Team Aruba Take On Magny Cours - R11

Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, played host to the latest WSBK race. Built in the 1960s, the track contains a hidden quirk whereby many of the corners are direct copies of famous circuits from around the world, including chicanes from Imola and the Nurburgring. Competitors arrived in wet weather prior to Friday’s free practice sessions, producing slippery conditions which hampered all riders’ efforts but none more than Alvaro Bautista’s as he hadn’t ridden the circuit before. Fortunately, Saturday brought with it dryer conditions in time for race one. Bautista found his feet in the first few laps and with some added confidence he climbed the board from starting in 14th to a finishing place of 5th.

Sunday saw a determined Chaz push hard in both Superpole and race two, where he narrowly missed a podium slot by coming 4th in both events. Alvaro suffered the same fate as Chaz did in the first race by the way of an impact with Toprak on turn 13. Again, no one was injured yet both retired from the race. The results of round 11 have signalled the end to our hopes that Alvaro would be crowned 2019 champion; a feat that looked all too promising in the first half of the competition. He is however firmly in second and holds some impressive accolades from what is his first outing in WSBK. Team Aruba’s focus now turns to the penultimate round based in Argentina, 11-13th October.

Teammate Chaz Davies was preforming well within the leading pack but whilst fighting for second the Welshman made contact with fellow rider Razgatlioglu, bringing an end to Chaz’s race; thankfully without injury.

»Vehicle » of the Month Mercedes Citan 2013> Now at first glance, the Citan may appear to be yet another re-badging exercise with a distinctly French vibe about the place but there is a couple of important differences. The first and most important tweak to producing the Mercedes Posh-goo is the great big three-pointed star on the front; not only telling everyone that your business is a success but also likening the service you provide to a luxury brand – and legally too. The second is that despite the main componentry being carried over from the Kangoo, the German engineers have made changes to the interior and sound installation, which has won over customers looking for a more civilised affair. Whilst the Citan doesn’t better many of its rivals on load capacity it serves a purpose, a bit like that fancy tomato sauce that costs a bit extra but makes an every-day activity just a little nicer. Speaking of making an everyday activity nicer, why not buy FAI.

»»Engine of the Month M9R – Nissan, Renault & Opel/Vauxhall

Renault and Nissan have been an automotive alliance since the late 90’s. The sharing of platforms, technology and engineering paved the way for them to become the giant they are today; hitting sales in excess of 10 million units a year. GM almost joined the party a few years later but a deal couldn’t be reached, leaving smaller projects on the table… such as the Vivaro powered by the M9R. Every large manufacturer required a midrange diesel to rival the tide of TDi’s and CDi’s and so on, flooding the market. The M9R was it!... fitted to anything from a family hatch to a range of highly popular vans; in either two- or four-wheel guise.

Opel/Vauxhall distanced the relationship with Renault-Nissan by keeping the CDTi suffix; a contributing reason to why people thought it was a French powerplant fitted to the first 2.0 CDTi Insignia’s. Spanning over a decade of use, this 2.0 ltr four-pot has been tweaked along the way, producing over 40 unique engine codes. A list that looks pretty baffling at first glance, is simplified by the fact that most hardware was carried from model to model despite the manufacturer. The M9R certainly falls within the ‘workhorse’ bracket of engines and as a result, is worked on more than a British motorway. Long story short, you need the parts – we got the parts.
