2026 PROGRAM CATALOG

Welcome to all future teen travelers!

It’s a rare and special thing to look back after twenty years and see all that’s grown from those first Global Leadership Adventures summers. We’ve been at this long enough to hear from people who joined GLA as teens and now, as adults, reach out to tell us how their summer with us shaped the way they see the world and the path they’ve taken since. Hearing that never loses its impact and reminds us how many people have helped shape GLA along the way, from our team to the community partners who make these experiences possible.

Across the world, many of those partners, mentors and families have continued to share their generosity and insight with new generations of students. Some have been with us since the beginning, guiding how we approach service learning and helping define what GLA stands for today. The trust and collaboration built through those long-standing relationships remain at the heart of everything we do.

As we look toward summer 2026, we’re excited to keep building on that foundation. We’re adding new destinations and programs that offer new ways to engage with the world while helping students grow as global citizens at a time when connection, compassion and crosscultural understanding matter more than ever. Our internships are also growing, offering hands-on learning while helping students build future-ready skills.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’re discovering GLA for the first time or returning for another summer of adventure and impact, we’re glad you’re here.

OUR MISSION

is and will always be to inspire the next generation to realize their potential to transform the world and their unique role in it.

PEOPLE USING BUSINESS AS A FORCE FOR GOOD

ABOUT GLA

At Global Leadership Adventures, we believe mindful travel has the power to transform young lives. Our programs go beyond seeing a new place. They combine meaningful service, hands-on learning and thoughtful curriculum that inspire students to grow as mindful global citizens.

GLA offers a fresh approach to service-learning and exploration abroad for curious, socially-minded teens. Our goal is to provide life-changing experiences that cultivate openmindedness, leadership and a global perspective, empowering students to make a positive impact both abroad and in their own communities. We offer programs across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas for students ages 11-18.

For over 20 years, GLA has been at the forefront of transformative teen travel. In that time, more than 30,000 students have embarked on life-changing journeys in 30 countries worldwide, collectively contributing over 1 million service hours to support locally-driven community goals. From protecting marine ecosystems to addressing local public health challenges, our students have made a meaningful difference while developing the confidence, empathy and skills to lead with purpose.

Here, you can learn more about our 5-Point Safety System, our proprietary leadership curriculum, our various lodging types and more about what your Global Leadership Adventures experience will look like.

Following the introductory pages, you will find more information about our various academic program and internship themes and a program and internship comparison chart where you and your family can compare the various offerings that GLA will be heading to this upcoming Spring and Summer.

Under each program listing you will find:

• Button to visit the website program page to view session dates, sample itineraries and more

Throughout this catalog, you will see some of our program sessions marked with a STAR. These are our 21-Day Programs. GLA participants have reported that our 21-Day Programs offer the optimal amount of time to develop friendships with locals and their peers, make a more significant impact on the community and fully immerse themselves in the culture. Our 21-Day Programs provide more weekend excursions, volunteer service opportunities and leadership training than are available on our shorter programs.

LEADERSHIP & INTENTIONAL PROGRAM DESIGN

GLA programs create ambitious, ethical leaders.

We believe leaders are made, not born and that leadership is a life skill meant to be developed. From exploring different leadership styles to encouraging students to step out of their comfort zone and take on responsibilities within the group, GLA weaves its leadership curriculum throughout all aspects of the experience. Every site visit, cultural workshop and community service project brings an opportunity to put new skills into practice. Students exercise their leadership potential intelligently and compassionately, using this framework to shape their personal development and deepen their understanding of the wider world.

Every GLA program is crafted with intention.

Our programs aren’t vacations, though there’s no shortage of fun to be had, but rather journeys with many layers.

No adventure excursion is just for fun. All activities are carefully selected to maximize enjoyment and align with our program learning objectives, allowing us to deliver a cohesive and meaningful experience. Every activity is an opportunity to learn about ourselves and the world. Get up close with marine life on a snorkeling excursion, then hear from a local expert on the impact of ocean pollution in the region. Immerse yourself in local culture through cooking and art workshops, then reflect on how these values influence our interactions with the community at our service site.

Each activity, discussion and service project works in harmony to add depth and quality to the experience, far beyond what you’d find in a typical trip or camp.

Learn to lead “The GLA Way”

The GLA Leadership Curriculum™ consists of the following five branches that are brought to life on every program through engaging discussions, role plays and interactive activities tailored to each program.

THE GLA DIFFERENCE

5-POINT SAFETY SYSTEM™

Safety is our top priority. While we encourage students to step outside their comfort zones, our 5-Point Safety System™ supports their health and well-being at every stage of the journey. These rigorous standards are woven into all GLA programs, providing peace of mind for students and families alike.

Safe, Secure Lodging

Our GLA Home Base is a welcoming hub for rest, reflection and team building after active days.

Caring Supervision & Expert Local Knowledge

GLA policy is for no student to ever be by themselves outside of the Home Base. Our 6:1 student-to-staff ratio, buddy system and expert local partners provide attentive guidance and support.

Safe Transportation

From airport pickup to daily travel, students are transported safely by licensed drivers or supervised public transit, depending on location.

Healthy Meals & Pure Water

Healthy, balanced meals are prepared fresh daily by Home Base staff or vetted restaurants. Students will enjoy a mix of local cuisine and common staples.

24/7 Support & Emergency Response:

You will have access to a 24/7 dedicated hotline and on-the-ground support while your group is en route and at its destination. In case of emergency, we activate local resources, provide evacuation and secondary medical insurance for those traveling internationally and professional medical support is available to our teams 24/7 when specialized guidance is needed.

FULL PARENTAL SUPPORT

We understand it can be challenging to entrust your child to others, that’s why we provide superior support every step of the way.

Pre-Departure: Our team assists with flight bookings, passport and visa guidance, and full access to the GLA Travel Portal.

In-Country: Parents receive peace of mind with a 24-hour emergency hotline, direct communication in case of emergencies or major changes and regular blog updates with photos and stories from the field.

Post-Program: We follow up with every family for feedback and share opportunities for continued alumni engagement.

EXPERT STAFF

GLA’s program staff are passionate educators and teen experts.

We hire knowledgeable, responsible and engaging individuals because we know that the right leaders make all the difference in creating a safe, comfortable and inclusive learning environment. Students are guided by Program Directors and Mentors with years of professional experience working with youth.

More than 60% of our Directors and Mentors return year after year with some for as many as seven years helping to bring consistency, expertise and heart to each program. In addition, over 85% of our Local Directors return to help lead programs, ensuring every experience benefits from authentic cultural insight and a strong connection to the host community.

Our team includes former Peace Corps volunteers, alumni of renowned educational institutions and seasoned travelers adept at facilitating cross-cultural exchange. Whatever their background, our staff transform a program from a simple trip into a life-changing journey.

HOME BASE LODGING

We provide lodging that’s out of the ordinary.

On a GLA adventure, you might stay in a zen-like ecolodge in the lush Caribbean jungle, a traditional Lapa or dorm-style rooms in a campus setting.

EXCLUSIVE HOTEL BLOCK

These may resemble large Western hotels back home or be smaller, locally-owned properties where we stay in an exclusive floor or wing.

RUSTIC VILLAS

Detached structures that offer comfortable living with plenty of open space.

COZY GUESTHOUSE

Modest properties in a cozy setting where students may interact with their host, eat together and share common areas.

ENCLOSED COMPOUND

Several buildings in a gated enclosure, often including detached guest quarters and a separate dining area in an intimate space.

TRADITIONAL BUNGALOWS

Detached structures, often featuring openair construction in remote locations, close to nature and the local culture.

ECOLODGE

Remote residences located in natural environments, with hosts who emphasize harmony with the local environment.

DORM-STYLE

Classic dorm rooms on a college-like campus. May feature bunk beds, common spaces and shared amenities.

BED & BREAKFAST

Homey, quaint accommodations with a cozy atmosphere, comfy beds and inviting common spaces.

CAMPING

Sleep overnight in tents. Expect sleeping bags, campfires and ample time outdoors.

LOCAL PARTNERS

Partnerships pave the path to sustainable development.

At GLA, we recognize that working with local partners is a fundamental part of effective community service and responsible travel. Our partners provide critical context that only a resident can give, and grant our students insider access to authentic experiences. GLA’s local partners are a core part of our global family, and many have been working with us for years. Students interact with and learn from partners, ranging from founders of NGOs to local educators, host families and area experts.

FELLOWSHIPS

Global Leadership Adventures Fellowships allow academically and creatively gifted students to build on their GLA program experience with a curriculum that highlights and recognizes their achievements. Beyond the core GLA journey, Fellows take on an additional layer of learning and reflection, culminating in a meaningful final project. The majority of the work happens after the program, with optional yet recommended pre-program coursework to complete before departure.

Fellows are typically high-achieving high school students—motivated, eager to go the extra mile and committed to producing thoughtful projects that reflect both their skills and their GLA experience. All successful Fellows receive personalized feedback, a Certificate of Achievement and other tokens of recognition to help them with the next stage of their academic or artistic journey.

Arts & Letters Fellowship

The Arts & Letters Fellowship challenges students to translate their GLA experience into a creative work of art. Fellows choose a concentration in Creative Writing, Photography or Videography, and use their travels as inspiration to tell a story with depth and meaning. Whether it’s a short story, documentary film or photographic journal, this fellowship encourages students to grow as artists and storytellers while reflecting on the cultural immersion, service and adventures they’ve experienced.

Honors Fellowship

The Honors Fellowship is designed for students eager to think critically about global issues through an academic lens. Fellows select a concentration in Animal & Wildlife Conservation, Community Development, Environmental Stewardship or Medicine & Public Health, then craft a critical essay rooted in their program experience. This fellowship deepens students’ understanding of real-world challenges and empowers them to connect their passions with the work of creating positive change.

Service Fellowship

The Service Fellowship allows students to build on their volunteer work during their GLA program by earning an additional 24 to 40 certified service hours through deeper reflection and analysis of their impact. While in-country, Fellows are guided through a five-step impact design process that begins with defining their mission and ends with assessing its outcomes. They are supported with structured reflection activities and resources that help them connect their service learning with the larger global context of the issues they explored. This process leads to a final impact report that documents how their service contributed to local goals and their own growth as changemakers.

All GLA Fellowships are self-driven, designed for determined young creatives and thinkers who want to push themselves beyond the standard experience. They provide a unique opportunity to turn travel into a lasting contribution, whether through art or analysis.

PROGRAM THEMES

Program and internship themes give you the chance to explore a topic tied to your future career, studies or personal passions. For some, themes guide the choice of program. For others, they help refine the kind of experience they’re seeking. Themes shape service projects, immersive learning and Mentor-led discussions, offering a path to self-discovery and core learning objectives.

INTRODUCTION TO SERVICE LEARNING ADVENTURES &

INTERNSHIPS

Service Learning Adventures & Internships

Students looking to explore the world with purpose can choose from two transformative paths: Service Learning Adventures or Internships. Both offer the chance to connect with communities, experience new cultures and grow as a leader through meaningful, hands-on learning. Each program includes time for adventure too, like exploring beautiful landscapes, wandering through lively towns and heading out on exciting excursions along the way.

On a Service Learning Adventure, you’ll join volunteer projects connected to a specific academic program theme. These experiences combine service, cultural discovery and adventure, helping you understand local and global issues while growing in confidence and perspective.

Internships take that same spirit of exploration a step further. You’ll work alongside a host organization abroad, developing practical skills and contributing to community projects that make a difference.

Interns complete a minimum of 60 contact hours that include fieldwork, service learning, professional development and self-study. Each day brings opportunities to collaborate with mentors, gain insight into the organization’s work and connect with professionals in the field. By the end, you’ll present your final project and come away with a letter of recommendation and the option to earn college credit through an accredited university.

Both paths give you the chance to challenge yourself, see the world from new angles and learn through real experiences.

Choose your own adventure:

As you browse this catalog, think about what excites you most: destinations, themes, or a specific field of interest. Middle and high school students are invited to enroll in either a Service Learning Adventure or an Internship. Just check the age range for your desired program before signing up.
