Vehicle of the Month Audi Q3 - The Best Mid-sized SUV?
The Audi Q3 was the baby-SUV of the group for several years prior to the arrival of the Q2. Fending off rivals such as the BMW X1 and Range Rover Evoque, the German brand had to justify the options list which pushed many better spec’d Q3’s towards the 40K mark; and justify it they did! With the original X1 coming under some heavy criticism and the Evoque often pricier like-forlike, when compared to the Q3, the plus points of the Audi started winning new business within the segment.

The Q3 was, like so many Audi’s, an all rounder with little to complain about. If road presence, build quality and refinement were at the top of your shopping list then the Q3 ticked all your boxes. Firmly aimed at small family buyers, its easy to park proportions meant a trade-off in rear space; all-in-all not offering much more room than an A3 sportback. The high price and slightly cramped interior didn’t deter buyers from investing in one of the most desirable compact SUV’s on the market, with tens of thousands sold in the UK alone. The 1.4 TSi got a look-in towards the end of the Q3s’ life but the main draw was the fantastic 2.0 TDi; punchy, fuel efficient and full of torque for those full loads. It’s hard to believe the Q3 is almost 10 years old and therefore most have done substantial mileage. Check out some of our best sellers here!

The Life and Death of a Valve Cover Our story starts with Dave, who before heading home from work late one night, noticed a patch of oil on the ground under his engine bay. Thinking nothing of it, he fired up his Transit and began his journey down the familiar set of country roads he always used. After just five minutes of driving he realised something truly terrifying!... his beloved workhorse was smoking from under the bonnet and was running like a bag of spanners. How could this happen to his trusty 2.2 D that had served him so well?... Voodoo? A curse of some kind? Nah!, don’t be silly Dave, it’s the breather valve on your valve cover! Mike his trusty mechanic, quickly diagnosed the fault but then came the next shock to Dave’s system. The last time he’d had this problem was years ago, you just popped in a new valve but not anymore. Dave needed a whole new valve cover. Dun, dun, dunnnnn!!! Mike and the mechanics explained to Dave that the newer valves covers had integrated components so there was nothing that could be done for his old cover; it was as dead as a Dodo. Lucky for Dave that FAI can put an end to his nightmare with a selection of high-quality valve covers that come with bolts & gaskets where needed.

Sponsored Team Finish Season With A Bang!
This past weekend was the final round of the World Superbike Championship and we were tentatively waiting to see if Scott Redding would be able to clear the gap in the standings between himself and Rea (Kawasaki) to be crowned Superbike World Champion. Saturday morning started with a very dramatic Superpole for Redding, who managed to crash in the first lap. Although dominating all of Free Practice, he crashed in the first lap due to a high side. His team worked miracles and managed to get him back onto the track, but unfortunately not quick enough to cross the finish line before the chequered flag forcing him to start the race from the last position. R1. After a difficult start, Davies made an amazing comeback from Free Practice. His constant progression meant he overtook Rinaldi to move into P5, but he didn’t stop there. His race pace was improving lap by lap, allowing him to close gaps with Gerloff and Rea meaning that he managed to finish in P2 under the flag. Redding tried hard to push through from the back recovering eight positions in the first two laps. On lap six however, he was in P11 and unfortunately had to abandon the race due to technical issues. This means that Redding has ended his first season with Aruba.it Ducati in second place, a huge well done to him from FAI!
“In the race, there was a technical problem but starting from the last position it was really difficult to do something important. I want to congratulate Jonathan. It was a great battle, with a lot of respect. I will try again next season. I know I can do it. I never give up” Scott Redding R2. Starting from P4, Davies took the lead after the first two corners. It was an emotional race for him, as it was the last time racing for his team of seven years, but he did well and had a fantastic race. He secured P1 for the entirety of the race and comfortably came under the chequered flag to have his final victory for Aruba.it Ducati. Redding pushed hard in the early laps and immediately started chasing the leading group of riders, putting pressure on Rea (Kawasaki) who crashed on lap nine. Halfway through the race, Redding was 2.5 seconds behind the Turkish rider Razgatlioglu but he carried on pushing and with five laps to go, attacked through to take second place. The two guys did so well, taking P1 and P2 on the podium for their final race together. Scott Redding ends the 2020 WorldSBK season in second and Chaz Davies in third, with Ducati finishing second in the manufacturers’ standing, just one point behind Kawasaki.

He has achieved so much in the 7 years with the Italian team, demonstrating his spectacular artistry and love for the sport. Renault K9K - Ten Million and Going Strong
The K9k has been one of the most utilised small diesels of all time, having replaced the Renault 1.9 D in 2001. Jointly developed by Renault & Nissan, the original design has stayed much the same over the past 19 years, only tweaked to iron out some earlier gremlins and adhere to Euro standards. We don’t have to tell you how popular these units are, fitted to multiple manufacturers, including the slightly unlikely mating with Mercedes. A figure that may surprise you in that there have been 10 million units of the K9K produced around the world and still more coming off the production line.
