»»COVID-19 Update Dear Customer, Since our last update, we have seen further steps taken towards normality with the introduction of the 1m rule. We believe that this move has been welcomed by the public, giving added confidence to conduct day-to-day business more freely. This, combined with the return to work for many and that 2020 is set to become the ultimate ‘staycation’ year, means traffic will increase across the country. Most of you will be aware that MOT testing will resume as of 1st August, which will surely result in added demand for parts. FAI has maintained high stock levels of essential Steering & Suspension throughout the lockdown, in fact, we have added over 100 new part numbers during this time. We know you will want to meet your customer demands and rest assured; FAI is the perfect supplier to ensure your business achieves that goal. As mentioned in our June message, we are working hard to increase staff levels to be one step ahead of demand and have therefore welcomed back all but a few staff to the business. This has resulted in the continuation of services and all-important range development, including 49 new & exciting oil pumps that we highlight in this month’s edition. The C-Class W204: More of a Golf than a Golf!
If the top three German executive saloons were compared to sporting events, the A4 would perhaps be a game of rugby – strong and planted. The 3 Series a football match – precise, poised, and athletic. Whereas the C-Class resembling that of a golf tournament – relaxed, refined and conducted with graceful style. But was the C-Class purely style over substance? On paper at least, the C-Class is a hard sell compared to the opposition, despite this, it sold in high number none the less. Why? Well, having listened to their customers regarding the many grumbles they had about the outgoing model, Mercedes set about levelling the playing field with the W204. Gone was the aging looks & tech of the W203, replaced with something vastly more modern. Build quality was greatly improved which, being a major issue with the W203, was well received by die-hard merc fans who could once again boast about its German build quality; something Mercedes took a step further with when they introduced the 2011 facelift. These improvements gave a robust feel that came together with the supple suspension, providing a comfortable and refined motorway companion. In terms of aesthetics, this generation of C-Class was a hole-in-one, featuring a statement front end that brandished a huge three-pointed star, coupled with sharp lines that run to the rear, giving the car a well-proportioned look from any angle. The C-Class now appealed to a broader audience than ever before, namely a younger one, which produced an enormous amount of W204s’ on European roads. We’ve got a soft spot for the C-Class, can you tell? But this is by no means the reason for stocking so many parts for this sporty little number. Owners love them and keep them for years, generating a long-lasting demand for quality parts. Here’s the usual selection of fast movers with more online.

»»Engine of the Month Ford 1.0 T Ecoboost
Now we all remember the story of David and Goliath, where cleverness and concentrated power won over the brawn of something much larger. Well, in this story, the 1.0T Ecoboost is David. We now live in a world of increasingly larger cars yet powered by ever-decreasing sized engines. The rough sound of a three-cylinder engine was a rarity during the late ‘90s & 2000s but in recent years even the likes of BMW have ventured into, what was once thought to be, the unthinkable. Now with the addition of a turbo, there are very little downsides compared to their much larger naturally aspirated counterparts. Ford was one of the first to lead the charge, replacing the ‘go-to’ 1.6i used in the Focus & C-Max, with a frugal and low CO2 three-pot. The peppy little engine, tuned anywhere from 100hp to 125hp has been utilised throughout Fords’ range; including the slightly questionable application of the Mondeo. It looks like 3 cylinders lumps are here to stay, which given their green credentials and versatility, we can see why. There are now hundreds of thousands of the baby Ecoboosts’ in circulation that need maintaining. Ford seems set to tweak rather than replace the 1.0T within its latest model placements, giving weight to the idea that this powerplant will be utilised for over a decade.
