»»Christmas Comes Early for Local Charity Football Team Introducing - ‘The Buzzards’
FAI have teamed up with a charitable organisation called the ‘The Rotary Club’, to help secure the future of a football team for players with disabilities. Rotary Club member Richard Johnson OBE noticed a lack of sports available in the local area for the disabled community. Once Richard had discussed the idea with fellow members, Nick Inwards & Peter Banwell of the LeightonLinslade Rotary Club, it was full steam ahead and with that ‘The Buzzards’ were created. A dynamic, inclusive football team, that brings together people from all walks of life. The Buzzards are a part of the MK Dons sports education trust, so they get great opportunities such as; training with MK Dons coaches, attending matches and playing in the ‘Bobi’ league with other MK Dons Set teams. FAI were invited to attend a MK Dons match to launch the sponsorship, the day was a roaring success. At half time senior members of FAI headed down to the pitch to present ‘The Buzzards’ with a cheque amount of £10,500 for a three-year sponsorship. FAI’s Finance Director, Peter Guinn said “It is both an honour and a pleasure to sponsor such a well deserving team. They are an inspiration to us all. The Rotary Club of Leighton & Linslade achieve fantastic things within our local community, and by partnering up with MK Dons they are making a real difference to young people and adults that would otherwise never have been possible” The official sponsorship launch was a day to be remembered and will remain a highlight in FAI’s rich heritage.

»Vehicle » of the Month Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2010-
Only if you’re of a ‘certain age’ or maybe an Alfa Romeo enthusiast will you recognise the original Giulietta. Whether you remember it or not, it’s undeniably stylish; a trend which Alfa has instilled in almost all models since. This attention to styling was to continue with the Alfa 147’s replacement but this time it was to be aimed at buyers’ heads as well as their hearts; the latter of which is well catered for by a quite frankly, gorgeous – ‘modern’ Giulietta. Comparing it on looks alone, to say a Golf or a Focus, it wins hands down but not everything is ‘bellissimo’ with this Italian sports hatch. The choice of red instrument lighting looks retro at best and, if we’re being truthful, it’s plain old-fashioned. In fact, the whole dash is a bit of a let down compared to the exterior and it’s best not to ask where you’ll put your sunglasses or water bottle as storage is woeful. All these niggles slip away as you pop your sunnys on your head and start the engine. Chuck it in to dynamic mode and plant it in to the nearest corner and mundane thoughts of “no storage compartments” are nowhere near your mind. Newer Alfa Romeos are 60% fun and 40% everything else, which gives you just the right balance if in the market for a family car that puts a smile on your face but is easy to live with. With stiff competition within the ‘C’ segment vehicle market the Giulietta was never going to outsell offerings from VAG but it certainly gave them a little food for thought as 400,000 units have been produced and it came 2nd in the European Car of the Year awards 2011. Q. Should I stock window regulators throughout winter? Undoubtably, the demand for window regulators is higher in summer months but when the winter months set in, people are tempted to put their window down rather than scrape all the ice off. This action puts strain on the mechanism and in turn the motor; a process which spells the end for many older window regulators. For these reasons, FAI keeps a healthy stock of all part numbers, regardless of when they’re needed.

Q. Which FAI products should I see a rise in demand for over winter? The obvious one, which we don’t even need to mention but can’t resist a shameless ‘plug’, is LUCAS GLOW PLUGS...did you see what we did there? FAI stock a comprehensive range of plugs that are solely distributed by FAI throughout Europe. GASKETS & SEALS: When the temperature drops, all engine sealing is compromised due to materials being subjected to thermal stress. Head gasket sales also increase considerably in the winter months due to a combination of cracked heads and blocks caused by sub-zero temperatures and poor maintenance. Our gasket range is one of the largest in the aftermarket and offers superior European and Asian coverage. WATER PUMPS: Many people fail to keep the anti-freeze levels in their coolant mix correct during winter months. This leads to thicker coolant fluid; something that the water pump must work harder to circulate around the engine. This extra strain compromises every component of the pump including seals. The rubber seals involved with the water pump are also susceptible to the thermal stress caused by freezing weather. Our water pumps use OE spec bearings and seals, including silicone carbide for the best reliability. We have over 600 part numbers covering 22000+ vehicle applications.

The Renault 1.9 dCi,… or is it a Vauxhall DTi or a Nissan?... It’s amazing how the look of these three vans is interchangeable without the company emblem to guide you. This trend continues when you look in the engine bay with the same Renault engines fitted throughout. Renault coined the name ‘Trafic’ back in 1981 but it wasn’t until the second generation came along that a winning formula powered by the F9Q engine was replicated across a major collaboration with Nissan & Vauxhall.
The engine, which some may now consider as ‘old hat’, was part of a new generation of diesels that powered not only this popular family of vans but also big sellers such as Meganes and Lagunas. The offer of punchy performance coupled with seriously good fuel economy was well received, whether you were lugging the kids or tools about in the van. For these reasons and the fact that F9Q is a fairly dependable unit, it’s still working away in thousands of vehicles today albeit mostly high milers.
