Automechanika Dubai Where better than Automechanika Dubai to meet-up with our existing customers, based around the Middle East and Northern Africa. It was a natural investment to host an FAI stand in Dubai, especially as our market share has grown beyond Europe in recent years; a direct result of our expansion programme. It was fantastic to see an interest in our array of displayed products and to discuss what we offer to a broad range of potential clients. This was made easier with the help of Product Manager â€“ Farid Davarpanah, who is fluent in Farsi and able to greet Iranian delegates. Dubai never fails to impress, especially at night where the dazzling architecture is brought to life; providing the perfect backdrop to get to know our customers a little more over dinner. Weâ€™d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came to see us and will look forward to future business together.

»»The Halfway Point... From the rain-drenched tarmac of Imola to Jerez, where the sun was out and rapidly scorching the Spanish track ahead of proceedings. After the disappointment of the last round having been cut short, the ‘Boys in Red’ were ready to get back in the saddle. Alvaro Bautista got off to a positive start in the opening day by setting yet another fastest lap of 1.39.428, during the freepractice sessions. Chaz battled away but despite his best efforts wasn’t able to better 11th place. Struggling throughout the first race, Chaz was unable to hunt down the leading pack. The Welshman improved his starting position of 11th by pushing as hard as he could and passing a few fellow competitors; securing 7th when the flag came down. Bautista started from the front, a position he fought for in lap one, however, he set a pace far off the other riders, leaving a full 7 seconds between his finishing place of 1st and the next fastest man. Bautista looked to be the favourite to win the second race too as he notched up his 13th podium of the season in the earlier Superpole. Unfortunately, though, this notion was dashed when at the end of the first lap, the Spaniard crashed out on turn one. In true fighting-spirit he re-joined the action but to no avail. Faced with the impossible task of making up 7 laps, Alvaro couldn’t meet the minimum distance, therefore scoring zero points for the first time this season. Unbelievably, Chaz was to suffer the same fate as he made contact with Melandri during lap six. Both riders thankfully walked away from the smash, but neither were able to restart. A sad moment for Chaz as he had been doing well when the incident occurred; with both riders vying for 4th place.

s g n i t m e o e r o r f n G a s Mi Round 7, the halfway point and another iconic Italian circuit to contend with. On arrival at the coastal track, teams were met with high temperatures although, with rain forecast for Saturday, the decisions on race set-up would prove tricky for most. Chaz Davies & Alvaro Bautista were third and eighth respectively in the first two free practice sessions; both struggling to find the grip needed to improve their lap times.

Bautista was brimming with confidence following the Superpole which he dominated but the wind was soon taken out of his sails when early on in the race, he lost control of the front end. Determined to finish, the Spaniard hopped straight back on, although he couldnâ€™t better 14th.

Race one was a bit disjointed due to heavy downpours which delayed the start and then interrupted riders during the race with sections of the track red-flagged as conditions worsened. Despite these distractions and the race being shortened to 20 laps, both Alvaro and Chaz secured respectable positions. Davies started from 9th where he soon pounded up the leader board to fourth; encountering a few issues later on in the race, he was in 5th when the flag came down. Bautista got off to a shaky start but settled into the race during the second half, managing to score a podium position of third.

Alvaro is still the championship leader but by a narrow margin as Rea closes the gap. The next round is almost here; where the riders will be England bound for the Donington Park Circuit.

Unfortunately, day two was to prove difficult for both Aruba riders, with a combination of crashes and problems with grip & stability. Chaz lost control on the third lap of the Superpole but managed to re-join the proceedings, only to come 17th. The Welshman continued to struggle with grip issues going in to the second race, resulting in 7th place.

ÂťVehicle Âť of the Month Audi A1 2010> Big car feel, wrapped up in a small package Is the A1 an expensive Polo or an overpriced Ibiza or even an extortionately priced Fabia? At first glance youâ€™d be tempted to agree to one or all of these, especially as all four superminis share the same underpinnings but the A1 sets its self apart the minute you step into the cabin. Surrounded in squidgy plastics and fitted with nicely weighted controls all add to the feeling this is less of a posh version of the Polo and more of a standard Audi; just in miniature. The build quality is also reminiscent of the class above which leaves you wondering if the other VAG manufacturers had a few nuts & Bolts left over. As with so many cars with quality interiors, someone had to pay for the privilege and therefore a demand for quality parts is generated to help keeping that investment on the road. Those aforementioned shared underpinnings are good for both distributor and customer; resulting in massive stockholdings here at FAI. So many in fact we had to list more than usual!
