason to be intentional about how we engage, support and bring people together.

Keep an eye out - you’ll be seeing new faces around the business very soon.

GROWTH In Motion

Often, when we look back at our experiences in life, it’s not just about the roles we’ve held or the titles we’ve earned. It’s about the moments of learning, the challenges we’ve faced, and the courage it took me to step into something new.

Some of our colleagues have recently taken that step, moving into new roles and embracing fresh opportunities. It’s a chance to grow, to stretch themselves, and to make an even bigger impact in the work they do.

We’re proud to celebrate these milestones and the effort, dedication, and resilience that made them possible. Their journeys remind us that growth isn’t just about what you achieve; but about the journey, the lessons learned, and the inspiration it gives to everyone around you.

Congratulations to everyone taking on new challenges. Your growth is in motion, and it’s worth celebrating.

If you have a celebration outside of Faircape, tell us! We would like to celebrate with you.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you’ve been anywhere near the marketing office on a Friday, chances are you’ve already met Daisy.

She’s become a much-loved part of the endof-week routine, popping in to say hello, collect a few pats, and brighten the Claremont office with her wagging tail and cheerful presence.

MOMENTS That Matter

Every year of service counts, and we’re grateful for each of you. Below are the work anniversaries we are celebrating in 2026.

Achievement: A huge well done to Sister Magobiyane, a registered nurse at Faircape Health Somerset West, who recently passed her PG Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing.

Congratulations to Monica Mason, Village Manager at Faircape Life Noordhoek, who recently celebrated five wonderful years with Faircape. Monica’s dedication, steady leadership, and genuine care for both residents and staff have made a meaningful impact in the Noordhoek community.

Thank you, Monica, for everything you do. We’re so grateful to have you as part of the Faircape family, and we look forward to many more years ahead.

Every voice matters at Faircape. Get to know some of our colleagues! Because when we listen to each other, we grow stronger as a community.

A food combination that others might think is strange?

Peanut butter and celery.

What’s your comfort TV show or movie and why?

The Office - A lot of the humour comes from awkward situations.

What’s one thing you can’t work without?

Coffee - without a doubt.

What do you appreciate most about your team?

The diverse group of people from all walks of life that give their all everyday. They might not be perfect but they try everyday.

What piece of wisdom do you live by?

It costs nothing to be kind.

What’s one thing you can’t work without?

Earrings. I feel unfinished without them.

What food combination do you love that others might think is strange? Bovril, ham and cheese spread on toast. My whole office rolls their eyes, but I love it.

If your life had a theme song, what genre would it be?

Probably pop-rock, a bit energetic, a bit unpredictable, but it somehow works out.

What’s your comfort TV show or movie and why?

Hallmark movies. They’re predictable, easy to watch, and always have a happy ending.

What do you appreciate most about your team?

They genuinely care, and they’ve taught me a lot, especially about planning ahead and saving.

What piece of wisdom do you live by?

No matter how badly people treat you, always stay true to your character.

If you had a superpower at work, what would it be?

The ability to magically locate missing equipment the moment someone says, “Has anyone seen where the wheelchair foot-plate went?”

What’s something you believed as a child that makes you laugh now?

When I was little, I genuinely believed that if the interior car light went on while we were driving at night… we’d immediately get arrested or end up distracting another driver so much they swerve off the road. The panic I felt if someone touched that switch was unmatched. Now I realise it was just peak parent drama, but honestly, the conviction in their voices deserved an award.

What’s one skill you’re secretly proud of?

I’m secretly very proud of my ability to read the room in under 10 seconds. Awkward silence? I’ve got a comment or a joke. Tension brewing? I’m already diffusing it with another joke. Meeting going off track? Subtle redirect activated with a better joke. It’s basically emotional Wi-Fi, I just connect automatically. All are welcome to hotspot near my fantastic humor.

If your work life was a soundtrack, what song are we listening to?

Probably Doomsday by Architects (heavy metal), because work sometimes feels like staring down a massive pile of tasks while thinking, “Okay, let’s go again”. It’s the kind of track that plays in my head when I switch from “I can handle this” to “I will finish this even if it takes pure determination and strong coffee.”

If you had to teach a 5-minute class on anything, what would it be about?

I would teach a 5-minute class on “How to Look Like You Have Your Life Together in Meetings Even When You Don’t.”

Topics would include: nodding thoughtfully while someone speaks, mastering the strategic “let me just write that down” moment, and the art of looking deeply concerned about something you definitely didn’t understand. Bonus section: how to smile and say, “That’s a great point,” when you need 30 seconds to process what was just said.

What’s something small that always makes your day better?

A genuine laugh with a colleague or patient, even just something small and unexpected. It’s a simple reminder that work isn’t only about tasks, but about the people and moments that make the day feel lighter.

If you had a superpower at work, what would it be?

My superpower would be operational foresight or seeing the future - the ability to foresee situations in advance, allowing me to plan proactively, navigate challenges strategically, and prevent issues before they arise. This would enable me to stay ahead of potential obstacles, allocate resources effectively, and always ensure smooth, consistent operations rather than reacting to them.

What’s something you believed as a child that makes you laugh now?

I believed that life would be easy. Looking back now, I can laugh at that childhood assumption because reality has been full of challenges, unexpected twists, and lessons I never anticipated. Each setback, disappointment, and difficult moment has shaped me, teaching resilience, patience, and perseverance. Those experiences have strengthened my character, sharpened my problem-solving, and given me the confidence to face future challenges with determination.

What’s one skill you’re secretly proud of?

One skill I’m secretly proud of is cooking. I actually think I’m pretty good at it. I started learning in my early teens, and working in hospitality gave me the chance to continuously explore, experiment, and improve.

If your work life was a soundtrack, what song are we listening to?

If my work life was a soundtrack, I actually have two songs: “Hall of Fame” by The Script featuring Will.I.Am, and “Legendary” by Welshly Arms. Both capture the drive, determination, and energy I try to bring to every challenge, reminding me to push boundaries and aim high while striving to make a lasting impact.

If you had to teach a 5-minute class on anything, what would it be about?

If I had to teach a 5-minute class on anything, I would teach the importance of the 5 P’s: Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. I believe this principle is crucial in all aspects of work, as taking the time to plan, organize, and anticipate challenges not only reduces mistakes but also builds confidence, efficiency, and consistency. Proper preparation ensures that you’re ready for anything, turning potential obstacles into opportunities for smooth, successful outcomes.

What’s something small that always makes your day better?

Currently, it’s the appreciation I see in the faces and hear in the words of the residents and patients at the villages and facilities. I believe they have worked hard all their lives and now deserve the very best from us.

Seeing that gratitude reminds me why I do what I do, and it drives me to push my teams to approach every day with the same care, respect, and dedication.

A Little Something Before the Upcoming Long Weekend

The Easter weekend is around the corner and while everyone celebrates in their own way, one thing remains constant across Faircape: our commitment to employee wellbeing.

Our Wellness Committees across the facilities continue to invest time and care into hosting weekly initiatives that support connection, movement, creativity and learning.

That standard and the passion behind it will remain unchanged in 2026. With the long weekend approaching… Let’s just say: Keep your ears on the ground and your Wellness Committee close.

Will there be a scavenger hunt? Something that gets you moving? An opportunity to get creative?

You’ll have to wait and see…

Thanks for taking the time to read the first edition of Faircape Focus for 2026. This newsletter is a reflection of our community, which is rooted in purpose, progress, and people.
