Ducati Aruba Racing Team Sponsorship FAI 2017 Brand Ambassador, Chaz Davies treated us to a spectacular season of extreme highs and lows (including injuries) in the previous WorldSBK series. Riding for Aruba.it on the Ducati Panigale, Chaz rocketed to 2nd position overall in last years championship, proving that he was the perfect representative of our brand. Broadcasted as part of the exciting 2018 launch and livery reveal at the Aruba data centre in Milan, FAI are proud to announce that we have increased our involvement with the aruba.it racing team and are now official sponsors of the entire team.

Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri are back for 2018 having spent much of their “down time” prepping for the upcoming season. Michael Rinaldi who claimed the World Superstock 1000 title is a welcome addition to the Ducati WSBK family, forming Aruba.it Racing – Junior team. The 22 year old will be competing in all European rounds which will bring an interesting dynamic to some of the most anticipated races. In usual Chaz style, the Welshman has bounced back from yet another bout of injury, this time from a knee sprain, picked up on day one of testing in Jerez (November 2017).

Fast forward a couple of months and Team Aruba have completed their preseason testing and all necessary tweaks to the 2018-spec Panigale R. The expanded team are more confident than ever and are eager to start the season at the iconic Phillip Island track in Australia. We will be making the most of the Ducati hospitality this year, offering some of our customers the opportunity to experience VIP treatment at these action packed race events across the world. We wish the team the best of luck this year and look forward to the first race!
The injury sustained last November has kept me busy during the winter break. I worked hard to make sure I’m ready for the season opener. The new rules for sure will make it more interesting for the public. We just need to do our homework, but I don’t see any reasons why we shouldn’t be as competitive as in the past. We’re working hard and there are upgrades in the pipeline for Phillip Island. We’re ready to battle.

It will be an emotional season. This is my fifth year on track with the Panigale R. I’ve won several races with this bike, which triggers many special memories, so it will be an honour to properly send it off before the Panigale V4 debuts on track.

»»Vehicle of the Month Renault Clio IV 2012 onwards The Clio IV was introduced at the September/October 2012 Paris Motor Show and is available in hatchback body style and starting from early 2013 also as an estate, although not in the UK. The Clio IV is only available with five doors, with “hidden” rear door handles near the windows. Another notable difference from the previous generation is the wheelbase, which has been significantly extended and is now near to the one of a compact car.

The length and the width have also been increased, but less significantly. The range of petrol engines consists of three options: a 1.2-litre 16 valve straight-4 engine, with a maximum power output of 75 hp (56 kW), a turbocharged 0.9-litre 12 valve straight-3 engine, developing 90 hp (67 kW), which can have a CO2 emission level of 99 g/km and a 1.2 liter turbocharged engine which produces 120 hp.

A turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, capable of producing 197 hp (147 kW), will be featured on the Renault Sport version. The Renault Clio looks great and is reasonably cheap to run, but it can’t quite match up to the best in the supermini sector, including the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia.

The 2.0 CDTi (A series) engines were developed for the Insignia and later in the Astra, were based upon the 1.9 CDTI (originally a Fiat powerplant), and as a result the two camshaft options were carried over. Application data alone can’t identify the correct camshaft and therefore only a visual inspection will do.

If the vehicle is fitted with standard ‘shell bearings’ then FAI’s C359 will be the correct exhaust cam. If ‘Needle Bearings’ are fitted then the replacement of the camshaft assembly is needed, which is currently not available in the aftermarket. The bearings play a large part in producing engine oil pressure, as they become worn, they begin to produce less pressure which is usually incorrectly diagnosed as a failing Oil Pump.

To minimise the risk posed by left over oil contaminants we recommend an oil flush and change shortly after any work carried out on the bottom end of the engine.

Opel / Vauxhall A17DT, A17DTC, A17DTE The Opel/Vauxhall 1.7 CDTi is a 1686 cc diesel straight-4 originally designed by Isuzu. The Isuzu 4EE1 1.7-litre was chosen and developed into the “Circle L” family of engines, also known as the 4EE2. For reasons of economy, GM and Isuzu chose not to make an engine from scratch, but rather evolved the new engine from an existing base. The engine kept the same dimensions as the Isuzu 1.7 4EE1. The main differences are in the DOHC and direct injection.

The first engines mounted a simple direct injection and met the Euro 3 standard, while the later engines met Euro 4 and used common rail injection. These were the first engines of this sort used by Opel & Vauxhall. These engines are particularly important for Opel/Vauxhall since they were fitted to their best-selling models. Moreover, thanks to their great fuel economy and reduced emissions, Circle L engines were integrated into the family of Ecotec engines.

Later Circle L engines became part of the Ecoflex family. The A17DTC is the second diesel engine in the Opel/Vauxhall range to be included in the EcoFlex range (the first was a 1.3 Multijet engine from Fiat). Introduced in 2008, is based on the Z17DTJ engine developed simultaneously, and is characterised by a reduction of friction of the moving parts in order to optimise thermal efficiency and meet the stricter Euro V standard.
