This follow-up report by Expert Citizens CIC highlights the barriers faced by people experiencing homelessness when accessing GP services in Stoke-on-Trent. Led by individuals with lived experience of multiple disadvantage, Expert Citizens play a central role in shaping the research, raising awareness, and challenging stigma within healthcare systems (see introduction, page 3).
Through partnership with Keele University and VOICES, the report combines lived experience insight with practical research methods to uncover gaps in knowledge, inconsistent practices, and systemic barriers—such as requirements for ID or proof of address. It also showcases how Expert Citizens actively drive change, from developing GP access cards to influencing training and practice improvements.
Ultimately, this publication demonstrates the power of lived experience in identifying inequalities and working collaboratively with services to create more inclusive, accessible healthcare for all.
