GROWTH In Motion
Often, when we look back at our experiences in life, it’s not just about the roles we’ve held or the titles we’ve earned. It’s about the moments of learning, the challenges we’ve faced, and the courage it took me to step into something new.
Some of our colleagues have recently taken that step, moving into new roles and embracing fresh opportunities. It’s a chance to grow, to stretch themselves, and to make an even bigger impact in the work they do.
We’re proud to celebrate these milestones and the effort, dedication, and resilience that made them possible. Their journeys remind us that growth isn’t just about what you achieve; but about the journey, the lessons learned, and the inspiration it gives to everyone around you.
Congratulations to everyone taking on new challenges. Your growth is in motion, and it’s worth celebrating.
If you have a celebration outside of Faircape, tell us! We would like to celebrate with you.

Meet Cassandra Hagglund Senior Food Service Manager
A food combination that others might think is strange?
Peanut butter and celery.
What’s your comfort TV show or movie and why?
The Office - A lot of the humour comes from awkward situations.
What’s one thing you can’t work without?
Coffee - without a doubt.
What do you appreciate most about your team?
The diverse group of people from all walks of life that give their all everyday. They might not be perfect but they try everyday.
What piece of wisdom do you live by?
It costs nothing to be kind.
What’s one thing you can’t work without?
Earrings. I feel unfinished without them.
Meet Katinka Malan Administrative Manager
What food combination do you love that others might think is strange? Bovril, ham and cheese spread on toast. My whole office rolls their eyes, but I love it.
If your life had a theme song, what genre would it be?
Probably pop-rock, a bit energetic, a bit unpredictable, but it somehow works out.
What’s your comfort TV show or movie and why?
Hallmark movies. They’re predictable, easy to watch, and always have a happy ending.
What do you appreciate most about your team?
They genuinely care, and they’ve taught me a lot, especially about planning ahead and saving.
What piece of wisdom do you live by?
No matter how badly people treat you, always stay true to your character.
Meet Lauren Van Eck
Occupational Therapist Manager
If you had a superpower at work, what would it be?
The ability to magically locate missing equipment the moment someone says, “Has anyone seen where the wheelchair foot-plate went?”
What’s something you believed as a child that makes you laugh now?
When I was little, I genuinely believed that if the interior car light went on while we were driving at night… we’d immediately get arrested or end up distracting another driver so much they swerve off the road. The panic I felt if someone touched that switch was unmatched. Now I realise it was just peak parent drama, but honestly, the conviction in their voices deserved an award.
What’s one skill you’re secretly proud of?
I’m secretly very proud of my ability to read the room in under 10 seconds. Awkward silence? I’ve got a comment or a joke. Tension brewing? I’m already diffusing it with another joke. Meeting going off track? Subtle redirect activated with a better joke. It’s basically emotional Wi-Fi, I just connect automatically. All are welcome to hotspot near my fantastic humor.
If your work life was a soundtrack, what song are we listening to?
Probably Doomsday by Architects (heavy metal), because work sometimes feels like staring down a massive pile of tasks while thinking, “Okay, let’s go again”. It’s the kind of track that plays in my head when I switch from “I can handle this” to “I will finish this even if it takes pure determination and strong coffee.”
If you had to teach a 5-minute class on anything, what would it be about?
I would teach a 5-minute class on “How to Look Like You Have Your Life Together in Meetings Even When You Don’t.”
Topics would include: nodding thoughtfully while someone speaks, mastering the strategic “let me just write that down” moment, and the art of looking deeply concerned about something you definitely didn’t understand. Bonus section: how to smile and say, “That’s a great point,” when you need 30 seconds to process what was just said.
What’s something small that always makes your day better?
A genuine laugh with a colleague or patient, even just something small and unexpected. It’s a simple reminder that work isn’t only about tasks, but about the people and moments that make the day feel lighter.
Meet Jarrid Thompson Senior Food Service Manager
If you had a superpower at work, what would it be?
My superpower would be operational foresight or seeing the future - the ability to foresee situations in advance, allowing me to plan proactively, navigate challenges strategically, and prevent issues before they arise. This would enable me to stay ahead of potential obstacles, allocate resources effectively, and always ensure smooth, consistent operations rather than reacting to them.
What’s something you believed as a child that makes you laugh now?
I believed that life would be easy. Looking back now, I can laugh at that childhood assumption because reality has been full of challenges, unexpected twists, and lessons I never anticipated. Each setback, disappointment, and difficult moment has shaped me, teaching resilience, patience, and perseverance. Those experiences have strengthened my character, sharpened my problem-solving, and given me the confidence to face future challenges with determination.
What’s one skill you’re secretly proud of?
One skill I’m secretly proud of is cooking. I actually think I’m pretty good at it. I started learning in my early teens, and working in hospitality gave me the chance to continuously explore, experiment, and improve.
If your work life was a soundtrack, what song are we listening to?
If my work life was a soundtrack, I actually have two songs: “Hall of Fame” by The Script featuring Will.I.Am, and “Legendary” by Welshly Arms. Both capture the drive, determination, and energy I try to bring to every challenge, reminding me to push boundaries and aim high while striving to make a lasting impact.
If you had to teach a 5-minute class on anything, what would it be about?
If I had to teach a 5-minute class on anything, I would teach the importance of the 5 P’s: Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. I believe this principle is crucial in all aspects of work, as taking the time to plan, organize, and anticipate challenges not only reduces mistakes but also builds confidence, efficiency, and consistency. Proper preparation ensures that you’re ready for anything, turning potential obstacles into opportunities for smooth, successful outcomes.
What’s something small that always makes your day better?
Currently, it’s the appreciation I see in the faces and hear in the words of the residents and patients at the villages and facilities. I believe they have worked hard all their lives and now deserve the very best from us.
Seeing that gratitude reminds me why I do what I do, and it drives me to push my teams to approach every day with the same care, respect, and dedication.
A Little Something Before the Upcoming Long Weekend
The Easter weekend is around the corner and while everyone celebrates in their own way, one thing remains constant across Faircape: our commitment to employee wellbeing.
Our Wellness Committees across the facilities continue to invest time and care into hosting weekly initiatives that support connection, movement, creativity and learning.
That standard and the passion behind it will remain unchanged in 2026. With the long weekend approaching… Let’s just say: Keep your ears on the ground and your Wellness Committee close.
Will there be a scavenger hunt? Something that gets you moving? An opportunity to get creative?
You’ll have to wait and see…
