Sailing Into Spring
As we welcome the beginning of another year, the region is certainly facing its challenges but, with resilience and hope, life goes on and we are looking towards better days.
Our Spring issue takes a look at two stunning new yachts, the Riva 112’ Dolcevita Super, which offers refined, pleasure-filled cruising, and the new 50 Sail, the first foray into sailing models from Aquila Catamarans. Step aboard with us and experience two very different vessels, each with its own unique charm.
In our motoring pages, we get behind the wheel of the iconic Porsche 911 Carrera, a sports car with legacy that did not disappoint, and take a spin in the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC Coupé, where luxury design meets functionality.
Our Horology pages feature new releases from some of the most iconic brands and in style and fashion, we stick with the classics, featuring Tom Ford and Zegna.
In Hospitality, we take a trip to London to visit a very grand address on the city’s famed Park Lane and closer to home, we make a stop at Banyan Tree Doha, the sophisticated spot at the heart of Doha Oasis.
Dining sees us in Bahrain, at the recently opened Chinese venue, Mei Ling, which feels almost like a secret club, and Qatar, for Lebanese flavours at Babel. Lastly, we introduce an on-board adventure from travel specialists Arksen, who invite you to an exclusive cruise through Norway’s stunning Lofoten archipelago. We hope you enjoy the spring edition and wish you peace for the coming months.

A NEW SOFT-TOP FROM MARANELLO

The recently revealed Ferrari Amalfi Spider V8 2+ spider is designed for those who seek contemporary sportiness combined with versatility.
Envisioned by the Ferrari Design Studio under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, the Ferrari Amalfi Spider embodies Ferrari’s sporting lifestyle in an open-air configuration, thanks to its 2+ spider architecture with a fabric soft top engineered to fully preserve the proportions and formal purity of the Ferrari Amalfi.
The design was driven by the desire to preserve the proportions and volumes of the Ferrari Amalfi, retaining its elegant, flowing silhouette even with the roof open. The soft top comes in four colours in tailor-made fabric and two in technical fabric, including the new Tecnico Ottanio.
The soft top opens in 13.5 seconds and can be operated on the move at speeds of up to 60km/h. When folded, its compact packaging –just 220mm thick – maximises luggage capacity, offering 255 litres with the roof closed and 172 litres with it open. Acoustic and thermal insulation is provided by a five-layer fabric delivering soundproofing and heat insulation comparable to that of a Ferrari retractable hard top (RHT). Like the Ferrari Amalfi, the cabin features a dual-cockpit layout and an evolved driver-car interface. Key elements include the steering wheel with physical buttons, the return of the iconic start button, the integrated central display and controls designed for natural interaction. Connectivity is ensured through compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android
Auto, while wireless smartphone charging is integrated into the central tunnel. The car is also equipped with the MyFerrari Connect system, which allows remote monitoring of the vehicle's status via a dedicated app.
The 2+ configuration enhances practicality, with rear seats suitable for travelling with children or increasing load capacity.
The car’s design is based on a fluid, minimalist approach, with sculpted volumes and clean surfaces that convey modernity and dynamism. The front end is defined by a large air intake and a long, sculpted bonnet that houses the 640hp turbocharged V8.
In terms of safety and driver assistance, the Ferrari Amalfi Spider is equipped with a comprehensive suite of next-generation ADAS systems.
With the Ferrari Amalfi Spider, Ferrari introduces the new Rosso Tramonto colour, an exclusive shade that enriches the chromatic journey begun with Verde Costiera, inspired by the hues of the Amalfi Coast.

A MIDDLE EAST EXCLUSIVE

Watchmaker Breitling has introduced a new Middle East exclusive timepiece, the limited-edition Avenger 42 Night Mission, for the first time with Indian numerals on the dial.
Limited to just 100 pieces available across the region, the new model comes with an anthracite military leather strap, ceramic case and carbon dial. This adventurous timepiece is equipped with the three-hand automatic Breitling Caliber 17, with a power reserve of approximately 38 hours and water resistance to 30 bar. The watch has a diameter of 42mm and is 12.25mm thick. The dial is black with black plated Hindi numerals and Carbon Super-LumiNova luminescent indexes, numerals and hands. Built for jet pilots, the Avenger Night Mission is a watch that can take on the toughest cockpits and keep coming back for more. But you don’t need air force credentials to appreciate its bold design, exceptional resilience and next-level functionality. Managing Director, Breitling Middle East, India and Africa, Aed Adwan says: “We are delighted to introduce the first Middle East exclusive Avenger model featuring Indian numerals based on popular demand. The Avenger has always been admired for its bold design and exceptional resilience. Its new
features, including the striking black monochrome dial with Indian numerals, add a distinctive style and timeless elegance to this robust timepiece.” Breitling’s expertise in aviation extends beyond military models and instruments to the golden age of civil aviation, when Breitling created one of the most renowned and legendary time pieces of the jet age, the Navitimer. Additional aviationfocussed models followed, including the AVI Co-Pilot, the Aerospace, the Emergency and, of course, the Avenger, each a testament to Breitling’s substantial history and enduring link with aviation.

REDEFINING LA DOLCE VITA ON THE WATER
Riva’s newest star boasts sleek, sculpted lines and a bold profile. We step aboard the Riva 112’ Dolcevita Super, where every moment is transformed into an immersive cruising experience.

Launched late last year, this vessel is a synthesis of elegance and harmony, promising refined pleasure and a deep connection with the sea. Evolved from the famous Riva 110’ Dolcevita, one of the most highly acclaimed models in recent years, the design is by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, founders of Officina Italiana Design, working in partnership with the Strategic Product Committee chaired by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.
Boasting an overall length of 34.38 metres and a maximum beam of 7.27 metres, she offers many key features of Riva’s new generation of flybridge yachts, including larger spaces, redesigned settings and original details.
OUTSIDE
Once aboard, the first thing you’ll notice is the stern beach club, a spacious, 35sq/m, ultra-low platform which sits at the water’s edge, with a multifunction boarding ladder providing easy, safe access. Two bulwarks swing out to form side terraces, creating a feeling of total freedom. In the centre of the beach club, an extralarge sun sofa conceals a large garage that can accommodate a Williams 565 tender and a Sea-Doo jet ski, while behind the sun pad a second compartment with natural ventilation can safely store two Seabobs.
The 24sq/m cockpit is designed as a waterfront lounge and features two large modular sofas by RODA For You, freestanding furniture and a bar unit equipped with a sink, a fridge and an optional ice maker, plus a third helm station on request for manoeuvring.
The bow area is designed for total relaxation and seclusion, with a first lounge area containing a large C-shaped sofa and a generous sunbathing area with a sofa positioned over a storage compartment for the fenders. In the tip of the bow, a Jacuzzi can be fitted under the sun pad, which slides forward when the tub is in use.
MAIN DECK
The elegant main salon covers more than 50sq/m with exceptionally high ceilings (two metres plus) giving a sense of space and comfort. High-gloss rosewood is paired with black hammered leather elements and lacquered surfaces that reflect the light from expansive side windows. Light shades on carpets and ceilings create a chic contrast. This first unit features a dining area at the entrance. It has an elegant stainless-steel and glass Acerbis Int table in the centre, complete with leather-upholstered chairs for up to 10 people. The living area, in the boat’s midship, offers three refined Poltrona Frau sofas in a horseshoe arrangement around a Poliform coffee table. On the central wall, a 75-inch TV is an integral part of the décor. Owners can also opt for a more traditional layout.

On the starboard side, the galley combines functionality with Corian worktops and latest generation Miele appliances. The galley provides direct access to the crew area on the lower deck and the helm station, so there is no need for crew to enter the guest areas. On the opposite side of the lounge is the entrance to the 34sq/m master suite, where hammered black leather accents contrast with pale wallpaper. Two walk-in wardrobes and a vanity desk provide ample storage alongside the full-sized double bed. The spacious bathroom – available in various marble finishes – has a shower with a fitted bench and two basins, creating a refined and intimate space, and the picture windows offer panoramic views.
LOWER DECK
The lower deck is devoted entirely to guests and crew. The guest area has four cabins –two mirror-image VIP cabins aft and two guest cabins forward, one of which is fitted with separable and pullman beds. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom, polished rosewood finishings coordinated with the master cabin and black hammered leather detailing. Acoustic insulation has been upgraded to ensure absolute silence both when under way and at anchor, with a reinforced wall between the guest and crew areas. The crew area boasts three cabins to accommodate five crew.
FLYBRIDGE
The 60sq/m flybridge has a spacious living area in the stern with freestanding furniture from RODA For You. The central dining area offers an elongated an American-style bar with a fridge and optional extras of a grill and ice maker, plus a central TV that hides out of the way when not in use. There is also a large dining table as well as a C-shaped sofa upholstered in outdoor technical fabric. The carbon hard top has refined, asymmetrical styling that filters the light and underscores the profile of the flybridge. The second helm station completes the layout, with a convenient side walkway on the port side that connects the flybridge to the bow area.
ENGINES
The yacht is available with two 2,638 HP MTU 16V 2000 engine configurations: the M96L version with a top speed of 25.5 knots and a cruising speed of 23 knots, and the optional M97L version, which meets IMO III and EPA III standards and is fitted with an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system to reduce NOx emissions. Designed for high performance, luxury and shallow-water cruising, the Riva 112’ Dolcevita Super has a maximum range of 430 nautical miles.

PRECISION, CONFIDENCE AND INTENT

Engineering and execution were clearly at the forefront, as Hadag got behind the wheel of one of the world’s most recognisable sports cars, the Porsche 911 Carrera.
There are cars you approach with excitement and then there are cars you approach with a brief pause – the kind where everyone goes quiet, smiles without quite realising it and lets the silence do the talking.
The Porsche 911 Carrera belongs firmly in the second category. This is the eighth generation of Porsche’s most enduring nameplate and while the 911 Carrera may be the entry point to the range, nothing about it felt introductory during our time with it. The Carrera proved to be as thrilling as it is approachable – a sports car that understands its own character and delivers on every expectation.
Unmistakable Purpose
The moment we saw the new 911 Carrera, it was instantly recognisable – and then its evolution became clear. The body felt wider, more muscular and more assertive, yet unmistakably faithful to Porsche’s design DNA. The forward-extended bonnet with its subtle recess referenced earlier generations, while seamlessly integrated LED headlights brought the design firmly into the modern era. From the side on, the smooth surfaces and flush pop-out door handles gave the Carrera a clean, uninterrupted profile. That sense of composure remained consistent from every angle. At the rear, things turned more dramatic. A continuous LED light strip stretched across the width, framing the Porsche lettering and making the car instantly recognisable after dark.
Drive-Focussed Design
Once inside, the 911 Carrera delivered a cabin that felt purpose-built yet quietly luxurious. Sitting in the driver’s seat, the dashboard design immediately stood out, drawing inspiration from classic 911s with its clear, horizontal layout and traditional analogue rev counter positioned at the centre. The overall design prioritised clarity, with information presented cleanly and without visual clutter. The seating position was low and focussed, with sports seats offering strong lateral support while remaining comfortable on longer drives. Visibility felt well judged, contributing to a reassuring sense of control. Materials and switchgear felt deliberate throughout, with solid finishes and controls that felt natural to the hand. It was a cockpit that felt considered and cohesive – designed to be experienced, not overthought.
Quietly Confident Tech
Technology in the 911 felt carefully integrated rather than layered on. The Porsche Communication Management system sat neatly within the dashboard, anchored by a 10.9-inch touchscreen that responded quickly and proved easy to navigate. Menus were clearly structured and key functions were easy to access. The digital instrument display complemented the central analogue rev counter without

The Carrera proved to be as thrilling as it is approachable – a sports car that understands its own character and delivers on every expectation.
overwhelming it, presenting information clearly and at a glance. Smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto worked seamlessly, while wireless charging and USB-C ports handled everyday connectivity without fuss. Voice control responded accurately, adding convenience without frustration. Overall, the technology supported the experience confidently, feeling advanced without becoming intrusive.
Built For The Road
Powering the Carrera is a 3.0-litre twinturbocharged flat-six producing 394 horsepower and 450Nm of torque, paired with an eightspeed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. What defined the experience was how immediately the car responded to inputs. Acceleration felt urgent but controlled. Pressing the throttle delivered a clean surge of momentum, the Carrera gathering speed with smooth, relentless intensity rather than theatrics. The sprint to 100km/h took 4.1 seconds, delivered with composure rather than urgency. The gearbox operates seamlessly in the background. Confidence built quickly as speeds rose. Power delivery was linear and predictable, making it easy to place the car precisely. The rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout gave the Carrera an engaging character, while the steering remained precise and communicative. Porsche Active Suspension Management kept the car settled through changes in surface and direction, rewarding smooth inputs and encouraging commitment without ever feeling demanding. This was a performance that didn’t ask for bravery – it rewarded assurance. The 911 Carrera impressed not through excess or spectacle, but through control, balance and precision behind the wheel.
Thoughtful Integrated Safety
Despite the car’s performance focus, safety never felt like an afterthought. Driver assistance systems operated quietly in the background, offering reassurance without intruding on the drive. Features such as Warn and Brake Assist with pedestrian detection stepped in only when required. In urban environments, ParkAssist with front and rear sensors and a reversing camera proved particularly useful, making manoeuvring far less intimidating than the car’s presence might suggest. Adaptive lighting further enhanced visibility, adjusting intelligently to conditions without constant input. Overall, the safety

technology felt thoughtfully integrated, reinforcing confidence without diluting the purity of the drive.
A Standard, Reaffirmed
Time spent with the Porsche 911 Carrera left an evident impression. This was a car that upheld its reputation through clarity of purpose across every aspect, not merely the badge on the bonnet.
It balanced performance, usability and technology with impressive ease, remaining thrilling without intimidation and advanced without excess. The 911 Carrera showed that high performance doesn’t need exaggeration to be outstanding. Precision, confidence and intent defined the experience – and by the end of the drive, it was clear this was a car we simply wanted to keep driving.

ARRIVE IN STYLE AT THE ULTIMATE LUXURY RESORT EXPERIENCE

LUXURY DESIGN MEETS EVERYDAY FUNCTIONALITY

Hadag spent the day with the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC Coupé, a premium model that meets high expectations.
In a region where SUVs are expected to balance luxury, technology and everyday usability, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC Coupé enters the segment with clear intent.
Positioned as a premium luxury SUV focussed on refinement and modern technology, it arrives in a space where expectations are very high.
During our inspection and test drive of the AMG Line model, the GLE Coupé came across as a vehicle designed to fit naturally into daily life, while still delivering the comfort and quality expected from a Mercedes-Benz. It proved intuitive from the outset, without needing a week of manuals to feel at home.
Confident Design
Walking around the GLE 450 4MATIC, the balance between SUV presence and the sleeker Coupé roofline stood out immediately. Our test model sharpened that look with AMG body styling and 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, giving it a stance that felt planted and confidently premium.
At the front, the grille and multibeam LED headlights brought a strong road presence, particularly noticeable once the sun went down and the lighting signature came to life. The flowing roofline and body shaping helped visually slim the profile, keeping the design cohesive rather than bulky.

The illuminated brand projection when opening the doors was one of those details you don’t expect to care about — until you start timing arrivals for after sunset.
Premium Interiors
Once inside the luxury SUV, the interior immediately reminded us why Mercedes cabins carry the reputation they do. Leather upholstery and wood trim gave everything real depth, while the widescreen cockpit kept the dashboard modern and clean, without turning the interior into a tech demo.
The front seats impressed early on, offering ventilation and memory adjustment, so getting comfortable didn’t require a negotiation.
The panoramic sunroof helped create a more open feel, while strong insulation kept outside noise impressively low. Ambient lighting added just enough presence during night drives to make the space feel special without becoming distracting.
It blends performance, comfort and technology in a way that feels considered rather than calculated, making daily driving feel genuinely easy — and quietly indulgent.
Cooled cup holders were a small detail we didn’t think would matter — and then promptly did.
Assistance As Standard
During our test drive, the GLE 450 4MATIC Coupé’s technology felt designed to support the drive rather than dominate it. The widescreen cockpit was clear and responsive, with information laid out in a way that made quick checks easy without demanding to be part of every moment.
The system responded quickly to inputs via the touchscreen and steering-wheel controls, and switching between navigation, media and vehicle settings felt intuitive enough that we rarely had to think about it twice. Wireless smartphone integration worked seamlessly, keeping playlists, calls and maps connected without fuss. A head-up display added another genuinely useful layer, keeping key driving information in view without needing to glance down. The Burmester sound system delivered rich, balanced audio, without tempting us to spend the drive adjusting levels.
Power With Intent
From the moment we pressed the accelerator, the GLE 450 4MATIC Coupé made its intent clear. Power arrived smoothly and confidently, building in a way that felt effortless rather than showy, yet still quick enough to catch you pleasantly off guard. Our bodies relaxed almost immediately, while our brains quietly recalibrated to how quickly the scenery began to move. Acceleration felt strong and predictable, whether pulling away from traffic lights or joining fastermoving roads. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system added a reassuring sense of grip, smart torque converter allowing the GLE to put its performance to the ground without fuss. What stood out most was how composed everything felt. The GLE delivered real pace while still feeling relaxed to drive, leaving us confident, comfortable — and occasionally checking the speedometer to confirm just how quickly we were moving.
Intelligent Systems
During our time with the GLE 450 4MATIC Coupé, the driver assistance systems felt reassuringly present without ever becoming intrusive. Features like adaptive cruise control and lane support stepped in smoothly when needed, particularly during longer stretches of driving, without giving the impression that the car was trying to take over the experience.

In traffic, the systems worked quietly in the background, reducing fatigue rather than adding alerts or unnecessary interventions. The overall effect was one of calm confidence, especially in stop-start conditions where constant inputs are usually required — and patience is often tested. What became clear was how naturally everything integrated into the drive. Safety technology here felt like a layer of support rather than a collection of features, offering reassurance without demanding attention.
Worthy of the Badge
By the end of our time with the MercedesBenz GLE 450 4MATIC Coupé, it was clear this is a luxury SUV that understands its audience well. It blends performance, comfort and technology in a way that feels considered rather than calculated, making daily driving feel genuinely easy — and quietly indulgent.
The GLE Coupé doesn’t try to reinvent the segment; instead, it gently reminds you why Mercedes continues to set the benchmark when refinement and real-world usability matter most.

INTRODUCING A NEW AESTHETIC

Vacheron Constantin, one of the world’s oldest watchmakers, has introduced a new model to its Overseas collection, a titanium tourbillon featuring a deep red dial.

At 30% stronger than steel, titanium is particularly well suited for watchmaking and gives a feeling of sportiness alongside an elegant appearance. It was first introduced to the Overseas collection back in 2009 and has since appeared in various models, most recently in a blue-dial model.
Now, the red dial makes a striking addition to the family. Certified with the Hallmark of Geneva, which guarantees the, origin, quality and durability of high-end mechanical watches, and equipped with the ultra-thin calibre 2160, which is only 5.65mm thick, the watch features a tourbillon regulator and fits comfortably on the wrist.
The model is characterised by a sunburst satinfinished lacquered deep-red dial and velvetfinished minutes track. Small seconds are seen on the tourbillon carriage and 18-carat white gold is applied to the hour/minute hands. For easy visibility, the hour markers are highlighted with blue SuperLuminova.
The same attention to detail is shown in the finishing touches of the grade five titanium case. The bracelet features polished link angles and a vertical satin-brushed finish, a detail also found on the case face. In contrast, the bezel, whose profile evokes the maison’s emblem, the Maltese cross, has a circular satin-brushed finish on a sandblasted ring. This combination accentuates the slim profile of this ultra-thin

model, measuring just 10.39mm thick overall. The watch comes with an integrated titanium bracelet featuring a triple-blade folding clasp equipped with a comfort-adjustment system that allows for a 4mm increase in wrist size. Two additional straps in deep red and white rubber are available, both equipped with an interchangeable grade five titanium folding clasp that can be changed without tools. With a diameter of 31mm, this Overseas watch is distinguished by its remarkably thin case. The ultrathin movement, incorporating a tourbillon cage, features bidirectional winding and an 80hour power reserve.
Designed to highlight the complexity of the timepiece, the movement’s finishes, visible through the fully openworked caseback, offer subtle plays of light on its 188 components, elegantly underscoring its sophistication. The calibre features a circular-grained mainplate, the bridges are decorated with Côtes de Genève and hand-bevelled, the tourbillon shank is delicately cradled, the wheels are grained and the screws are chamfered and polished: all details that testify to meticulous craftsmanship.

CELEBRATING THE YEAR OF THE HORSE

To mark the arrival of an auspicious period in the lunar calendar, Swiss manufacturer Hublot has introduced a stunning, limited-edition piece, the Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse.

Taking inspiration from Chinese culture, in which the horse symbolises ambition, endurance and forward momentum, the dial, modelled on Tang-dynasty artistry, depicts a high-spirited, flower-dappled horse outlined in gold, its mane caught in motion. Limited to just 88 pieces, it combines hand-laid carbon marquetry with 3N gold-plated brass appliqués forming a horse motif. Every carbon fragment is cut, aligned and assembled by hand and three-dimensional gold lines, inspired by the embroidery of ancient Chinese ceremonial robes, give the horse a powerful presence.
The piece is 13.8mm thick and the 42mm tonneau-shaped case is crafted in matte black carbon. A black lacquer base amplifies contrast and depth, while the smoked sapphire caseback and black calf-rubber strap reinforce the watch’s assertive identity.
Inside the Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse beats the HUB1710, a reliable and high-performance automatic mechanical movement. Offering a power reserve of approximately 50 hours, the watch is water resistant to 100 metres.
“This creation embodies our drive to innovate beyond convention. With the Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse, we turn carbon and gold into sculpted art and symbolism into engineering precision. We master materials the way we master time, in a limitless way,” says Hublot CEO, Julien Tornare.
The Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse Frosted Carbon is available at a selection of Hublot points of sale.

WATCHING THE MOON

is starting the year with two new timepieces in the
OMEGA
Speed master Moonwatch capsule.

The Swiss brand has been at the forefront of watchmaking innovation since its founding in 1848. For 2026, it has launched two new Speedmaster Moonwatch timepieces, reinterpreting the classic chronograph that accompanied the Apollo 11 crew members on their mission to the moon.
The new models are crafted with the line’s signature step dial, featuring a double plate. The top plate is polished black, with a varnished and lacquered finish for superior sheen and includes rhodium-plated sub-dial frames. The base layer for the sub-dials is produced in white on the main dial, while the sub-dials feature minute tracks transferred in black giving a rare reverse panda look.
In addition to the black-and-white dial, the new watches feature black ceramic bezel rings with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The front features a box-form scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment. The straps are polished-brushed bracelets, crafted in the standard Moonwatch style with OMEGA’s patented comfort-release adjustment system. The two 42mm choices include a stainless steel version with all hands and hour markers in rhodium plated with white Super-LumiNova. The other version is in 18-carat Moonshine Gold, OMEGA’s own long-lasting yellow gold alloy, that covers the hour-minute hands,

subdial hands and hour markers along with white Super-LumiNova, as well as a central chronograph hand in PVD Moonshine Gold. These Speedmaster Moonwatch professional timepieces are each powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 – the most advanced evolution of the famous Calibre 321 worn by NASA astronauts. This mechanical quality allows the watches to receive a five-year warranty, along with Master Chronometer certification, which guarantees the Swiss industry’s highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic resistance.

FOCUS ON ELEGANCE
European decadence and American sleekness join in Tom Ford’s Resort 2026 collection, highlighting individuality with a penchant for seduction.
Describing the release, Creative Director Haider Ackermann says: “Plein soleil life, now, suggests a feeling of cosmopolitan elegance. Wandering and global travelling imbue an attitude that is both assured and careless, an individual way of being and getting dressed, a spontaneity that takes away rather than adding, a penchant for unexpected pairings.”
The blacks, whites and neutrals, that are so defining of the house, are, as always, in evidence, complemented by pops of bright colour, from buttery yellow and baby blue to a bright crimson bomber coupled with clashing fuchsia.
Sharp suiting, once again, evokes the Wolf of Wallstreet vibe of the Colombian’s first Tom Ford collection. Front pleated, tapered trousers elongate the form while double-breasted jackets paired with tonal ties impart an air of classic confidence.
For more everyday wear, tonal jackets in sand and khaki meet trenches and shorts, all in comfortable, yet stylish cuts making a statement of quiet, understated elegance.
Romance also plays a part with a sumptuous, midnight blue velvet ensemble and the liberal use of cravats, harking back to a more decadent age.
Texture is found both in the use of colour and fabrics, such as denim on denim, alongside shimmering silky satins, with double pick-stitched lapels displaying the opulence of hand finishing.
Fluid silhouettes are draped in luxuriant wools, silks and mellow, soft leathers while accessories add the finishing touch with jewel-bright velvet slippers in sumptuous upholstery fabrics and capacious bags adding to the wanderer aesthetic.

INTRODUCING 19 DEGREE LITE

FASHION MOLDED BY EXPIERIENCE

The latest collection from Italian house Zegna brings infinite wearability in a range of luxe fabric options, distressed for a sense of intimacy and earthy allure.
Showcased at Dubai Opera in an ambitious presentation that transformed the Emirates landmark into the founder's Trivero mansion, Villa Zegna, the pieces represent the marriage of Oasi Zegna with the desert landscape. Pieces have undergone intense washing and crinkling, molding their volumes to the body and fading their colours as if the scorching sun and heat of Dubai had left a permanent mark. The nonchalance of the jackets tied at the waist and loafers worn as slippers equally suggests a way to freely adapt to the rough poetry of the everyday. The silhouette is loose and deconstructed. Jackets are as light as shirts, and even the iconic Il Conte comes in a boxy, roomier version. Double-layer Nehru shirts and long shirts that double as outerwear set the easy, flowing tone, as do the tailored shorts worn under tailored summer coats or body-hugging blousons. Mattress and pajama stripes run on weightless shirting suits. Leather jackets and coats are light as a breeze. Deconstructed blazers have low, two-button closures. Field jackets, cardigan jackets and blazers with low pockets expand the library of shapes. Matching prints on shirts and shorts add charm. Accessories are soft Moccasin
slippers, wraparound sunglasses and capacious bags.
The palette is an earthy tonal mix of off-whites, sandy beiges, rusts through to brown, olives, smoky greys and dusty raspberries. Textures are pleasantly intense to the touch with summer Shetland in wool/silk/linen, ultralight poplin in pure silk and cotton/silk, jacquard linen/wool, second skin suede, compact sail canvas poplin, rustic hand-spun silk, linen silk/ wool mat, three-ply canvas in Oasi Lino and more.
“There is an immediacy and a liveliness to the earthy allure of this collection that belies the layered thought process behind it," says Zegna Creative Director Alessandro Sartori. "While researching, we came across an image that felt illuminating, and that perfectly summed up my intentions. It depicts a chair, upon which items of clothing are piled up after being taken off, probably ready to be picked up the day after. The stratigraphy and the casualness suggest a life lived intensely, which is what we are after. As designers, we do half of the work: the rest happens when clients interpret pieces day by day."

MOMA DESIGN STORE
ISAMU NOGUCHI CHESS SET
Almost as much art as board game, this chess set by Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi was designed in 1944 and has stood the test of time.
Facing scarcity of quality materials, the artist eventually landed on plexiglass, a then new experimental material. Noguchi’s chess pieces are mini abstract sculptures which became prototypes for the sculptures he later conceived in that era. The modern shapes, with the exception of the rook, feature headlike forms and arched spines. Noguchi’s Perspex folding chess board evokes Indian and Persian black lacquered chess boards that had round inlays (in place of traditional squares) made from mother of pearl or ivory. Noguchi’s version is designed with red and translucent white circular plexiglass inlays.
This newly issued, authorised edition of the Isamu Noguchi Chess Set is made in Switzerland from Perspex plexiglass. Store.moma.org

BERLUTI
ALESSANDRO 1895 OXFORD
Imagined by Alessandro Berluti, father of the brand’s founder Torello Berluti, who dreamed of a shoe made from a single piece of leather, unadorned with just three sets of eyelets, the Alessandro has evolved over the years without ever losing the clean architecture that became a signature. For 2026, the shoe has been reimagined with fuller, gently sculpted contours. The soul has been redesigned for a more precise fit and the outer leather is lighter for increased suppleness. Crafted from Venezia calfskin, the ready-to-wear shoes come in archival colours Charcoal Brown and Charcoal Grey. There’s also a made-to-order edition for collectors and connoisseurs. Berluti.com

A GRAND ADDRESS ON PARK LANE

A journey from Bahrain to London led the Hadag team to one of Mayfair’s most enduring hotel addresses — where heritage, comfort and location come together with quiet confidence.

Arriving in London always carries a certain anticipation. Even after a long flight from Bahrain, there is something about the city that feels instantly familiar yet full of promise. Perhaps it’s the rhythm of the streets, or the way history and modern life sit side by side so easily.
Our arrival at Sheraton Grand London Park Lane brought that feeling into focus. Set on Piccadilly, directly opposite Green Park and at the edge of Mayfair, the hotel immediately announced itself as a classic London address — assured, established and unmistakably part of the city.
Inside, the tone softened. We found check-in calm and welcoming, offering a smooth transition from travel into stay. It was the kind of arrival that allowed us to pause, take in our surroundings and feel settled before heading up to the room.
An Art Deco Legacy, Comfortably Worn
We found that the hotel carried its Art Deco heritage with confidence. That sense of history was present throughout, from the architecture to the detailing, but it never felt overstated. Instead, it formed a subtle backdrop to a property that felt current, composed and well suited to today’s travellers. During a brief tour, we saw a series of wellconnected public spaces designed for both gathering and retreat. From quieter corners to more social areas, we felt a consistent sense of balance — lively enough to feel connected to the city, yet calm enough to step away from it when needed. The tour unfolded at an easy pace, offering a clearer sense of how the building worked as a whole. We were also shown some of the hotel’s higher-category accommodation, including the Sheraton Club Rooms and the Grand Suite, which stood out for their sense of luxury, space and flexibility.
Rooms Designed for Real Rest
Our room reflected that same sense of ease for us. Design elements nodded gently to the Art Deco era, paired with a neutral palette that felt timeless rather than thematic. It was a setting that encouraged us to properly settle in, rather than simply pass through.
The Sheraton Signature Sleep Experience Bed quickly proved its worth, delivering the kind of rest that was genuinely restorative. The bathroom followed the same calm, considered design, finished in crisp monochrome tones and stocked with thoughtful amenities that reinforced the hotel’s sense of quality.
Palm Court and a London Ritual
Palm Court stood out for us as one of the hotel’s defining spaces, and its recent refurbishment gave it renewed presence during our visit. Reimagined ahead of the hotel’s centenary celebrations, the lounge felt refreshed while remaining true to its Art Deco origins.
The restored stained-glass, domed ceiling immediately drew the eye, while updated finishes and lighting added warmth and depth. Afternoon tea felt unhurried and refined during our visit —

The hotel immediately announced itself as a classic London address — assured, established and unmistakably part of the city.
less about formality, more about enjoying the moment. It was easy to understand why Palm Court has long been a gathering place for both visitors and locals.
Dining at Mercante
Dinner took us to Mercante, the hotel’s Italianinspired restaurant. We found the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming, with interiors influenced by traditional Italian markets. A hand-drawn map of Italy stretching across one wall added character without overwhelming the space.
The menu focussed on approachable, wellexecuted dishes designed for sharing and conversation. After travel and settling in, it felt like exactly the right pace. Breakfast the following morning offered a calm and comfortable start to the day before stepping back out into the city.
Smith & Whistle: A Local Touch
Smith & Whistle, the hotel’s entertainment venue, carried a distinctly local feel despite its Park Lane address. Inspired by a fictional detective story, it combined classic comfort food with British craft hops and a seasonal mixes list. We found the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming — an easy place to end the evening without feeling the need to venture further.
Facilities That Support the Stay
We found the hotel’s facilities practical and well considered. The 24-hour fitness centre suited guests moving between time zones, while the historic event spaces, including its Art Deco ballroom, reflected its longstanding role in London’s social and cultural life.
During our time at the property, these spaces felt thoughtfully integrated into the overall stay. Everything was easy to access and well maintained, supporting the flow of our time there and allowing us to focus on enjoying London rather than managing the practicalities of being away.
London on the Doorstep
One of our lasting impressions was how naturally the hotel connected us to the city itself. With Green Park directly opposite and Mayfair within easy reach, stepping out felt effortless. We enjoyed spending time in the surrounding area, knowing that returning to the hotel meant returning to comfort and familiarity.
When it was time to fly back to Bahrain, the feeling was one of quiet satisfaction. What stood out for us was that the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane didn’t rely on spectacle or trend. Instead, it offered reassurance, heritage and a strong sense of place — qualities that stayed with us long after departure.

In Thanks to Our Hosts
We extend our sincere thanks to the team at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, whose warmth, professionalism and attention to detail shaped every part of our stay. Their thoughtful hospitality made our time in London feel both seamless and genuinely welcoming.

SLOW LIVING IN THE HEART OF DOHA

Sirine Boudjadi discovered a sense of chilled well-being as she explored Doha Oasis, from the serene Banyan Tree to Printemps Doha’s elegant spaces.

My restorative journey through Doha Oasis began at Banyan Tree Doha, the beating heart of this shimmering destination with unlimited experiences, where wellness seamlessly intertwines with art, architecture and nature. Pulling up to the entrance, I could sense the hum of the city fading away. A cool breeze and the sweet, heady scent of lilies spilt out to greet me when the doors opened and check-in took no more than two minutes: a welcoming smile, effortless courtesy and a key card discreetly passed across the counter. Even though I was eager to see my room, I couldn’t help but pause before the lifts. The lobby unfolded like a living sculpture: a sanctuary designed around the four elements of nature. Two oryx statues stood poised at the entrance like guardians of this serene world, towering metallic trees rose from the polished marble floor and stretched into a mirrored ceiling. Across the space, two vast animated screens shimmered in dialogue, one glowing deep crimson, symbolising fire, and the other radiating cool electric blue, representing water. The gentle play of air connects the outer garden dome with the interior, creating a seamless harmony that evolves with the weather, reflected through the screens’ dynamic display system.
A Serene Space
It was time to trade spectacle for stillness and discover the Serenity Suite that would become my private refuge. When I opened the door, I actually stopped for a moment. Not out of surprise, but from the way the room seemed to exhale. It had an instant sense of calm. The light was the first thing I noticed: soft and honeyed in the afternoon, turning cooler and bluer as evening approached. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the view unfolded in layers: the hotel’s conical glass towers gleaming nearby, a serene courtyard garden just below and, beyond it all, Doha’s skyline glittering under the Gulf sun. Everything was in beautiful harmony: amber velvet sofas, caramel leather chairs and smoky black tables resting on a golden-honey carpet.
A welcome plate of miniature pastries was waiting for me: delicate squares of chocolate, slivers of baklava that cracked under the fork, rose-scented sweets dusted with sugar and crushed pistachio. On the bed, I found two towel swans facing each other, their curved necks meeting to form a heart. Scattered around them were rose petals, deep red against the immaculate white linen, some caught in the folds of the towels, others trailing toward the pillows. I wandered toward the bathroom, wondering if the magic of the room carried through beyond the door. A deep soaking tub stretched along one wall, facing a rainfall shower encased in glass. On the counter, sleek black bottles

labelled in gold script read Body Lotion and Liquid Soap, Banyan Tree’s own blends, delicately botanical and soft against the skin.
Flavourful Experiences
As tempting as it was to stay cocooned in the suite, the promise of dinner eventually drew me out. On the 25th floor at Qalamkarri, the lift doors opened to a haze of spice and sound: cumin, cardamom and tandoori smoke mingled with live melodies drifting through the air. Every Thursday, the restaurant brings to life NH44 Night, named after India’s longest highway which connects the country from north to south. Lamb or vegetable biryani, butter chicken, rolls and samosas – the buffet stretched like a map of flavours.
Returning after dinner, I found the room dimmed to an amber glow, curtains drawn and, on the bed, a tiny turtle plush, its shell patterned in shades of brown and green. It waited there as though it had wandered in from the ocean. It made me smile, genuinely. And then, of course, there was the bed itself – wide and deep, dressed in linen so crisp it gave off a faint rustle as I sank into it. Even the pillows were a small luxury of choice: bolster, reading, anti-ageing, viscoelastic – a menu of comfort waiting to be personalised. One quick call to the team, and a fresh set arrived minutes later, fluffed and neatly arranged.
I slept the way one only does in a truly good hotel: deeply, dreamlessly, as if the world outside had been switched off. By morning, sunlight was already spilling through the curtains and I caught that first flicker of hunger that only follows a restful night’s sleep. I dressed and made my way down to Jardin, a sunlit Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. There, I opted for the Healthy Breakfast, a balance between freshness and indulgence. My plate came alive with creamy avocado toast, a quinoa and Greek yoghurt bowl drizzled with honey and a vibrant fruit salad. My partner went in a different direction and tried the Traditional Oriental Breakfast, a generous platter of soft white cheeses, turkey ham, hummus and kibbeh, spinach fatayer and tiny eggplants stuffed with walnuts and chilli.
A Wellness Pause
It was Friday, which in Doha means brunch day, but before surrendering again to temptation, I wanted to slow things down. I couldn’t have chosen a better place to embrace a wellness pause, since it has always been at the heart of Banyan Tree’s philosophy. Tucked a few floors below the hum of the hotel, the spa offered exactly the reset I needed. From the long list of Asian-inspired treatments, I was drawn to the Thai Essence, a traditional dry massage that relies on pressure, assisted stretches and joint mobilisation, rather than oils. It’s designed to improve flexibility, stimulate circulation and restore the body’s natural energy flow. My therapist worked with calm and precision, pressing along energy lines and pausing at key points to release long-held tension I thought would never go away. Right after that, I lingered in the vitality pool, letting the warm water melt away what little fatigue remained. I also tried the herbal sauna scented with chamomile and

mint, the brine steam room and the rainforest walk, a circuit that left me both grounded and light. Lying back on a lounge bed afterwards, wrapped in a robe and sipping ginger tea, I could have spent the whole day there.
Well-being, the Printemps Way
After hours of slow indulgence, I wasn’t quite ready to leave Doha Oasis, so I wandered next door into one of its most talked-about places: Printemps Doha, one of the largest department stores in the Middle East. Walking through its marble halls, I felt an unexpected sense of familiarity. The subtle lighting, the perfume counters, the understated elegance of the space – it all reminded me of my beloved Paris, where I spent the past 11 years.
It was also the perfect excuse to explore Soluna, Printemps’ new wellness department that blends beauty, fashion, lifestyle and gourmet experiences into one seamless world of wellbeing. I was there during the launch, when Printemps hosted a series of immersive ateliers, and I joined a Dore & Rose Sound Bath and Cacao Ceremony, guided by an instructor from Asaya. The experience was deeply soothing and left me with only one desire: to curl up under a soft blanket and drift away.
Yet I resisted the temptation to call it a night. Mosavali, the Georgian restaurant tucked within Printemps, was calling. Georgian cuisine is hard to find in Doha, and this was my first encounter with it. I tried a few of the signatures: the comforting Khachapuri (warm cheese-filled bread), the delicately pleated Khinkali (dumplings filled with minced meat, onions and aromatic broth) and the rich Shkmeruli (grilled chicken in garlic and cream sauce).
The next morning, I had an Italian breakfast at Cova, a stop I can only recommend. The Milanese pasticceria, originally founded in Milan in 1817 by Antonio Cova, felt instantly welcoming and familiar, with a great smell of espresso filling the air. Breakfast was classic and done right: a light omelette, creamy scrambled eggs with cheese and turkey, and a crisp salad on the side. Everything came out beautifully plated, followed by a tray of mini pastries with a note wishing me a great weekend. Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying the real showstopper: the signature tiramisu with its airy layers of mascarpone and coffee-soaked sponge dusted with cocoa, as light as a whisper yet deeply indulgent. Paired with a black coffee, it was like taking a quick trip to Milan and proof that the best journeys don’t need distance, just a pause. For wellness lovers, seekers of balance or simply those craving a breath of calm, Doha Oasis is a destination to return to, not once, but rhythmically. A place where Banyan Tree Doha nurtures the spirit and Printemps Doha inspires the senses. A place where wellness is not an escape, but a way of experiencing life beautifully, intentionally and completely.

FLAVOURS OF LEBANON, FROM MEZZE TO GRILL
Hadag discovered classic cuisine in beautiful surroundings on a visit to Babel at The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl Qatar

On arriving at Babel’s impressive exterior in the evening we were greeted by a convenient valet service before walking through the portico into a space that felt special from the moment we entered. The colour scheme was deliberately restrained, with soft neutrals and warm tones. Tables were spaced comfortably and laid out to emphasise the scale of the room, with clear sightlines across the floor. At the centre sat a piano, a quiet focal point, which gave the space a sense of grandeur. The overall effect was expansive and uncluttered. Outside on the terrace, the mood was different. Tables sat along the water’s edge, the skyline stretching out in the dark. We sat overlooking the harbour, watching the boats drift by as the sun went down. As we settled in, warm bread arrived with pickled artichokes, a tomato and chilli dip and a small bowl of soaked almonds. It was an unshowy but confident opening.
Delightful Appetisers
Soon, dish after dish appeared, filling the table with colour. We were unsure where to begin. The Kebbeh Nayyeh drew us in first, finely worked and silky, the crushed wheat and meat almost indistinguishable, lifted by herbs and rounded with olive oil. It tasted clean, rich and precise. Nearby, vine leaves sat neatly rolled,

tender and yielding, the rice inside lightly perfumed with tomato and parsley, each bite gently acidic and soothing.
Brightness came next through the Tabboulet El Bahar, shrimp folded through wheat sprouts, tomatoes, onion and parsley. It tasted fresh and lightly spiced, the sweetness of the shrimp cutting through the herbs.
No Lebanese table ever really feels complete without hummus. Smooth and comforting, with tahini and lemon gently woven through it, it’s a dish you return to again and again, almost without noticing, between bites of everything else.
The Eggplant Flower delivered a depth of flavour and warmth. The grilled makdous was smoky and soft, enriched by tahini and finished with pine nuts. Amazingly, rather than competing, the dishes complemented one another, encouraging sharing, dipping and revisiting.
Hot Bites
As we were enjoying the last of the cold starters, the hot mezze was served. A sizzling pan of Soujouk sausages led the way, cooked down with tomato, garlic, chilli pepper, onions and potato, comforting and robust, gently spicy, the sauce clinging to each bite.
After that, things got a bit richer. A char-grilled Maajouka kebab came out split open, with mushroom sauce and melted mozzarella inside. The pistachio gave it a nice contrast, and it felt generous and comforting.
Texture took centre stage with the Shrimp Fatteh, crisp fried bread softened just enough by garlic yoghurt, sweet fried eggplant layered through and plump shrimp bringing a clean, savoury finish.
Before the mains arrived, the terrace settled into its own rhythm. Nearby tables were filled with visiting businessmen guided through the menu by Lebanese hosts, dishes explained as they were shared and passed around. Families arrived for later dinners, easing into the evening as conversation levels rose gently. All the while, staff moved through the space with assurance, trays balanced on open palms held high above their heads, weaving effortlessly between tables without breaking stride.
The Main Event
As we relaxed and digested, we saw our mains approach. The Baby Chicken was bronzed and aromatic and the marinade had obviously been doing its job for many hours. The skin carried a gentle char while the flesh beneath stayed impressively juicy. A subtle smokiness ran throughout, not just on the surface, while the chilli potatoes alongside added heat without overwhelming the dish. An intense garlic dip cut through cleanly, sharpening each bite and keeping everything balanced. Alongside it came the show-stopper of the evening: Lamb Cutlets. Each was perfectly charred and evenly cooked, rich without feeling heavy. The meat was tender and full-flavoured, its natural sweetness lifted by a coriander paprika sauce that brought freshness and a soft warmth rather than spice. The roasted potatoes soaked up all the juices and seasoning, grounding everything nicely. It was the kind of cooking that can only come from a chef who’s been doing it for years.
Sweet Endings
The desserts that followed were both indulgent and light. The Knafeh Bohsalino had a satisfying contrast of textures, crispy on the outside and soft within – the sweetness held in check by the nuttiness of pistachio. Ghazlieh closed the meal on a lighter note. It consisted of cool, creamy muhallabieh topped with cotton candy, caramel syrup and toasted crumbs. It was playful but balanced, and somehow nostalgic too, reminding me of childhood treats. By the end of the evening, it was hard not to feel that Babel knew exactly what it was doing. It was Lebanese food cooked with confidence and care, served in a setting that’s genuinely beautiful rather than trying too hard. If you’re looking for authentic Lebanese dining, with generous servings and a view that adds a fitting backdrop to the experience, it’s an absolute must. Go with an appetite, take your time and share the experience with the people you love.

A DELICIOUS NEW CHINESE DINING SPOT

Fernanda Langhammer headed to Mei Ling, in Bahrain’s Adliya district, to discover its secrets.

As a journalist, I love storytelling and I believe everything that comes with a good tale has a deeper value. Mei Ling fits into that category; the destination is not only a restaurant but a concept, born to entice its patrons as they dine on delectable food.
The story behind the eatery is that Mei Ling, a female Chinese royal warrior with a special connection to dragons (hence the restaurant’s logo), creates a secret society to protect and maintain the world’s balance. The existence of this society is known only through whispers travelling with the wind.
Mei Ling, the eatery, carries this perception of mystery and allure and feels extremely exclusive – a dining destination for those who are worthy of being there.
The place feels like a delicious secret, I almost felt I should have been given a password to enter. There is a private car park, a big plus in Adliya, and from the parking area, a path led me to an imposing logo on the wall and an almost-hidden red door opened as if it sensed my presence. Inside, a copper singing bowl sounded, and a voice welcomed me to Mei Ling. At that moment, I knew this was going to be an enthralling experience.
The décor is impressive. The lighting is minimal to maintain the sense of secrecy, with floating lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Dark wood, grey tones and red accents in carved walls and passages complement the enigmatic vibe. The space is massive, with various dining rooms, including the Emerald Oasis and the Bamboo Garden (a beautiful terrace to enjoy on good weather days). We dined in the private room upstairs, and the handrail beside the stairs was covered in greenish leather imitating a dragon’s scales – every detail seemed to belong.
The cuisine is modern Chinese (with Cantonese and Szechuan recipes), interpreted with authentic techniques and a twist: contemporary ingredients and presentation. For my dining journey, the team (special thanks to Omar and Saran) handpicked the dishes – signature and must-try items.
The dinner started with the Crispy Aromatic Duck Salad and Dao Sliced Salmon. The salad came with a mountain of fresh green leaves hiding the crunchy duck pieces. The contrasts of textures and the tanginess of the lemongrass vinaigrette dressing and pomelo segments made this a complete dish, fulfilling and full of flavour. The raw-sliced salmon came bathed in Szechuan truffle sauce, topped with shredded green papaya and sesame seeds – for me, one of the star dishes of the night. The salmon was super thin and soft, which contrasted beautifully with the crunchy papaya. The dressing had an umami-rich blend, with a unique spicy-numbing sensation from the Szechuan peppercorns, complemented by the musky aroma of truffle, a savoury soy base and sweet notes, creating a complex profile that excited my taste buds. Absolutely delicious. I didn’t let them take the plate away until I was sure every last piece was gone.
Next, a variety of appetisers and dim sum. The Crystal Prawn Har Gao was my favourite. These dumplings are usually filled with minced shrimp, but at Mei Ling, it came in big pieces – which seems like a small detail but makes for a big difference – wrapped in a delicate, slightly chewy, translucent dough offering a delightful contrast in textures for an exciting bite. The Xiao Long Bao is a fun dish; its bright green dough encases small pieces of chicken thigh in a warm coriander and Szechuan chilli stock, served with ginger vinegar sauce. Ginger is great to balance the richness of chicken fat. The dumplings come sitting in a special spoon to catch the liquid that pours from the parcels – warm, comforting and perfect for chilly nights. The Jasmine Smoked Wagyu was roasted boneless Wagyu ribs glazed in Chinese honey, sitting atop fried lotus and thin slices of kumquat for a touch of citrus. The meat, as expected, melted in the mouth and delivered the perfect balance between sweet and savoury. We also tried the Truffle Puff, Angus tenderloin with mixed mushrooms encased in buttery Chinese puff pastry, which is flakier than its Western counterpart. It was like opening a little present; yummy and hearty.
The Cantonese Roasted Peking Duck was a show apart. The oven-roasted Chinese-spicemarinated duck came in a special chest and, as soon as the host opened it, smoke filled the room, giving us a hint of the flavour to come. One of the chefs was waiting by our table, ready to slice it skillfully. The meat was tender and soft, and, as one of my dining companions pointed out, because each slice came from different parts of the duck, they had different textures –the ones with fatty skin were juicy and delicious, served with homemade pancakes, thinly sliced cucumber, red chilli, leeks and Hoisin sauce. From the main course section, the Bashu Style Sea Bass blew our minds. Deep-fried fish served with eggplant, tofu, lotus root and chilli broth. Everything was delicious on its own, but a mouthful with a small piece of each ingredient elevated the experience into a delightful surprise. The Sous Vide Angus Short Ribs were perfectly braised, accompanied by mustard leaves and barbecue sauce. The Ha-Haa Prawn was fried prawns coated in a crispy batter and a flavourful sticky chilli sauce – apparently, it was named Ha-Haa because it makes you laugh; at least we all did after our host’s joke, so I guess it works.
To end this magnificent spread, a tray of desserts arrived at our table. We sampled the blueberry cheesecake, crème brûlée, chocolate fondant, apple crumble and fresh fruits such as dragon fruit and mango. They were all very light and not too sweet, but the crème brûlée and chocolate fondant were memorable and the ones we would go back to any day. The dining journey had many wow moments, from theatrical presentations with dry ice and dishes that I am coming back for, to impeccable ambience and good music playing in the background. Mei Ling is the place to be: I uncovered its secrets and became part of this unique society where food does the honours.
