 New to FAI Wheel Bearing Kits FAI have launched a brand-new range of wheel bearing kits, comprising of over 200 hand-picked references; covering 85% vehicle parc for popular European & Asian manufacturers. Customers can easily find the correct bearing for one of the 25,000 application variants that the range covers by accessing listings on the major automotive electronic cataloguing systems; including MAM & Tec Alliance and the FAI online catalogue.
FAI’s range covers all three generations of bearing, all of which incorporate sensors and pick-up markings for ABS where needed. The first generation which is often referred to as cartridge-style is mainly used on smaller, front wheel drive cars. As technology advanced, generations 2 & 3 were created, with both using a double row angular bearing design and the third generation featuring an integrated flange; producing a more compact unit.

Villicum - Argentina The Penultimate Bout
The Argentinian, Villicum Circuit is new to WSBK for 2018, acting as a bit of a curve-ball for round 12 of the championship. As if a brand-new track wasn’t trying enough, the weather made for tricky manoeuvring as high winds and a smattering of rain hampered the riders. Starting in an enviable pole position, Marco Melandri kicked off the weekend by securing his 9th podium of 2018, finishing in 2nd place. Chaz Davies set off from the third row following a troubled superpole where he experienced technical issues. Pushing hard to reach the leading pack he began a series of overtakes that unfortunately resulted in the Welshman losing his balance and finding his way into the gravel; unhurt but unable to continue. Race two saw a determined Chaz vying to secure some vital points from the penultimate bout, displaying his raw talent by manoeuvring up to third although he was just robbed of a podium as 4th is where he sat when the flag came down. Marco was yet again featured on the podium but only just. It was looking like a lost race for the seasoned Italian when early on he had slipped back to 9th but with some strategic passes he climbed to 3rd.

WSBK Finale: Qatar The proverbial fat lady has sung, it’s all over for another year and what a year it’s been. Chaz Davies, Marco Melandri and the newest addition to the team Michael Rinaldi have provided some of the best motorsport racing we’ve seen in recent history. We’ve enjoyed sharing in their highs like Marcos fantastic double win in the 1st round and Chaz bouncing back from injury to take his place on the podium again and again. The last bout however didn’t exactly go to plan where in race 1 a premature alert tricked Chaz along with other riders in to thinking it was the last lap, when it wasn’t. Marco and Chaz started race 1 way back on the grid, in 9th and 12th, following a difficult super-pole but in their usual style they worked hard, chasing for their place in the leading pack. Marco held 5th until the end whereas Chaz, already experiencing hardware issues was further hindered by the aforementioned rogue sign, resulting in 8th place. If there was one round we thought you could rely on good weather for it was this one, hosted by the desert located track in Losail, Qatar. To everyone’s surprise, riders were informed that a storm was rolling in and the second race would have to be cancelled. The country gets an average of just 80mm of rain a year (to put this in perspective the UK had 1372 in 2017) but unfortunately most of that deposited itself on the Losail International Circuit, which, despite the all-round disappointment, kept the riders from ending the season in hospital. FAI would like to congratulate the whole of Team Aruba.it for a brilliant performance and a massive well done to Chaz & Marco for securing championship 2nd & 5th respectively. It’s been an honour and a privilege to sponsor such a talented and welcoming team.

»Vehicle » of the Month Nissan Juke 2010-
The Nissan Juke has been turning heads for over eight years now, drawing in buyers from a younger market; the very reason they’re a common sight on the school run. Despite the slightly awkward styling (from some angles, at least), it filled a Juke shaped hole in the market. As with most niche cars, they were purchased with the heart rather than one’s head and as a result Nissan went one step further by creating the Nismo version. This high-riding hot hatch does almost nothing as well as the competition but who cares when it looks so muscular and sets you apart from the crowd. Now, we can’t say we cover the variant pictured here but wouldn’t put it past Nissan to introduce it in certain markets. FAI have stocked parts for the Juke for over 5 years but have seen a spike in demand over the last 12 months. We have large stock of popular engine components for the 1.6i & 1.5 DCi units along with an array of steering and suspension parts. All of which are high quality and available now.

We worked as a major supplier of branded bearings for many years; however, with an existing factory capable of producing high quality componentry coupled with extensive range development, we have launched with a sizable 500 part numbers. Our strategy is to hit-the-ground-running, by offering all part numbers in the form of engine sets which encompass over 3000 engine codes; ensuring customers needs are met. FAI has also won sole distribution rights for Yenmak pistons and liners within the UK. Yenmak, the internationally recognised Turkish manufacturer have been in business for over fifty years and now ship upwards of 3 million pistons and rings worldwide. Q.What is the difference between a crankshaft pulley and a torsional vibration damper? Aren’t they the same thing? It is a common misconception that these two items are the same but there are some key differences. A ‘crank pulley’ is a solid component with no rubber elements. It’s only function is to run the crankshaft from the timing belt. Torsional Vibration Dampers do the same job, but have an additional function as well. They will have multiple rubber dampening components which help to counter-effect engine movement. These are more commonly found on vehicles with features like start-stop or cylinder deactivation.

Q. For the Ford/PSA 2.2 cylinder heads, do they include the ladder rack and cam carrier? The heads for these engines come in three sections; Head / Ladder Rack (Rocker Arm Bridge) / Cam Carrier. The heads we applicate - BCH018 through to BCH021 – will include the cam carrier but not the ladder rack. This item is available separately from FAI as LR330. Q. Why do some water pumps have cast aluminium impellors while others are PPS? This significant majority of water pumps utilise an Aluminium material impellor. However the growing trend within modern applications is for PPS (Polyphenylene Sulphide) design to be utilised. PPS can be produced in much more complex designs when compared to Aluminium. Meaning the Water Pump can have an increased flow rate, and prolonged life span.

What do all the above have in common? Yep, you guessed it; the Ford Transit. Synonymous with space, durability and coming in more body styles than you can shake a stick at, it has become so popular that they’ve even named a societal group after it; so was born the ‘white-van-man’. Obviously, there are lots of white vans, but the Transit is king, beating sales of competing models year after year. These vehicles can be found in every corner of the country hauling tools, materials and often three large chaps, albeit in a slightly too snug front bench. As we all know, the expectations placed on high mileage workhorses such as these, need significant tlc.
