Dear Valued Customer, As you’re aware on the 1st of October, we as FAI Automotive Plc were acquired by Motus, South Africa’s leading automotive group. You may know or not know the business was founded in the early 1980’s by Ian Walker. The business has grown year on year adding new product lines continually and even in these difficult times, the company recorded a record year in 2020 of £35 million in turnover. The business will fall under the Motus Aftermarket Parts (MAP) arm of the Motus business. Despite already owning a substantial network of franchised commercial and passenger vehicle dealerships throughout the UK via its subsidiary Motus Group (UK) Ltd, this is the first UK business acquired by MAP. For you our customers there will be no changes to doing business with us, you will still order as you do and complete payments as you do. The acquisition brings with it a wealth of opportunities and possibilities for us and then for you, our customer. I’m sure you all would like to pass on your well wishes to Sean and his family following the acquisition. Vehicle of the Month Ford Ecosport 2014>
T
he Ford EcoSport is a little confusing but not just because of its awkward sector placement of Mini SUV but something more fundamental, its name. You might assume that the Ecosport is Eco-friendly, maybe a hybrid or even full electric but no, it’s actually pronounced ‘Echo’-sport. So, have we been mispronouncing the EcoBoost engine that coincidently goes in the EcoSport? No, wrong again! That’s pronounced how it’s written, Eco with a long ‘E’ sound. The issue doesn’t stop there either, many have asked ‘is it sporty like the name suggests, a bit like the Fiesta?’. Nope! It’s based on the previous-gen fiesta and although in Fiesta form, it does handle well, making it taller and heavier has done the mini-SUV no favours. Why VOTM then? The Ecosport is a great A to B car that gives you a combination of additional boot space, extra headroom and a higher driving position over the Fiesta. Most are driven around sedately and sits much more in the small family car arena rather than the Fiesta that seems to cater for anywhere between 17- and 80-year-olds, the younger of which put componentry through its paces. The Russian-Doll style engineering that Ford has employed is great news for the Aftermarket as it serves to boost sales on existing part numbers, many of which we recommend for stock. e all know the added benefits of producing a turbo’d engine and with the vast majority of VAG cars sold within the last five sporting a TSi badge, you’d think that’s where all the demand for parts would come from…or is it? Up until 2015 the VW group still sold its 1.2i in a variety of cars, including the highly popular superminis such as the Polo, Ibiza and Fabia. In fact, before 2012, the year in which the EA211 family of engines was introduced, the naturally aspirated 1.2i dominated in the group’s small car segment. We’d love to wow you with amazing facts and figures about the 1.2i but excitement was never its focus. Instead, it was a great powerplant for family runabouts, where low fuel, road tax and insurance were the first things buyers checked; not the 0-60 times! Why engine of the month then?

Loris Baz Fills in For Chaz R10: It was a very sad day for motorsport on the Saturday of round 10, when a young rider within
the WorldSSP 300 category passed away following a tragic accident at the Jerez circuit. A 15-year-old Spanish rider, Dean Berta Vinales had started just 11 races in the category, having started WorldSSP for the 2021 season. The remainder of the day’s events were cancelled while the news broke of such a distressing loss. Our sympathies go out to his family & friends. A meeting was held to work out the way forward with regard to Sunday’s schedule. The riders decided that a day of racing that would be dedicated to Dean would be the best way to honour his memory and love for the sport. Following the crash and subsequent injury of Chaz Davies, Go Eleven has employed the talents of French rider Loris Baz to pilot the V4-RS while Chaz recuperates. Jumping into a situation such as this is never an easy task yet with substantial experience in both MotoGP & WorldSBK he was well prepared.

R11: Go Eleven and newly recruited rider Loris Baz had an extremely positive weekend of racing during the Portuguese round.
The French rider found it hard to get to grips with the qualifying tyre during Saturday’s Superpole but still securing a third row start for race one by coming 9th. From this point he seemed to find his rhythm and shocked everyone with a fantastic display of raw talent. Given that he’s had very limited time on the bike, both Rider & Team enjoyed podium placements across the weekend’s events.

Chaz Davies - Back In The Saddle For Round Twelve R12: The penultimate bout didn’t start well for Go Eleven and Chaz Davies as mechanical issues halted their involvement within the free practice sessions. Davies, who after a period of recovery following a crash in round 10, has returned to finish the season.
The engine had been worked on in time for the first Superpole start yet Chaz couldn’t break out from an average pace. He looked strong on certain parts of the race but the parts he lacked pushed him down the leader board to a 13th finish. Starting on the fifth row for race 1, Chaz had his work cut out for him. The lack of physical training over the past month and his ongoing recovery both contributed to a sketchy race, where some laps were in line with the top five contenders and others closer to the bottom five. A return from injury is never easy and Chaz defended his place better than most could given the circumstances. Sunday’s Superpole was destined to be a hard race to perform well in as Chaz was at the back of the pack from the off. He pushed past as many riders as possible, chasing the top nine but with just 10 laps at his disposal, he ran out of tarmac to do so; 13th place again going into the last race of the weekend. An injured Alex Lowes and subsequent nonstarter gave Chaz a bump to 12th on the grid. From the start, Davies looked stronger than in race 1, aggressively pursuing and passing two opponents in lap one. Halfway through, the issues with injury raise their head again but Chaz ploughs on, overtaking a couple more riders and with the race coming to a close he defended his well-earned position of 9th. There is just one round left for 2021 and what will be Chaz Davies final bout of his career, having announced his retirement four weeks ago. With a month to gain back his physical condition, the finale in Indonesia might just be the send-off all are hoping for.
