...this stunning looking car actually cornered with the finesse of, well...a Jaguar! ...
The X-type had struggled to stand up to its German counterparts, whereas the S-Type carried with it an age rating of over 55’s only. Now, despite some slightly questionable interior options, on the whole, the XF looked the part; much to the surprise of a large customer segment of discerning executive buyers. Then came the expert reviews, and to everyone’s amazement, this stunning looking car actually cornered with the finesse of, well...a Jaguar! The brand even responded to customer demand for a less thirsty powerplant than the stock 3.0 D, leading to the introduction of the 2.2 D in 2012. However, it wasn’t only the practical elements that Jaguar covered; they also made each customer feel wonderfully catered for from the minute they slip into the leather-clad seats. The keyless start is activated by a red pulsating start/stop button and once pressed the hidden vents then rotate to reveal themselves. Some say gimmick, we say Oooh! Ironically these large saloons are often only carrying the driver and therefore interiors are usually kept very tidy, leading to long ownership, but as with most executive cars they’re bought for big mileage. To sum up the XF; Popular car + Long ownership x High Miles = Huge parts demand!

»»Engine of the Month Hyundai / Kia 2.5 D4CB - A.K.A The Lemon! Novembers EOTM is a bit of a curveball in the form of the Hyundai/Kia 2.5 CRDi, fitted initially to early 2000’s models but still utilised in models around the world today – believe it or not!
Depending on where you are in the world, this will dictate where you’ll find the D4CB however, it was fitted to a multitude of vehicles; including popular models such as the Sorento, H-100, i800 and iLoad.
This powerplant became a staple for the Korean brand where some heavy lifting was involved, and a torquey diesel was required. Admittedly the 100 HP versions needed a good hill to run down to overtake even a cyclist however the later engines were tuned to various outputs culminating in a 170 HP version which was much better to drive.
The D4CB may be old now and a bit of a lemon but is far from forgotten! FAI still has you covered

»»WSBK Closing Rounds
Sponsored Riders Battle Hard For The Podium The penultimate round saw riders cross the Atlantic for a much warmer climate in sunny Argentina. The San Juan Villicum Circuit finished only last year, played host to an interesting weekend of racing; including two podiums for FAI sponsored team Aruba.it.

The track conditions were hot and sandy, causing concern for riders whilst in practice sessions; a concern that grew leading up to the first race, resulting in six riders boycotting proceedings. Despite Chaz Davies being included in the six who didn’t take part, his teammate Alvaro Bautista took on a mixture of difficult conditions and an unfamiliar circuit. After an initial battle with season champ Rea, the Spaniard put some space between them and held the lead until the chequered flag. Day two thankfully brought with it cooler weather and an opportunity for both riders to participate in the days’ events.
Teams then travelled over 8500 miles from Argentina to Qatar to test their metal at the Losail International Circuit.
Chaz finished the Superpole in fourth, a couple of spots behind Alvaro who managed 2nd. Chaz was hemmed in by riders early on which hampered the Welshman’s efforts to dominate the race. Chaz pushed hard to work his way up the pack, manoeuvring his way in to 2nd, yet still 5 seconds of Rea; a valiant effort which notched up another podium position for rider and team.
Thankfully Bautista had gathered experience of the Losail International circuit through his days in Moto GP; an element that he’d been lacking in recent rounds. The coastalbased track adds a different dimension to proceedings by running night races, which has been possible since the circuit was fitted with permanent outdoor floodlighting in 2007. Race one saw Bautista get off to a less than perfect start but recovered in later laps, only just missing out on a podium placement by coming 4th.
The 2019 WorldSBK championship is over, but looking back, it’s been one of the most exciting tournaments we’ve ever witnessed. Newcomer to team Aruba.it and WSBK itself Alvaro Bautista, came out swinging by winning 11 consecutive races. At the halfway point he looked undefeatable, however, following some minor collisions and technical setbacks in later races, the Spanish rider has had to settle for championship 2nd place. This is by no means an easy feat for his opening season; an achievement that we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Alvaro on and thank him for providing so much world-class racing.

The second race of the weekend saw both Aruba riders chasing down the championship winner Jonathan Rea. Bautista pushed hard in the initial laps, even stealing the lead at one point but putting the Panigale V4 R though its paces took its toll on tyre wear leading to the skilled Spaniard easing off a little. As a result, the lead was retaken by Rea leaving Bautista in third when the flag came down. We now bid Alvaro a fond farewell as he continues his career in pastures new. Chaz Davies finished the season by riding a fantastic set of races leading to his appearance on the podium twice; both times in second place. The Welshman started race one on the backfoot by starting proceedings sitting in twelfth on the grid. He wowed fans with blisteringly quick opening lap, where he jumped eight places. Taking himself and hardware to the limit he eventually tucked in behind the race lead – Kawasaki’s Rea. Race two saw Davies join in the chase for podium position along with Bautista. Whilst Alvaro lost ground, Chaz took the opportunity to slip past and seal his standing for what has been a very positive closing round. FAI has proudly sponsored Chaz for the last three seasons and although he has had a challenging 2019 season, he never stopped striving to make improvements for each and every round. We’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate Chaz on the respectable Championship position of 6th. Will 2020 see Chaz crowned WSBK champion?... We certainly hope so! The 2020 Ducati line-up has been confirmed as an all British affair by featuring yet another of MotoGP’s rider – Scott Redding. Joining Chaz for his seventh consecutive year, Redding beginning his career in his early teens, chalking-up experience in Moto2 & five seasons of MotoGP. We’ll look forward to the wealth of talent he brings and welcome another exciting year of racing.
