Always an honour and never a chore… We have enjoyed yet another successful Autopromotec show, held in the picturesque city of Bologna. As always, we relished in entertaining our existing loyal customers, however, we also meet some new faces too; all of which were excited to meet one of the FAI sponsored World Super Bike stars, Chaz Davies. The Welsh rider was on the stand along with his brand-new Panigale V4 R super-bike. In between all the business that was going on everyone made time to chat with Chaz and to receive a signed WSBK poster, exclusive to FAI. Our newly designed stand showcased an array of FAI parts, including some of our latest Chain Kits, Valve Train and Steering & Suspension components. We also enjoyed talking through some of our newer product lines such as FAI Vibration Dampers and Engine Bearings. Another highlight in the FAI calendar has come to an end but we’ll be back next year with more to offer than ever. Team Spotlight
Product manager - Farid Davarpanah Farid, a new member of the FAI team, will be managing one of our earliest product groups; engine sealing. Farid’s love of vehicles and the aftermarket means that he fits in nicely with the FAI ethos.

»»The Ups ‘n’ Downs of Imola Round 5 Proves Most Difficult So Far
The fifth round of the championship has seen some highs and lows for FAI sponsored Aruba.it. The dynamic duo made up of Chaz Davies and Alvaro Bautista got off to a great by pulling in some quick lap times in Fridays’ free practice session. Chaz came second with an impressive set of times for the morning session which he bettered in the afternoon by four-tenths of a second. Bautista, despite not being as familiar with the northern Italian circuit got some essential practice and came a respectable 4th. The Superpole held on Saturday continued the good feeling in both riders with Chaz and Alvaro taking 1st and 3rd; sitting either side of Rea who came 2nd.

Race 1 After such a positive start, the riders were gearing up for race one, where Bautista was lined up along with Chaz and Jonathan Rea on the front row. Once the race got underway the Spaniard chased the Kawasaki rider until the finish line but was unable to better a finishing place of 2nd; the first time this season he hasn’t taken the top spot. “For sure it hasn’t been easy to learn the track in just a few sessions, and in addition the race pace today was very high. At the start I tried to follow Jonathan but I struggled to keep his pace. Nevertheless, I’m happy because today we scored the best possible result” -Alvaro Bautista

Our hearts went out to Chaz, when early in the race he was clearly having difficulties with his Panigale V4 R. By turn four he had no choice but to admit defeat.
“I’m massively disappointed because I saw today as a big opportunity. I felt a big improvement with the bike from yesterday, the crew did a fantastic job and we made another step forward… It seemed like an electrical problem, because the bike lost power coming out of turn 4 and Johnny overtook me. It’s a pity, I’ll try and get a good result tomorrow but the weather doesn’t look so good.” – Chaz Davies Sundays’ ten-lap Superpole saw another double podium for the Aruba team, with Chaz and Alvaro taking 2nd & 3rd respectively; both unable to catch Rea. During the race, Chaz darted from 3rd to second, passing his teammate and in the process breaking yet another lap record.
Race 2 Just after the Superpole, the heavens opened and deposited a large amount of rain over the track. Race officials sent riders around with a safety car before lining up on the grid, however, the decision was taken to cancel the race. A decision that was backed by the majority of riders.
“It’s a bit of a shame we never got the chance to do race 2 here at Imola but unfortunately in the wet this track has quite a few limits... It was the right decision, but I’m sorry for all the fans who stayed here in the rain all afternoon just to see us race… I go home from Imola knowing that I’ve made a lot of progress in view of the next races.” - Chaz Davies The next bout isn’t for a few weeks yet, set for the 7-9th June. For round six we’re returning to Spain, this time to the southern track of Jerez; with just 7mm of rain on average for the time of year, we should be ok on that score!

»Vehicle » of the Month BMW 2 Series 2014> If you think the 1 series is a bit too plain-jane and the 4 series three inches too long, then have no fear the 2 series is here! For all those naysayers who thought that another BMW model was a step too far, the Germanic brand has proved you wrong, again; full disclosure, we were some of those who scoffed at the idea. The 2 series is as predictable as a sandwich from Pret, good quality and classy but similarly gives you a good firm kick in the wallet. Buyers have become expectant of certain BMW attributes such as build quality, great handling and finely tuned engines; all of which create an appealing offering when wrapped up in the neat contours of a small coupe.
The 2 series has filled a gap that few knew existed, but the sales figures have steadily increased throughout Europe and beyond. Our product team closely monitor vehicle parc data and emerging trends in the market and as a result, we began stocking parts for the 2 series as the first of them left the hands of dealers. BMW’s like many other brands have a tendency of keeping a front end that only differs slightly from model to model, so maybe only a view from the side will make you say, “oh, it’s a 2 series”.

 FAI Vibration Dampers Fast Moving Dampers Added to Range!
FAIs’ range of Vibration Dampers compliments the existing range of engine bottom end repair products already offered. The initial range has been expanded to over 140 part numbers, covering all important and popular applications; with many of the popular numbers available as kits, which include fitting bolts & washers. FVDs (FAI Vibration Dampers) are the pulleys found at the front end of the crankshaft and are responsible for driving ancillary items such as A/C compressors, power steering pumps and water pumps. The FVD is responsible for absorbing the vibrations caused by the pistons firing, which sends vibrations through the crank and other engine parts, to minimise the damaging effects of these vibrations and prolong engine operating life. Each pulley in the FAI range are made to OE specification and include the rubber harmonic damper element of the construction. Other aftermarket alternatives have the rubber damper removed from the pulley; which almost certainly increases crank bearing wear, and could lead to early failure of the crank or crank bearings. As a result, we recommend that only a pulley with a harmonic damper is fitted.

If you liken a V8 engine to Mike Tyson in his prime, then the notion of a 1.0 ltr, 3 cylinder is like Boris Johnson stepping into the ring!... Isn’t it?
In just a few years it has become the goto engine where diesel power isn’t needed, selling in its hundreds-of-thousands across Europe and beyond.
No, it’s actually very good, being fuel efficient and dare we say it, quite lively; giving the feeling of a much bigger engine. This peppy little unit has been fitted to larger vehicles such as the Focus but is really punching above its weight here. The Fiesta is a better match, with its lighter more agile chassis.
Depending on spec, the baby powerplant pushes out up to 123 HP, which is a lot to ask of a 3 cylinder and as a result needs to be revved to get the most out of it (aka. It needs ragging!). FAI is firmly in the Ecoboosts’ corner though, offering a great selection of parts to get them fighting-fit again.
