Q: Why do you supply
some of your Mercedes Timing Chain Kits with split chains and others with endless chains?
A: Our kits are supplied
with the same chain design that OE offer. Split chains are supplied 8
when it is not possible to install an endless chain due to the engine design. Note : When installing a split link the correct installation tool(s) must be used to ensure the integrity of the chain is not compromised. Not to use the correct tool(s) will cause failure and invalidate any warranty.
Q: Why won’t the engine start after replacing the Timing Chain?
A: If the camshafts are
hollow tube design, the lobes and sprockets are fitted in the factory using a precision turned FAI Focus January 2018
thread. This locks the lobe/sprocket into a preset position. However, if the engine suffers a catastrophic timing failure (Timing Chain or Timing Belt snapping) the immense force applied to the camshaft during this episode can cause the lobes/sprocket to move by a few degrees. Undetectable by the naked eye, but enough to take the engine out of synchronisation/timing. In these instances the old camshafts must be replaced, as they are not repairable.

Q: Why do I still have

Mercedes-Benz 2.1 CDI OM 651.940 The OM651 is a family of inlinefour-cylinder Diesel engines introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2008. The chief goal was to create a common engine design that maximised the parts commonality between the engines manufactured by parent company, Daimler. One requirement of the design was the ability of the engine to be mounted both longitudinally or

transversely. Improved fuel efficiency and compliance with Euro 5 emission standards were also design objectives, with Euro 6 standards being achieved by 2010. Although all engines have the same 2,143 cc swept volume, engines with various power outputs are produced ranging from 120 ps (badged x180) through 170 ps (badged x220) to 204 ps (badged x250).

The 170 ps and 204 ps versions employ a twin-turbo charger with a small, high pressure turbo providing quick boost at low RPM and a large, lower pressure turbo providing increased performance at higher RPM. The 100kW lower output version has only a single turbocharger.
