»Vehicle » of the Month Toyota Prius 2008 - 2015 The taxi drivers’ favourite – yep, the Prius has sold in droves since its’ launch! (for a hybrid that is). Such is their popularity; they hold value like no other regular car, but why? Simply put, it’s diesel economy without the downsides of expensive fuelling systems and the possibility of being banned from a city centre for being a ‘dirty diesel’. Some 11-year-old examples of the Prius we found for sale have clocked in excess of 180,000 miles yet still hold 20% of their value from new. For those that were more likely to be Taxiing around the kids, deciding to purchase a Prius was one of conscience and/or money-saving; with the added kudos for being some of the first to jump on the ‘green’ wagon. Claimed fuel economy figures of 94 mpg pricked the ears of most savvy family buyers, coupled with free road tax, it was an easy choice. Adding together all the facts & figures along with its practicality it was a winner for sensible family buyers; throw in a plug-in version in 2012 and there was no stopping the Japanese green machine.

»»Smashed it! FAI Sponsored ‘Force Atlantic’ Arrive in Just 37 days! They’ve only gone and done it! The team of four Army personnel, who before this undertaking wouldn’t describe themselves as rowers have blitzed across the Atlantic in just over 37 days; coming 6th in their category. The sight of land signalled the end to an epic journey that we’re sure has bonded life-long friendships. However, we’re equally sure that having spent every waking hour together, the guys will be looking forward to some alone time once back in the UK! Averaging a very respectable 2.8 knots, the 3000 mile trip has been a superb effort from all involved. We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate ‘Force Atlantic’ in their amazing feat and a big well-done for all the charity funds raised for the ABF (The soldiers’ charity). Here at FAI, we’ve been following their every move via the GPS tracker, not just in devoted support but also due to a company-wide sweepstake. They came in over a week sooner than the average guess of 45 days; making one lucky employee a bit richer.

»»Engine of the Month 2.2 TDCi (DRFF) 2012> The Transit has become somewhat of an icon in the light commercial arena; so much so that its’ probably the only van model that 99% of people can name.

Launched in 1965, it has become the bestselling van in history, with a whopping 8 million sold worldwide. The base transit has been modified in many ways over the years to accommodate almost every need, including a couple of whacky versions that you won’t have seen on the road. The best of all being the Ford-built Transit Limousine that was commissioned to celebrate winning international van of the year.

The rise in popularity of torquey turbo diesels served the transit well.
