Vehicle of the Month VW Transporter 2015>

W offers its best-selling commercial vehicle in a vast array of body styles, spec levels and power trains, whatever your needs, they have you covered. Yet, customers have split into two distinct groups, those looking for a good quality – slow depreciating panel van and those at the other end of the spectrum, who are willing to pay serious money for a luxurious leisure vehicle with a car-like feel. Luxurious!... Really? Years before the introduction of the MK VI Transporter, the clever bods at VW realised a market for cool-commercials, designed to cater for pursuits like surfing, camping and for the parents of a large family who love practicality but don’t want to masquerade as a builder. VW has now pushed the boundaries further with the introduction of the 6.1 Sportline which features a car-like dash, DSG auto box, 204 PS BITDI and a body kit. You can even choose a black pack (yeah, like an M3…but not!) which gives you unique black alloys, bumper inserts and matte black handles. The transit may be at the top of the mid-sized van food chain but the Transporter is snapping at its heels. The German brand offer a model that has broken into a market some never thought existed and by doing so have boosted sales. Ford have similar ideas with the Transit Custom but all the ad-on bits look, well, just that - added on. Whereas the high-spec Transporter just wears them so much better. The VW shouts, here is a person that thought about various solutions and picked the best, albeit expensive option. The Transit says, I used to be a boy racer but now have loads of kids. Who’d have thought it, a modern era van that receives envious looks!

Identify the Correct Kit for Your Customer Due to incomplete OE data, there is no way to accurately identify if the Tsubaki or Borg Warner timing system was fitted on the engine assembly line. Therefore, it is necessary for the installer to confirm which system is required for their repair. Please use the images below to identify the correct FAI kit to order/install. Tsubaki design with standard nonreturn ratchet design & central oil feed hole in chamber.

BMW 2.0 D (B47) 2015> The 2.0 d B47 engine was introduced by BMW in 2014 and widely fitted throughout the range from the end of 2015. Built to replace the troublesome N47 that were mainly focused on the timing chain system. The New and improved version dubbed the B47, solved many of the problems yet, as with all engines, it’s not perfect. FAI have developed some of the most common components to fail and with many vehicles both having left the dealer network and racked up some mileage, sales are increasing month-on-month. As always, we’ll keep you posted on future developments but until then, these parts are all in stock!

Engine of the Month Mercedes 3.0 CDi
T
he year was 2005 and diesel was outstripping sales compared with large cylinder count petrol units – yet, technology was moving on and Mercedes needed a competitive 6 cylinder that pushed back at the likes of BMW & Audi. Introducing, the OM642, Mercedes first V6 common rail diesel that aimed to win over people’s hearts & minds with a blend of high torque and lower running cost when viewed against a large petrol unit. Where the idea of a diesel was once a compromise, this new lightweight aluminium powerplant became the go-to choice for buyers of the German brands most luxurious vehicles. Fitted from anything from a an E-Class to a 90k S-Class, the trend would last for over 13 years. Customers were not disappointed by the performance as most were tuned anywhere between 230 – 265 HP and with 620 NM of torque on tap, it was well suited to the drive of high-end SUVs and Grand Coupes. All would do mid to high 30s on a decent run that given the petrol counterparts would barely break in to the 20s, customers loved the subsequent low amount of trips to the filling station. Good news for the Aftermarket as the combination of the expensive original investment made and the intended purpose of racking up high milage in leather-clad comfort, resulted in significant demand for quality repairs & maintenance. With the aforementioned 90k S-Class now available used for a fraction of the price new, the more money savvy used car owners enjoy the benefits of independent garages and Aftermarket components. Chaz Davies Suffers Injury What led up to Chaz’s Hospitalization? R7: The Navarra circuit played host to round 7 of the WSBK championship, nestled in the north of
Spain. The all-important Superpole race was first on the agenda once the free practise sessions had closed; a race that would determine Chaz Davies standing on the grid for race one. Good tyre choices gave Chaz a fighting chance to perform well. Keeping the leading group within his sights, the Welsh rider fought for fifth, defending his this position until the race end. Starting strong, Chaz soon engaged pockets of riders in race one, taking opportunities when they arose and therefore achieving the subsequent overtakes. A top 5 finish and best independent was within his sights when the front tyre let go of the tarmac, landing Chaz out of the race. A disappointed rider then set his sights on Sunday to score points. Sunday’s Superpole wasn’t as successful as the previous day due to a slower start. With just ten laps to find a placing, Chaz found it harder to make up positions conceded early in proceedings. Despite gaining pace in later laps, Chaz had to settle for a respectable 7th. Lady luck was not on Go Elevens side again in the last race of the weekend. A very similar issue to Saturday’s race caused Chaz to crash out while overtaking during lap one. Team and rider were disappointed, but both looked onwards and upwards to the upcoming French Round – Magny Cours.
R8: Round eight saw team Go Eleven prepare to take on Magny Cours, with the hope of securing some points following the disappointment of round 7.
The first Superpole of the weekend was a mixed bag, with the Welsh rider starting slow for the opening lap but improving by over a second on subsequent laps. A finish of 11th isn’t conducive with a great finish for race one, yet still gives Davies an opportunity to steal a top 5 placing. The sun was pounding the asphalt come time for race one, producing an uncomfortable 40 c on the track. Soon after the start, a large group of closely matched riders held positions 6 – 13th, with nothing between them. Chaz had fought his way to the front of the group a battle ensued with every twist of the circuit, as the contenders tested their nerve to edge past the competition; something Chaz did well. The Welshman had 7th by the chequered flag and best independent. Team and rider felt that with more work to stabilise the front end, a better result could have been achieved although happy to have coined some points. Chaz betters the previous day’s Superpole bypassing several riders during an aggressive start; securing 8th and a row up the grid for starting race two. The heat continued for race two, allowing Go Eleven to use the grippy tyres as in Saturday’s race one. A good start allows Chaz to climb the pack and defend his gains before attacking the next leading group. Avoiding a near-miss, where two contenders made contact, Davies used this to his advantage, passing them and several others, to earn 5th overall. Chaz was also crowned best independent for the second day running, giving the round a much more positive feel.

R9:Good weather greeted the WSBK community for the 9th round of the season allowing for opening
sessions to proceed in the dry. Despite favourable conditions, Chaz was plagued with grip issues from both Pirelli compounds available, switching from hard to softer rubber in free practice sessions. Slipping to 13th in the rankings of Saturday’s Superpole, Chaz narrowly missed a third row start in the upcoming race one. A dark sky and wet weather changed the feel for race one, forcing all to opt for a wet tyre setup. Chaz started slow, not risking the back end in poor conditions yet some were more comfortable and pushed ahead of the Welshman. Now on the backfoot, Davies had to pick up the pace to close the gap between himself and those in front. If not for the opening laps, Chaz would have surely pulled in a positive result as later lap pace matched the top five contenders. He did manage to recover somewhat, including three overtakes on the last lap, coming 10th overall. The weekend was brought to an abrupt halt when French rider Lucas Mahias collided with Chaz, sending both riders and bikes hurtling at high speed. Chaz was taken to hospital for checks as he was experiencing right-hand body pain; resulting in the diagnosis of two broken ribs. We all hope for Chaz’s speedy recovery! No stranger to injury, we’re sure he’ll bounce back as before.
