Pinktacular

SURVIVOR LUNCHEON AND FASHION SHOW

October 9, 2025 ~ Milwaukee, WI

The of

Pinktacular Heartbeat

The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse Pinktacular Luncheon succeeds because it is more than a fundraiser. It is a space where creativity meets compassion, where fashion lifts up survivors, and where every participant, whether on the runway or in the audience, feels part of something bigger than themselves.

n n n

THE PINKTACULAR transforms the idea of a fashion show from a fleeting display into a powerful act of solidarity. Guests leave inspired and moved, carrying a renewed determination to help create a world where fewer people face cancer’s challenges.

In Wisconsin’s vibrant charity event landscape, the Pinktacular Luncheon stands apart. The moment you enter, you can feel the room’s heartbeat. For the Showhouse designers, it is a chance to be surrounded by the very heart of the cause they pour their talent into. Faces of survivors, their families, and their supporters fill the room, each one a living reminder of why every late night and creative detail mattered. In those moments, the beauty they have built becomes more than décor; it becomes a backdrop for healing, connection, and purpose.

This event offers designers a rare gift: to see their work as part of a much larger story and to feel, firsthand, its impact on a cause so deeply worth fighting for. Watching survivors take the stage, some nervous, some beaming, and others playful with gratitude, reaffirms that their efforts truly make a difference. It is about connection, self-expression, and moments that matter.

News anchor Joyce Garbaciak will once again graciously serve as emcee. Each year, she delivers a heartfelt speech paired with lively commentary, sharing survivors’ stories and celebrating the fashion itself. The Pinktacular takes guests on an emotional journey filled with laughter, tears, joy, and a renewed appreciation for life’s deeper meaning. n

A Uniquely Impactful Community Of Like-Minded Individuals

NOW IN ITS 27TH YEAR, WBCS IS MARKING A SIGNIFICANT, MEASURABLE RESEARCH IMPACT OF

$157.665 MILLION.

n n n

WBCS WAS FOUNDED as a charitable organization in 1998, with the intent of raising funds to advance breast cancer research. One might even say it began on a wing and a prayer, with its founder, Nancé Kinney—a then recent breast cancer survivor—marshaling a small group of friends to help her create a WBCS Showhouse as a means to raise those funds.

Despite the odds, this fledgling effort was successful enough to allow WBCS to make its first investment of $42,000 to the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center (MCWCC). That initial donation was a catalyst for MCWCC scientists to embark on novel breast cancer research that might otherwise have gone unfunded. Early-stage prostate cancer research was later added as a focus of the group’s support, as well.

The initial small group of friends engaged their networks to increase the number of volunteers and to solicit creative ideas on how to expand the organization’s reach. In its second year, a luncheon and survivor fashion show—now called the Pinktacular Event—was added to augment the second annual Showhouse fundraiser. Other annual fundraising events soon followed. Through the efforts of countless volunteers, WBCS has become the largest annual philanthropic donor for adult cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center.

The Pinktacular Event, emceed by Joyce Garbaciak for many years, is an annual celebration of survivors who walk the runway accompanied by a support person important to their breast cancer or prostate cancer treatment journey. Hair and makeup, clothing, and run-of-show planning are donated by generous salons, boutiques and volunteers.

Generous event sponsors leverage Pinktacular’s attendance revenue to invest in our mission to support early stage breast cancer and prostate cancer research. Guests attending the event always leave inspired by the courageous stories of our survivor models. Pinktacular‘s heartwarming, celebratory ambiance

“WBCS philanthropy is a model of what can be accomplished by passionate, like-minded individuals who come together in partnership with gifted scientists to advance discoveries.”

Gustavo Leone, PhD.

$1,849,000

is an expression in real time of the “why” of our mission. Survivors often comment that participating as a model or volunteer has helped their emotional healing. For many, the Pinktacular Event is a day where hope meets celebration in a festive way.

Now in its 27th year, WBCS is marking a significant, measurable research impact of $157.665 million.

Its cumulative investment is $7.765 million to fund research awards, to endow WBCS professorships in breast cancer and prostate cancer research and the newly established WBCS Endowed Innovative Research Fund, which is expected to kickstart novel, peerreviewed proposals into discoveries to advance personalized medicine. To date, WBCS-funded researchers have leveraged WBCS awards into a substantial return on investment of $149.9 million in external research funding. That sum increases year by year, in addition to WBCS research investments.

WBCS funding is impactful far beyond the hallowed halls of our local academic medical center. The collaboration among cancer researchers worldwide, along with increasing technological breakthroughs, facilitate “aha” moments, with discoveries made in one discipline providing insights into addressing other confounding disease inquiries. A dollar’s investment in one cancer can be said to be a potential investment in all cancers.

According to MCW Cancer Center Director Gustavo Leone, PhD, “WBCS philanthropy is a model of what can be accomplished by passionate, like-minded individuals who come together in partnership with gifted scientists to advance discoveries.”

WBCS is a uniquely impactful community of “like-minded individuals” who together play critical roles in support of fundraising initiatives that support discoveries. As researchers and clinicians work together to translate those discoveries into new treatment options, survival becomes possible where once there was no hope. Together, we are changing the odds in favor of survival. Together, we are impactful change makers individually and collectively, as we work in community to defeat cancer and save lives. n

THESE RUGS TELL MORE than just the story of a people—they carry the heartbeat of a way of life that has endured for centuries. The nomadic Persians live with few possessions, traveling lightly across vast landscapes of rolling hills, open plains, and starlit deserts. Yet within their modest tents lies an abundance that cannot be measured in material wealth: joy, hospitality, and a deep reverence for the beauty of everyday life. You can feel this spirit in every knot, every thread, every color that dances across their woven creations. To them, a rug is not simply a floor covering— it is an heirloom, a memory keeper, and a silent storyteller. Each pattern is drawn from traditions passed down through generations, yet shaped by the hands and heart of the individual weaver.

A Story of nomadic Persian life

Rugs are one of the only arts to incorporate philosophy, architecture, nature, and poetry, all into one art – the carpet.

The Craftsmanship

Creating one of these rugs is a patient and deeply personal process. Every strand of wool is hand-spun, often from the flock the family tends themselves, giving the fiber a softness and strength that machine-made yarns cannot replicate. The dyes are prepared using centuries-old methods— extracting rich reds from madder root, sunny yellows from pomegranate rind, and cool indigos from fermented leaves. Each color is achieved through careful timing, skillful blending, and an intimate understanding of nature’s rhythms. The weaving itself is done entirely by hand on simple looms, often set up inside a family tent or beneath an open sky. The weaver works knot by knot, row by row, with a precision that comes

only from years of practice. This is not a hurried craft; some rugs can take months, even years, to complete, depending on their size and complexity. Subtle irregularities—slight shifts in pattern or tone—are celebrated, for they mark the individuality of the maker.

The Tree of Life

Among their most beloved motifs is the Tree of Life—a symbol of renewal and the eternal bond between humanity and nature. Its flowing form,

free of fixed direction, reflects the adaptability of nomadic life. Colors drawn from earth, sky, and season root each rug in the landscapes from which it was born.

Every rug is a visual diary, a oneof-a-kind work of art shaped by the imagination of its maker. Placed in any home, it offers more than decoration: it radiates warmth, sparks conversation, and carries forward the timeless spirit of the nomadic Persian people. n

NESTLED ON 13 PRIVATE ACRES bordering Lapham Peak State Park, this retreat offers peace, privacy, and timeless beauty—just one mile from I-94 and only 25 miles from downtown Milwaukee. Exceptional in location and design, it offers sweeping private views of nature and the vast expanse of the State Park—making this home a rare find.

A family room with a raised beamed ceiling is centered around a fireplace with Delft-blue tiles, hand-selected in the Netherlands.

The heart of the home is the kitchen and dining area, featuring granite counters, an English slate-topped island, and premium appliances by Wolf, Bosch, and Sub-Zero.

The main-level primary suite is a true sanctuary, complete with an adjacent private office crowned by a coffered ceiling. Its soaring bedroom ceilings are anchored by a 130-yearold marble fireplace with a sculpted bronze cover plate—a historic piece once housed in the Chicago Embroidery Company, adding legacy and character.

The exposed walkout lower level offers flexibility with a spacious bedroom, a bunk room perfect for children, a full bath, and a large gathering room warmed by a stone fireplace. Expansive windows here continue to frame the surrounding natural beauty, making this space ideal for family living or entertaining.

History graces the land as well. Low stone fences, remnants of the original 40-acre farmstead, still trace the property’s borders. The cream city brick farmhouse built in 1884 still remains. There are three outbuildings constructed from reclaimed Wisconsin farm beams and logs—now serving as sheep barns and an equipment shed.

Here, early morning fog drifts across the pond, the harvest moon lights the pastures, and woodland trails invite exploration by foot or ATV.

This peaceful sanctuary is a nature lover’s dream and a private haven—a rare opportunity where elegance, comfort, and natural beauty come perfectly together. n Timeless Elegance n n n

KitchenStyles Fresh

n n n

IF YOU’RE CONSIDERING a kitchen renovation, you’ve probably heard cautions about avoiding overly trendy designs that can diminish your home’s value and limit its appeal to future buyers. That’s sound advice, but many of this year’s trends are relatively neutral and have long-term staying power.

Kitchen upgrades are typically all about making practical updates to meet the needs of a family. The key to smart design is incorporating functional elements a family requires while striking a balance between style and trends that quickly become outdated.

Before you dive into a kitchen project, consider these on-trend design recommendations from the experts at Wellborn Cabinet.

Add Health-Focused Features

As the hub of nutrition, it’s no surprise wellness design features are making their way into the kitchen. Some examples include appliances with air frying or steaming features, and double ovens are appearing in more homes, making home meals for the family easier to manage. Also look for technology that simplifies meal planning

planning and managing your pantry inventory, as well as features that regulate food storage temperatures more precisely, including during power outages.

Shift Back to Wood Stains

Painted cabinets had their moment, but the latest designs are revealing a movement back toward warm wood grains, specifically oak. As trends continue to shift toward embracing natural elements, as well as exploring diverse color palettes, cabinet manufacturers are constantly innovating to meet the demands of consumers and design professionals alike.

Dedicate Space for Beverages

Food prep may be a mainstay in functional kitchen design, but a growing number of homeowners are calling beverages a close second with the addition of built-in coffee bars or smoothie stations and specialized storage for beer and wine. Countertop or supplementary nugget ice makers are another example of trending kitchen accessories that reinforce a growing focus on beverages for all occasions.

Kitchen islands are hardly a new design element, but an increasing number of homeowners are making them a major focus of their renovations…that’s extra prep space, but also more room for casual seating or socializing.

Don’t throw anything away, including what you think is trash, before a free consultation.

To elevate contemporary cabinetry design, Wellborn Cabinet introduced captivating finishes that celebrate natural materials and textures. Inspired by the highly desired white oak at a more accessible price point, Boardwalk offers a breath of fresh air, allowing the unique oak wood grain to take center stage. The striking finish of Peppermill introduces a versatile darker brown hue with a subtle gray undertone, adding depth, dimension and sophistication. If you’re not quite ready to fully embrace natural wood tones, Alabaster may be a perfect alternative; this hue provides the timeless elegance of neutral white.

Go for Contemporary Cabinetry

Your kitchen’s cabinet doors play an important role in defining your design aesthetic. Consider Wellborn’s wide variety of door styles, several of which have been redesigned to support the trend toward a simpler, smaller rail that’s in favor among designers and homeowners alike. With softer, more up-to-date appearances, they feature eased profiles to produce simple, straight, clean appearances. Options like Breckenridge and Ridgebrook offer updates to the modified shaker style with a clean, modern, less clunky aesthetic. Made of quality, solid wood, they feature a reversed raised center panel to coordinate with a variety of design styles.

Embrace the Middle Ground

Kitchen islands are hardly a new design element, but an increasing number of homeowners are making them a major focus of their renovations. A kitchen trends study by Houzz revealed 42% of homeowners are opting for islands that are 7 feet long or more. That’s extra prep space, but also more room for casual seating or socializing while hosting. Also gaining popularity are double islands for double the workspace.

Skip Bland Backsplash Tile

The wall space between your countertops and upper cabinets may not amount to much, but it’s a sure place to make a style statement. This year’s designers are saying farewell to stark white subway tile backsplashes. Instead, natureand earth-inspired tones are trending. You can still use subway tile but consider a variation from the traditional stacked design. Texture is another option for modernizing your backsplash; think handcrafted tiles or earthy textures but take care to avoid overly busy patterns.

This fascia hides scratches and fingerprints, plus, it holds paint for the look you want. Tricycle door hangers feature a quick disconnect clip system, making it a snap to mount and dismount door panels. These hangers are also readily adjustable for height in case of settling.

In addition, Johnson’s innovative soft-close feature for smooth, quiet, fingertip-touch door operation is available for a variety of bypass hardware kits, as well as pocket door and wall mount door hardware kits. Soft-close technology slows down door speed gradually, preventing slamming and finger pinching for carefree use.

Ideal for converting a closet into a neat, discrete laundry area, sliding bypass door hardware is right at home in second-floor laundry areas or residences where space is precious, such as condos and townhouses. Bypass doors save 14 square feet of floor space over swinging doors, which can be used for furniture, storage and decor.

Bypass hardware offers many fresh options for configuring interiors. Gliding on separate tracks, bypass doors overlap for wide entryways everyone can easily use and allow quick access to items. When closed, wooden doors offer extra privacy and quiet. Combined metal-andglass doors create an open-air aesthetic.

COMPREHENSIVE LAND SOLUTIONS A Guide to

n n n

Wisconsin Land Management’s All-In-One Services

IN THE DYNAMIC LANDSCAPE OF WISCONSIN, from the lush growth of summer to the profound stillness of winter, property owners face a variety of challenges in maintaining and enhancing their land. Whether it’s a smallscale yard cleanup or a large-scale construction project, a comprehensive approach is essential for success. The team at Wisconsin Land Management, led by owner Cody Kruse, stands as a premier partner for these endeavors, offering a complete suite of services that not only get the job done but also streamline the entire process. From the foundational work of excavation to the practical necessity of waste removal, their expertise provides a seamless, stress-free experience for landowners across the state.

Clearing the Path

Land Clearing and Forestry Mulching

Every major land project begins with a clean slate. Land clearing is the crucial first step, and Wisconsin Land Management approaches it with precision and efficiency. Whether you’re reclaiming an overgrown field, preparing a site for a new building, or simply expanding your usable yard, their team uses specialized equipment to thoroughly and safely remove any unwanted obstacles. This service is

foundational for fire prevention, increasing property value, and creating a blank canvas for future development. It’s an essential service for transforming a cluttered, unusable space into a functional and beautiful part of your property.

For a more sustainable and environmentally conscious approach, the company also specializes in forestry mulching. This innovative technique is an all-in-one solution for clearing dense vegetation. Instead of traditional methods that require burning or hauling away debris, a forestry mulcher grinds trees, brush, and stumps into a fine layer of mulch. This organic material is then left on the ground, where it acts as a natural soil enhancer, preventing erosion, suppressing weeds, and returning vital nutrients to the earth. Forestry mulching is an ideal choice for creating firebreaks, clearing trails, or managing invasive species, proving that effective land management can go hand-in-hand with ecological stewardship.

The Blueprint for Success

Land Grading and Excavation

Once a site is cleared, the next critical phase is preparing the ground itself. Proper site preparation is arguably the most important step for any construction or landscaping project,

Grading
Grading

and land grading and excavation are at the heart of this process. The team at Wisconsin Land Management is equipped to handle a wide range of tasks, from minor digging to mass earthmoving projects, ensuring that every foundation is set on solid ground. Their expertise ensures this work is done with the utmost precision, as proper excavation is a major factor in the stability and longevity of any structure.

Complementing their excavation work is their expert land grading. An improperly graded property can lead to a host of expensive problems, including poor drainage, standing water, and foundation damage, especially in a climate with Wisconsin’s freeze-thaw cycles. By carefully grading the land, the professionals at Wisconsin Land Management ensure that water is directed away from critical areas, protecting your investment and preserving the integrity of the soil. This foresight and attention to detail set the tone for the entire project, ensuring it proceeds smoothly from start to finish.

The Final Piece of the Puzzle

Demolition and Dumpster Rentals

Many land projects, whether they involve new construction or simple lot cleanup, create significant amounts of debris and waste.

This is where Wisconsin Land Management’s comprehensive approach truly shines. They not only handle the heavy lifting but also provide the final, crucial step of cleanup. Their demolition services are designed for the safe and efficient removal of unwanted structures, from old sheds and small buildings to concrete pads and more.

To make the cleanup process as simple as possible, they offer a full-service dumpster rental program. This is a game-changer for homeowners, contractors, and businesses. The convenience and efficiency of this service directly address one of the most significant headaches of any project, from a home renovation to a major land-clearing operation: waste management. Instead of spending valuable time and effort making repeated trips to the dump in a truck or car, you can choose the perfect container for your needs and let the professionals handle the rest.

Wisconsin Land Management provides a variety of dumpster sizes to perfectly match the scale of your project. For smaller jobs like a garage cleanout or a minor landscaping refresh, their 13-yard dumpster offers ample space without overwhelming your property. If you’re tackling a larger project, such as a major room remodel or a significant demolition, the 17-yard option provides the ideal capacity. For the most extensive projects, including full home demolitions or large-scale construction, the 21-yard dumpster offers the robust capacity needed to contain all waste materials efficiently. This versatility ensures you never pay for more space than you need, while still having the peace of mind that all debris will be handled in one go.

Beyond just size, the service is built on flexibility. ARE YOU, AS WAS Martha of Bible days, “troubled about many things?” Are you weary of the relentless routine of an apparently purposeless existence? Are you fearful of the future? Does sleep evade you and despair engulf you as you turn restlessly from one problem to another?

Would it help you to be reminded of how the Nazarene carpenter met every adverse situation? He cut instantly through the obstructing mist whether it was occasioned by ignorance, stupidity or spiritual blindness, and turned directly to the Father within. He admitted frankly, “Of mine own self I can do nothing. The Father within He doeth the works.” Consequently, that complete reliance upon the invisible power within him, brought into acknowledgeable visibility the needed result.

Surely no one can forget the remarkable account of how Lazarus was restored to life. The stone was taken away from the entrance to the tomb; “and Jesus lifted up his eyes; and said, Father, I thank thee that thou has heard me. And I know that thou hearest me always.” And Lazarus came forth. Nor was there the slightest doubt in Jesus’ mind but that the power of God was operating at that moment when it was most needed.

The advice of the Nazarene carpenter to all who listened was “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” In other words,

cease from taking thought about the problem; drop it and turn directly to the God-presence and God-power that are constantly, hence immediately available to you because of your oneness with the Father. Do you know of any greater comfort to be found anywhere than in the words “I and my Father are one?” To recognize the power in that statement and then dwell in meditation upon it is to lift oneself from the material plane of humanhood to an ever-ascending spiritual plane whose foundation can never crumble because it is built upon every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Let us cease our struggles to solve the problems that beset us. Let us follow the example of the Nazarene carpenter and turn directly to the assuring presence of the Father within. Let us also take literally, “The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me,” and let us rest in it. Let us rest, however, in faith, nothing wavering for as James said, “...he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.”

The key to arriving at that spiritual plateau where problems can no longer buffet us about, where peace within is assured is a simple five-letter word, faith. Faith that the invisible within Power will manifest itself visibly in the meeting of our need. However, if we would acquire spiritual faith, let us be certain to practice it. n
