Coproducing Prison Release Pathways in Stoke-on-Trent presents a collaborative, evidence-informed exploration of the challenges faced by people experiencing multiple disadvantage when leaving prison. Developed by VOICES between 2016 and 2021, the report brings together insights from lived experience, frontline practitioners, and partner organisations to examine gaps in current release processes. It highlights persistent barriers such as homelessness, fragmented communication, limited pre-release support, and unrealistic expectations on the day of release (see findings on page 4).
Through a co-production approach, the report sets out practical, system-level recommendations across key areas including housing, communication, welfare benefits, employment, peer mentoring, and gender-responsive support. It emphasises the importance of coordinated, trauma-informed, and person-centred approaches, alongside stronger partnership working.
