We have officially started winter, although you would never say it on the North Coast.
It is said every year, but it feels true every year, that time goes by rather quickly. The Estate starts to look a bit different as the temperatures drop (by North Coast standards), resulting in changes to our flora. This signals the beginning of our annual winter landscaping programme, which our newly appointed landscaping service provider, Idube Landscaping, is attending to. You might have already seen the team out on our dams clearing vegetation. Speaking of teams out and about, our facilities and maintenance teams have been on Ladlau Drive since March, resurfacing a portion
of the road between Fish Eagle Community Centre and Barringtonia Lane. Earlier this year, the road was assessed by professional engineers, who reported that the layer works had deteriorated due to moisture. We decided to undertake repairs as part of our preventative maintenance programme, and by the time this e-Newsletter is published, relaying of the asphalt should be nearing completion.
Our environmental department will begin rehabilitating the area, which will take some time. Thank you for your patience and understanding during the roadworks, Simbithi.
We have had quite a few special sightings recently, one of which was a Crowned Eagle and its prey, a duiker, on the 13th hole of the golf course. This is exceptional for us as an eco-estate, and it is a testament to the balance we have worked hard to establish and maintain in our ecosystem.

As we head toward the second half of the year, wishing everyone writing mid-year exams all the best, and then a great school holiday in a few weeks. If you are travelling, please stay safe. If you are home for the holidays, enjoy all that our beautiful Estate has to offer.

Friday, 5 June 2026 marks World Environment Day. Established by the United Nations, the annual commemoration aims to highlight conservation and care for the natural environment.
This year, the global theme is #NowForClimate, focusing on climate change and urgent interventions to slow down its damaging effects on our planet.

World Environment Day aims to “raise awareness, inspire change, and drive global action for a healthier, more sustainable planet”. It might sound like a cliché, but we try make every day an Environment Day at Simbithi, particularly as an eco-estate. On World Environment Day, we encourage you to spend some time in the natural wonder of Simbithi: whether it is bird watching on your patio, a walk on one of our trails, or fishing at a dam.

To celebrate Mothers’ Day, we hosted a baking class with Pastry Chef Rahul Bansee. Moms and their kiddos joined us in the Dragonfly Kitchen to learn to make buttery, chewy choc-chip cookies, and turn them into ice-cream sandwiches. A wonderful morning enjoyed by all!

Simbithi is a large, diverse community, and consideration is the foundational key to harmonious living. Disappointingly, our team is receiving increased complaints of loud music, shouting and screaming at properties. This is misaligned with our value of respect, and causes unreasonable disturbance, inconvenience and annoyance. Residents, if you are hosting a gathering at your home, please be considerate of those around you.
Lost & Found
Items that are misplaced around the Estate, particularly in our common areas, are collected and temporarily stored by our security department. Our team then follows a process to attempt to return lost and found items. If items are not claimed within a month, they are then donated to one of our CSI initiatives.
Reporting to Security
Security is a shared responsibility. Residents, please report any suspicious or unlawful occurrence to Security immediately after it has been seen or perceived.

The Spirit of Simbithi: Camaraderie, Respect & Enjoyment
One of the things that makes golf at Simbithi so special is that it has always been about far more than just the scorecard. The true spirit of Simbithi is found in the camaraderie between members, the laughter shared after a round, the friendships built over time, and the welcoming, sociable atmosphere that makes our club such an enjoyable place to spend time.
At Simbithi, we are fortunate to have a vibrant and diverse membership, passionate group leaders, and hardworking staff who together create an environment that many clubs aspire to achieve. Respect for fellow members, visitors, committee members, and staff is therefore essential in maintaining this unique atmosphere.
Whether competing in a competition, enjoying a casual social round, or simply meeting fellow members at the clubhouse, we all play a role in preserving the positive and friendly culture that defines our club.
Simple gestures – greeting fellow players, showing patience during busy periods, respecting pace of play, encouraging newer golfers, and engaging courteously with staff – all contribute to the enjoyable and sociable environment we value so highly.
Golf is at its best when played in the spirit of sportsmanship, mutual respect, common courtesy, and good humour.
Members are also respectfully reminded that our Pro Shop staff deserve the opportunity to enjoy personal and family time outside of working hours. Please refrain from contacting staff after hours or expecting responses outside normal business hours.

In addition, should concerns arise that require committee attention, members are encouraged to submit these in writing through the appropriate channels during business hours rather than expecting immediate answers at the Pro Shop counter. This allows matters to be properly considered and addressed fairly and professionally.
Healthy debate and differing opinions are a natural part of any active club community. However, the way we engage with one another ultimately shapes the culture of our club. Let us continue to uphold the spirit of Simbithi, one built on friendship, respect, enjoyment, sportsmanship, and a shared love of the game.

As we are entering winter, we are excited to announce that Amos and his team are busy with interseeding bent grass on the tee boxes. Tee boxes and greens that are exposed to shade and cooler conditions will benefit from the bent grass, as bent grass prefer a cooler climate. I decided this month to write about our Stroke 1. Mhlabathini means “sandy place” in isiZulu.

The hole plays over 400 meters uphill, on to a stunning infinity green, overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Our 14th hole is our course’s feature hole and regarded as one of the most challenging and aesthetic golf holes in KZN.
Trivia:
The 10th hole at RainDance National Resort & Golf in Colorado is widely recognised as the longest par 4 in the world, playing over 600 yards. This extraordinary hole frequently plays around 605–608 yards, making it longer than many par 5s on other courses.
