Portfolio Reflection: Identities Are Stored A portfolio is more than a collection of perfected work. It holds journey, experimentation, challenges, and the creative decisions made throughout a project. Rather than presenting only polished outcomes, I wanted my portfolio to communicate the entire journey behind my final major project. Every page has been carefully designed to demonstrate not only what I have created, but how I arrived at that outcome through research, reflection, development and refinement. I believe that the process of a project is as valuable as the final result because it demonstrates how ideas appear, evolve, adapt and improve over time. It is an insight into how the creative mind works. My portfolio has therefore been designed to feature my journey in this project and provide an honest reflection of my practice. The concept of my portfolio is identity. Throughout this project, I explored identity as something that is constantly changing, shaped by experiences, emotions, memories and society. Instead of viewing identity as fixed, I wanted to communicate how it develops throughout our lives and how it shapes our character. This idea became the foundation of my creative direction and influenced every visual decision, research choice, photoshoot, campaign concept and design outcome in my project. The ‘Identities are Stored’ project allowed me to combine my interests in fashion communication, art direction, styling and visual storytelling into one cohesive body of work that represents not only my creative interests but the brand I am working for, Studio 204. I chose this project to feature in my portfolio because it represents me both creatively and personally. Throughout my studies I have completed a variety of different assignments, each helping me develop different skills and expand my understanding of my brand and the fashion industry. However, this project challenged me in ways that no previous assignment had. It required me to take on every role from production to styling while coming up with a narrative and direction, only influenced by my imagination and previous experience in studio 204. Rather than simply designing images and filming scenes, I had to carefully consider how every aspect contributed towards the deeper narrative I had written. ‘Identities are Stored’ follows a visual narrative of identity being archived, controlled and then reconstructed through a symbolic look and evolving body language. My story begins in a restrictive and institutional space where the subject is reduced to data and documentation, suggesting a loss of identity and the suppression of society. As the film progresses, the body shifts from closed and controlled movements into expressive and confident gestures, reflecting the gradual emergence of identity. Both looks represents a stage in this transformation, from restriction and fragility to exposure and freedom. By the end, the subject is no longer contained within the archive system but reclaims space through presence and styling, leaving the audience with a sense of emotional impact, as though the identity is still evolving beyond the frame.
