»Vehicle » of the Month Citroen DS3 2010 - 2015 The words stylish and Citroen have rarely been used in the same sentence but around 2010 that all changed with the introduction of the letters DS; or should we say the re-introduction. Through the 50’s, 60s and into the 70s there were variations of the original Citroen DS which launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1955. During the show, the French brand took a record breaking 80,000 deposits; a record that stood for more than 60 years. Roll on a few decades and Citroen once again invoked some of the same excitement in the form of the DS3, 4 & 5; with the DS3 pulling in by far the most sales. For buyers in the market for a small modern hatch, the DS3 fitted the bill nicely, being fun to drive, fun to look at and with low running costs - fun to own too. This quirky little French number stopped models like the MINI having all the fun! Ignoring the fairly awkward access into the rear by being solely offered as a 3-door, once back there it beats the MINI hands down on space and comfort for rear passengers. This trend continues to luggage space, offering a 285-litre boot; more than double of some of its rivals. The DS3 sold like ‘hot -cakes’ and so are these parts!

»» Serious Business FAI Sponsored ‘Force Atlantic’ Still Going Strong! If you missed this story back in November, then here’s a quick catch up. FAI has sponsored the first Army team to compete in the world’s toughest rowing challenge; the ‘Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge’ is a 3000-mile expedition spanning the breadth of the Atlantic. The four-man crew will be competing against 14 other teams in their category. Having started in the Canary Islands on the 12th December, they will hope to see Antigua towards the end of January. While we were all chowing down on turkey and mince pies, these brave souls were 900 miles into the race, drinking desalinated seawater and not a hot meal insight. The most recent GPS signal puts them in 5th place, having surpassed the halfway marker several days ago. With just hours between them and the leading teams, this is where the race starts to hot-up. To put this into perspective, the leading vessel is just 0.2 knots faster on average!

With the support of FAI and other sponsors, the 9m x 2m vessel was packed out with high tech equipment to enable such a long, unsupported ocean voyage. This isn’t an undertaking for the faint-hearted, testing physical and mental stamina to the limits. But if there is one thing our guys know, it’s how to train – Hard!! The all-male crew, based at the Army Foundation College Harrogate are not only competing for personal achievement but to support the ABF charity by pledging to raise 100k. ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is the national charity of the British Army, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families when they are in need.

»»Engine of the Month BMW N47D20 2007 - 2015 Firstly, we love the N47D20! Casting your mind back to 2007 when it debuted, it was one of, if not the most impressive 2.0 litre diesel lump on the market; further widening the gap between BMW and other prestige brands such as Mercedes and Jaguar. Efficient, frugal and quick, the N47 was mated with almost all offerings from the German car giant. What could go wrong? ...Ahem, anyone need a timing chain kit? The sales of the 2.0d in its various states of tune surpassed expectations and so, between 2007 – 2015, a million of units were distributed throughout Europe. The N47 turned vehicles like the 3 Series into the ultimate ‘have your cake and eat it’, giving Golf GTi’s a run for their money but did 60 to the gallon!
