Situated at the bottom end of the engine, the Sump Pan in most cases takes the brunt of poor road conditions from Pot Holes to Salt and Grit. These external factors are the most common reasons to need to replace the Sump Pan. Speed Humps and Pavement Curbs are a very common cause for failure on Sump Pans, due to their location they usually receive numerous bumps and scrapes, and sometimes severe impact damage can occur leading to potentially costly engine repairs due to oil starvation. Newsletter 2017 Season Update ROUND 9 EuroSpeedway Lausitz
After a month-long summer break, Chaz Davies was finally back in action at EuroSpeedway Lausitz for the ninth round of the WorldSBK Championship. On a track where Ducati is the most successful manufacturer with 6 wins to date, erratic weather conditions characterized Fridays free-practice sessions: FP1 was dry, while FP2 was interrupted for a long time by heavy rains. Chaz Davies posted his personal best time with a 1:37.526, which granted him third position both in FP1 and the combined rankings, +0.354 seconds behind the provisional best time. Chaz once again took the top step of the podium in Race 1 at EuroSpeedway Lausitz (Germany), who thus clinched his fifth win of the season. After a hectic moment before the start due to a rear-brake issue, the Welshman kept his cool and got off to a strong start from sixth position on the grid. Second at the first corner, Davies took the lead in lap 2 and progressively pulled away by imposing a relentless pace in
the low 1:37 mark.

The rhythm was good, but there is still room for improvement ahead of Race 2.” - Chaz Davies After winning Race 1 on Saturday, the Welshman repeated the feat starting from ninth position. Quickly recovering ground thanks to a strong start, Davies pulled away and took the lead during lap 11. He then made one decisive charge with 5 laps to go, as a light rain started to fall, to take his sixth win of the year. “It was a great race and I loved every minute of it” Chaz Davies After nine rounds, Davies (276 points) is third in the championship. Chaz will be back in action at Portimão (Portugal) for the tenth round of the season, scheduled for September 15-17.

Newsletter FAI Tech Tips: Water Pump Installation The installation of a water pump has a significant effect on how the part functions and if fitted incorrectly, can lead to part failure. There are four main areas which should be considered above all when fitting a water pump.
Flushing
Flushing the coolant system is imperative to the fitment process as this clears mineral deposits from water, build up that accumulates from coolant breaking down, and excess residue. If an acidic flush is used it must be fully removed before adding coolant.

Coolant
Coolant is vital in the correct function of a water pump asm many failures occur as a result of incorrect coolant mixtures. Coolants should never be mixed and after flushing the correct coolant should be added.
Incorrect fitment
Excessive belt load is another area which often causes failure. If the vehicle has a manual adjust tensioner they are often set too tight, applying unneccesary strain on the water pump pulley. Installers must ensure that the correct tension is applied. When fitting the water pump, it must be secured ensuring that equal pressure is applied to each fastener. Uneven tightening will cause uneven contact on the fitting face and a potential leak. Below: Example of where sealant has been used and prevented the gasket from forming a tight seal.

Silicone
The use of silicone when there is a gasket/ O-ring actually prohibits it from sealing, as well as the possibility of causing seal damage which in turn causes it to leak. Sealant compromises the correct installation. It can cause misalignment of the water pump fitment and excess paste can find its way to the cooling circuit where it can cause extensive damage, We recommend NOT using sealant where a gasket is provided.
