Our History Where it All Began Brookhaven may be one of Georgia’s younger cities, officially incorporated on December 17, 2012, but its history stretches back to the Muscogee Creek and early settlers who shaped the land. By the 1910s, Atlanta residents were drawn to this corner of DeKalb County to build Georgia’s first planned golf club community, setting the stage for a community that continues to feel like a getaway. More than a century later, the city has grown to encompass 12-squaremiles of gorgeous greenery woven together by five distinct and vibrant neighborhoods.

Murphey Candler Where Nature Sprawls Murphey Candler sits at Brookhaven’s northern edge, and it’s one of the few neighborhoods where the city rests against the perimeter of Highway 285. As a neighborhood that affords as much public green space as living space, it might be the first destination you plug into your GPS if you’re planning to spend a day outdoors. Murphey Candler Park and its idyllic lake, scenic walking trails and countless amenities (more on that on page 22) are a 135-acre haven amidst city skylines.

Where the Streets Come Alive Perhaps strolling along with a beverage in hand is your goal, in which case, Dresden is the place to be. The locale is as exceedingly cool by day as it is at night, so its title as Brookhaven’s official Entertainment District is well-deserved. Spend the afternoon drifting in and out of local shops and eateries, then settle in as patios fill for live music.

Where Cultures Converge Ask any resident where to get great food and the odds are high that Buford Highway will enter the conversation. This Culture Corridor boasts some of Georgia’s best international dining. Authentic Mexican, Peruvian, Ethiopian and Chinese dishes are on the menu, but that’s just starters: countless restaurants occupy the three-mile stretch. Little wonder, then, that this vibrant district also hosts the Brookhaven International Festival each fall.

Blackburn Park Where Neighbors Get Moving If striking up some friendly competition is in your weekend playbook, then you’ve met your match in Blackburn Park. Baseball diamonds, tennis courts and mixed-use fields are up for the game, so long as you BYOB (ball, that is). The park is wrapped up in tree-lined trails that beckon to be traipsed by nature-lovers and step-counters alike. Celebrate Here Where Your Plans Are Made Holiday Events LI G H T U P B R O O K H AV E N The holidays have officially arrived when Light Up Brookhaven flips the switch. Each December at Blackburn Park, neighbors and visitors alike gather for holiday tunes, giveaways and food trucks. Little ones can enjoy train rides, bounce houses, crafts and visiting with Santa, who swoops in via helicopter. Amidst all the festive feels is the star of the show: the lighting of our 40-foot Christmas tree and our Hanukkah menorah.
