»»COVID-19 Update Dear Customer, Slowly but surely the threat that Covid19 has posed to our health and industry is gradually easing. Reports from the RAC have shown that traffic on UK roads has returned to near pre-lockdown figures. A clear and encouraging signal that normality is returning and with it, a step in the right direction for all business. Whilst we have been open throughout this difficult time, we have, like many other companies strived to provide our loyal customer base with an essential service. As mentioned in our previous update, sales are growing steadily and therefore we are hoping to welcome back the remaining FAI team in the coming weeks & months. This will help provide the high level of support and expertise that you benefited from prior to this unprecedented crisis. Please do not think that FAI has forgotten the risk still posed by the pandemic. We will continue the safeguarding practises implemented at the start of the crisis, ensuring the arrival of your parcel, on time and from a clean environment. »Vehicle » of the Month Toyota-Auris: Prius in Disguise The E18 Auris sold for more than six years having gone on sale back in 2012. As with most Toyota hatchbacks, it never ‘cut the mustard’ with the likes of Ford, Vauxhall and PSA, who coined most sales across Europe in this segment. The Auris did have a trick up its sleeve though, in the form of the Prius hybrid drive train, which accounted for the majority of sales. The way the Auris transforms into Toyotas’ bestselling Prius (albeit, only on the inside) was a lifesaver for what may have been a bigger flop than the fifth film. Although you could get petrol & diesel versions that were comparable to those sold by the mainstream, Toyota needed this trump card, something that no one else was offering; at least not in that price range. Despite some questionable interior plastics, the kind you might find given away with a famous fast-food kids meal, the Auris was actually a good car – bettering the previous gen in all areas. The Japanese brand is renowned for its reliability, especially the petrol hybrid set up used in so many of its cars – Damn you Toyota and your brilliant engineers! But one area that they couldn’t engineer their way out of, was the beating most European roads would give the suspension. Lucky for you then, FAI makes much better components than Hollywood makes movie sequels. Here to save the day – FAI’s Steering & Suspension!

»»Engine Evolution How do FAI keep up with demand? We’re all aware of the large quantity of variants in engine families such as VW’s 2.0 TDi CR and while based on an original platform, they have changed significantly over time as they’re modernised. Some have gone from belt-driven to chain, whilst others have opted for cam assembly style set-ups from an independent arrangement - seen in earlier productions. FAI has strived to keep a current database of all variants and the associated parts, identifying any redesigns, new products to bring to market and to link our current product range to. Range Extension Highlights

COMING JULY

The FAI product team have been at it again, adding more products to range. This time in the form of 50 new oil pumps. Many will be available as of next month, including some of the exciting highlights listed here. Don’t worry, as always you’ll be the first to know when they launch. A pump that will interest many of you is the OP378AUX, fitting VW groups’ 1.8 / 2.0 TSi. This essential component proforms the function of constant pressurised lubrication to the cam bearings and variator. A very fine mesh shields the top end from debris, becoming clogged over time, especially if not reguarly serviced. FAI, therefore, recommends this part be replaced when performing any Timing or cam-train repair.

Renault, Nissan, Opel, Vauxhall G9U / G9T In 2001 the baton was passed from the G8T generation of engines to the G9T (2.2) & G9U (2.5); the latter of which was used in a couple of application from as early as 1999. This new line-up was to be in service for over a decade until the M9R succeeded them. The big difference was in the form of the fuelling system, with a new common rail set up which boosted efficiency and power, predominantly aimed at a multi-brand selection of workhorses. The Traffic, Primastar and Vivaro accounted for the lion-share of G9U usage, but wherever the duo of engines was utilised there was one common theme; they were worked hard! Often the vans are used in stop-start deliveries that took its toll and if painted a shade of white were usually rallied from one destination to another. As always with large vehicles, in whichever guise they may be modelled in to – van, minibus or camper, it almost always makes sense to repair rather than replace. FAI has a great selection of high-quality heads, gaskets and valve train products, to get that next delivery to where it’s going with a smile.
