Vehicle of the Month Volkswagen Polo 2017>
The Polo has been around for 45 years, first launched in 1975, making it one of the longestrunning models in automotive history. The small German offering has gathered an almost cultlike following with parents passing on their fond memories of what was their first car. Words such as solid, dependable and safe convinced the next generation of young drivers and small families to invest in a Polo – even the hideous multi-coloured one released in the ’90s, yikes! Now in its sixth generation, the Polo has grown out of all original proportion, making it on par with the Golf Mk5 in terms of size – a trend seen across the industry – how else would you make room for the UP?

Important Announcement FAI are proud to announce that Jonathan Alexander, FAI’s commercial director has been appointed Managing Director of FAI Automotive. Being with the company for 18 years, Jonathan initially led the sales force but in recent years has taken responsibility for key areas of the business. As a board member, he oversaw day-to-day operations and significantly contributed to shaping a thriving organization. Working tirelessly throughout the Covid crisis, Jonathan played a key part in keeping the business in good stead for the months ahead and ensuring FAI met customer needs. Many of you will already know Jonathan as his previous roles kept him in close contact with customers. “I’m proud to be a part of the FAI Automotive heritage and within an industry, I’m so passionate about. Getting to know customers and their business needs has given me invaluable knowledge that I’m sure to utilise in this next leg of my career. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and rest assured, as your supplier we will do whatever we can to help you prosper. I’d also like to thank Sean Walker for this opportunity and as a longterm mentor”

Sean Walker will now move from Managing Director to Chairman of the Board, having held the position of MD for over 20 years. The distinguished position of Chairman was held by Sean’s father, Ian Walker - the founder of FAI, until 2008. Whilst at the helm, Sean guided the business to new heights; vastly expanding product ranges, stock holding and a global customer base. “Leading FAI has been an honour and a privilege. I’ve seen a significant change in the industry over the years, bringing with it new challenges, which as a team we overcame. I strived to develop the FAI brand both in the UK market and throughout Europe with the introduction of strong product ranges such as Steering & Suspension and Timing Chain Kits. I have every faith in Jonathan, and I’m sure he’ll continue the momentum of FAI’s success into the future – I wish him the best of luck”

Engine of the Month
PSA 1.6i EP6C - With a little BMW thrown in.
The EP6C sits firmly in the middle of a series of engines designed by PSA, with the added help of BMW that would also benefit from a new 4-cylinder petrol unit. The family was designated as the ‘Prince’ engine with a 1.4, 1.6 & 1.6T making up the range. All of which can be found in popular Citroens, Peugeots and Minis from 2005 onwards. The unlikely tie-up between PSA and BMW would have many drivers of premium products unaware that the Peugeot 208 sitting next to them at the traffic lights had the same engine. The 1.4 was a bit lacklustre so it fell on the 1.6 120PS naturally-aspirated EPC6 to fill the void between the 1.4 and the 1.6T.

One of the common issues with the engine is the failure of both timing chains and tensioners. FAI have a selection of repair kits depending on the repair needed, all designed to the latest OE configuration. Our most comprehensive kit is TCK129VVTOCV which includes VVT hubs and oil control valve. The sheer amount of popular vehicles the mid-range powerplant was assigned to has generated a large parts demand and with the unit in use until 2016, it shows no slowing. As always, FAI has a great selection on offer.
