Turku NS Head of Jury vision

Hei ystävät! Dia dhaoibh a chairde! Hello friends! Today is an exciting day, because it is today that I have a chance to tell you reading this right now about an experience I am greatly excited to be a part of, and one that will weave into the fabric of who you are, forever, should you apply! Naturally, you may think that I’m going to use this opportunity to try to convince you to join my team here in the beautiful Turku, but that is not my objective. Today, I want to tell you about what learning experience you can create for yourself and those around you at Turku 2023, it won’t just go through what I wish to offer you as future Jury Members but also what part you will have in shaping this story too, because this is not my own vision, nor any Head of Jury’s vision, but a vision of a united Jury Team which will grow and develop, as its vision does. From there, whether you take the next step and leap into the deep end of this new world of adventure, storytelling and learning is up to you. What I wish to offer you Two people given the same tool, can use it for wildly different purposes. Even something as simple as an orange can be used by one for nourishment and another to cover the green world with orange trees. It can be easy to jump to conclusions, deciding that one use was wiser than the other, but what if this orange was the last morsel to eat in a never-ending desert? The reality is that everyone learns in different ways and everyone approaches the learning opportunities they receive in different ways because of that. So, it is my job as Head of Jury, not to put you down a certain path of learning, nor to judge you for the one you take, but simply to give you the tools you need to head down the road which is best for you. I will use the experiences I have been so fortunate to have in EYP to create a learning environment which is innovative, fun and as challenging or relaxed, and as rewarding, as you wish it to be. There will be no modules where I tell you what is red and what is blue, but instead ones where you can through your own actions discover the answers for yourself, and perhaps so much more. I will delve into what this means in practice when I discuss what your role in the Jury Team’s story will be, but to put it simply, my role as Head of Jury, is, rather ironically, not to judge, but instead, to facilitate your learning, giving you everything you need be it interactive learning experiences, be it encouragement, or be it just listening to your thoughts and supporting your ever-development. How *YOU* will shape Turku 2023 Rather than take the path you choose alone, at this session, you will have the chance to shape the path that the Jury Team as a whole takes, and define through which lens they transform the very fabric of the session. Every discussion be it around the way we score delegates, be it how we intertwine empathy and equity into our decisions, be it what role we take in the personal development of delegates will be that, a discussion, shared decision making and approaches we have a stake in, will be a core part of the identity of this Jury Team and a key part of building your character as a leader.
