What will the rest of 2021 look like for Everyone Active? As we’ve seen so far this year, 2021 will be about recovery. We will continue working closely with our local authority clients and partners to ensure we’re building customer confidence so they can safely return to our facilities. We’ve received great feedback from our colleagues and seen positive participation levels from our customers and members, so we’re excited for the months ahead. In addition, we will be working together with all colleagues to reestablish our activity plans, coaching courses and tuition programmes. This is a vital part of our offering and will go a long way to re-engaging people of all ages.

What changes have you seen to the general population’s approach to physical activity? The pandemic has made people more conscious of the importance of their own health and gives us an opportunity to best support them, while promoting the health benefits of regular physical activity. With the flexibility that digital delivery can provide, we can take the opportunity to build a much broader based industry. As part of this, we will give people an enhanced offering, not only through access to our centres but also support customers outside our centres with our new and improved Everyone on Demand platform.
What’s next for Everyone Active’s digital offering? During the lockdowns, we kept nearly 4 million people across the country active through new and state-of-theart digital methods, including through our Everyone on Demand platform. We will continue to see a high demand for this digital-led content and are delighted to have launched our new edition of Everyone on Demand to our customers, which offers a 360-wellness solution for our members. And finally, and most importantly, I want to thank all our colleagues, customers and partners for playing a huge role in our reopening!
WHAT WE’VE ACHIEVED DURING LOCKDOWN As we look back on an incredibly challenging year, we reflect on the great achievements and hard work which have ensured we’ve come out stronger than ever. Our successes include; helping causes most in need, donating food to local charities and upskilling our colleagues to ensure our centres are Covid-safe spaces. PROVIDING VITAL SUPPORT FOR THE NHS Over the period of the third lockdown, a number of our centres across the country including Alton Sports Centre, Westgate Leisure Centre, Melton Sports Village and more, helped support the NHS by offering temporary space to administer vaccinations and testing to help tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Whilst some centres like Alton Sports Centre were utilised as rapid testing centres for a temporary period, others like Westgate Leisure Centre, continue to be used by the public as a mass vaccination site by the NHS, alongside the day-to-day running as a leisure facility. No fewer than 46,861 vaccinations have been completed at Westgate Leisure Centre, with that figure set to pass the 50,000 mark before the end of May 2021.

David Love, contract manager at Alton Sports Centre, run in partnership with East Hampshire District Council, said: “The amazing work that NHS employees have done over the past ten months has been vital and we’re delighted to support their ongoing efforts.
“In these unprecedented times, we want to do all we can to support the fight against coronavirus and our Alton Sports Centre offers valuable capacity to help the general public in the months ahead.” We also supported the NHS Better Health campaign at the start of 2021, by joining forces with Public Health England. As part of the campaign, we offered a month’s free trial of our Everyone On Demand digital fitness service to the general public. Our mission was to help tackle lockdown inactivity and support the physical wellbeing of many people across the UK.
NEW CENTRE ACCREDITATIONS After a challenging 13-month period, we were thrilled to see a selection of our London sites acknowledged for their hard work throughout the pandemic and awarded the Fit for Business accreditation. The certificate recognised the high-quality services provided to ensure Covid-19 risk management and prevention. Our centres, run in partnership with Southwark Council, Westminster City Council and Barking & Dagenham London Borough
Council, were all awarded the sports and leisure industry’s new accreditation by nationwide Quest auditors, Right Directions. Prior to this latest achievement, we had previously received recognition for our outstanding services by Sport England’s leading national quality scheme, Quest. The accolade was achieved through working closely with local authority partners to ensure all Government guidelines were met, which allowed for the safe return of all customers
and colleagues in reopening centres after each lockdown. Mark Basker, Everyone Active’s Regional Contract Manager, said: “We’re delighted to receive the Fit for Business accreditation at our leisure centres. This achievement is thanks to the hard work and dedication from our brilliant colleagues at each centre and the continued support we’ve received from our local authority partners.
AND LOOKING AHEAD WITH NEW OPENINGS With the reopening of our centres, we’ve been able to successfully launch new partnerships and bolster existing ones. 2021 will be an exciting year as we continue to expand our portfolio of more than 200 sites!
WINCHESTER SPORT AND LEISURE PARK

We have been working closely with Everyone Active to ensure the centre offers the very best facilities, equipment, access and opportunities for individuals and groups across the district and look forward to them settling into their new Sport & Leisure Park from Saturday 29 May. “The opening marks a major milestone for Winchester City Council in providing top class sport and leisure facilities within the district and our thanks goes to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication in making it happen.” You can find out more about the exciting new facilities via Everyone Active’s website https://www. everyoneactive.com /centre/winchester-sportleisure-park/
INNOVATION IN CENTRES OUR DIGITAL FITNESS OFFERING
THE NEW AND IMPROVED EVERYONE ON DEMAND
In 2020, we utilised our industry connections to launch an exciting new arm to our activity offering through Everyone on Demand (EOD). EOD included access to a range of market-leading fitness apps and is designed to give customers an at-home solution to fitness.
We are excited to launch our next stage of Everyone on Demand. The new-and-improved version offers support on total wellbeing. This true 360-degree support solution provides access to all the health and wellbeing content our members would ever need, whenever and wherever they want it.
Offered as part of our existing memberships or as an independent solution, the response has been hugely positive with 25,000 people utilising the platform.
We’ve built a collective that’s bigger, brighter and better than ever, encompassing a total of eight amazing partners in fitness, personal training, fitness classes, wellness and prescribed exercise.
We also launched several exciting partnerships including teaming up with Synergy Dance. Their collaboration formed part of EOD and offered inclusive and fun activities for all, including people with physical and mental disabilities. Activities range from seated yoga to audio recordings for the visually impaired and blind. Since its launch earlier this year, over 600 people have used the platform!
Whether to refresh a fitness routine or to help improve mental and emotional wellbeing, Everyone On Demand offers easy all-in-one access. The new-and-improved Everyone On Demand was launched on 1st June 2021.
INNOVATION IN CENTRES As part of our enhanced customer offering, we are continually looking to inspire and innovate to encourage people to get active at our centres. Whether that’s the latest technology or equipment at our facilities, we’re delighted to be leading the way in the industry. Here’s just a few examples:
PRAMA We’re delighted to have launched our first PRAMA studio at Chesham Leisure Centre which offers a unique experience where the room itself becomes part of the training. PRAMA is a circuit training controlled by software that uses lights and music to enhance a carefully planned selection of exercises. Boredom isn’t an issue because every day users practice new movements, are challenged by different stimulus and play new games. It’s a place where everyone can train
6
because workouts are easily adaptable, from kids to seniors, from sedentary people to top athletes. That won’t be all at our Chesham and Chalfont Leisure Centres, with customers benefitting from a whole host of improvements at their centres including bigger and better gyms, kitted out with industry leading, state-ofthe-art fitness equipment, brand new group cycling studios with curved wallto-wall immersive screens and new, larger dedicated group exercise studios.
FORTIS, POWERED BY SPEEDFLEX Created in partnership with Everyone Active, FORTIS powered by Speedflex is launching four brand-new studios at our sites in Hornchurch, Basildon, Spelthorne, Fareham and more! FORTIS’s 30-minute HIIT workout is based around Speedflex’s unique personalised resistance concept, allowing every participant to train at their optimum level. The workout is combined with MYZONE to provide members with live heart rate data and feedback on their effort level. The studios also include bespoke FORTIS functional movement stations providing an unlimited variety of workouts. With this new class offering, FORTIS and Everyone Active are giving users an affordable, accessible and inclusive workout, where everyone from experienced athletes to those new to exercise can work out to their maximum, in the same class.
TAG ACTIVE The new TAG Active facility is an immersive obstacle course for all ages, with measurable technology systems to gamify social fitness and created to deliver improved participation from young age groups. An arena-based game designed to test strategy, speed, agility, awareness and bravery, TAG active promotes fitness, fun and competition. The arena itself contains a complicated structure of inter-connected activity areas. Each area contains challenges that require a mixture of physical and mental agility. TAG active can be found at our Lammas Leisure Centre, with the facilities set to open alongside a soft play area at the end of 2021!

OUR ROADMAP STEP 2 STEP 1 29 MARCH 2021 As announced by the government as part of Step 1 of the Roadmap, we were given the first green light in March to reopen outdoor sports facilities including tennis, golf, high-ropes and outdoor pools. We were delighted to begin the first phase of reopening but continued to implement strict procedures to ensure social distancing on and around the facilities, and kept our customers and colleagues updated with all safety measures via direct communications and on our website. We were overwhelmed by the support we received from customers as soon as we reopened, who were keen to get back to activities at our centres.
8
12 APRIL 2021 From 12 April, we were delighted to reopen selected indoor leisure facilities at over 200 centres and at 120 swimming pools across the country. Our members and customers were delighted to be able to return to activities including gym sessions, children’s swimming lessons, racquet sports and more. Our fantastic colleagues worked hard to ensure our returning customers were able to make booking shortly after the government announcement on 5 April. As a result, we received a brilliant number of people returning to our centres in our first week of opening, including: Children attending swimming lessons: 101,915 Gym sessions attended: 214,511 Over 60 attending our centres: 59,332
TO REOPENING STEP 3 17 MAY 2021 As confirmed by the government on Monday 10th May, we were able to move a step closer to full operational activity as part of ‘Step 3’ on the roadmap to reopening. At this stage, we were able to reopen group exercise classes and indoor adult sports such as badminton, tennis, ice rinks and indoor play areas. Aside from the obvious physical benefits, the latest stage of reopening group exercise offered a huge boost for mental health and wellbeing of the local communities we operate, and came at an apt time with-in Mental Health Awareness Week.
HEAR IT FROM OUR CUSTOMERS! Janine Turner, 38, member at Everyone Active’s Eversley Leisure Centre
“I booked on for the first class today at Eversley Leisure Centre, the 7.15am Les Mills Virtual RPM class. It’s the first time I’ve tried the new cycling class and I really enjoyed it. The best thing for me, is that I can attend this class and still have time to go home and get ready for work. It gives me a real energy boost to start the day, even though I know I’ll be aching later on! I’ll also be attending the BodyPump class in the evening and then I’ve got two more classes to attend on 18th, so I’m delighted group exercise has returned and more motivated than ever. Before attending Eversley, I never enjoyed going to the gym but there is such a positive energy from the staff and other members in the class that I now train six or seven times each week. Since joining the centre, I now have a group of friends from classes that I socialise with outside of the centre and we’re even taking on the Scafell Pike climb later in the year. The centre also played a massive part in helping me stay active during lockdowns, I regularly used the Everyone Active Facebook workouts to train and also attended countless Zoom classes run by the fantastic Sue Cook, who is a group exercise instructor at Everyone Active.”

MEET THE TEAM Our Business Development team is a buzz of activity and play a vital role in helping the company grow. Whether tendering for new leisure management contracts or developing new strategies to ensure that we consistently achieve the objectives of local authorities.
The team need to have a fantastic understanding on the sector, and over the last four years, the team have submitted 60 tenders and won almost half of them. It’s a fantastic achievement and one which the whole company can be proud of. The business development team continues to help Everyone Active evolve and develop, while delivering strong results along the way. The last 15 months has provided a number of challenges to Everyone Active as a whole, and the business development team but they continue to rise to the task and are looking ahead to the new ‘normal’. We spoke to business development director, Pete Williams about the ongoing challenges of 2021, the role they play at Everyone Active and also a look ahead to the exciting projects on the horizon…
How many people are part of the team and what are their key responsibilities? I’m the business development director, having joined the team in 2010 at a time when SLM had just 60 sites. It’s been an exciting period since then and over that time, we’ve now grown to 63 contracts with over 200 sports and leisure centres. I couldn’t have done it without the brilliant and experienced
10
team of five around me. Which consists of business development managers, a technical manager and a business development assistant. The main role of the team is to develop our business plans and write proposals to councils as part of a competitive tendering process. We bid against other leisure operators to win new contracts and pride ourselves on having an excellent tender success rate of winning one in every two bids that we’ve submitted over the last four years. The team work closely with the Everyone Active directors, group managers and contract management teams to develop capital schemes and business plans and then present our proposals to councils. A bid can take anything from three months, to over a year and it’s a fantastic feeling when our hard work pays off with a new contract win!
What does a typical day look like (since reopening sites?) Business development roles are very varied, and no two days are ever the same. In ‘normal’ times we spend a lot of time visiting potential new sites, meeting with councils and looking at ways in which we can improve, develop and innovate at new contracts and facilities. Many of the new facilities we take on require investment and our team work closely with design and build contractors to look at ways in which we can improve facilities in ways that will engage communities. In line with the Everyone Active core strategy, by helping to get people active more often and deliver an improved position for the council.
A typical day could include reviewing tender requirements, writing up bid proposals and compiling financial business plans. A lot of time is spent meeting with councils and EA colleagues to discuss and develop our tenders, making sure we have covered all the bid requirements as best we can. Since we have re-opened, we have started bidding on some exciting new opportunities and we hope to see the tendering market recover to the levels that it was pre-pandemic.
What’s been the biggest learning over the past 15 months? The last 15 months have been very difficult for everyone, including our local authority partners, and this led to most councils postponing their tender processes. As a business we had to react and respond to the changing environment around us. We continued to operate to the best standard as a team and manage the situation, as some councils continued with tenders. Over this period, we successfully retained our Stratford on Avon DC and Ashfield DC contracts and also secured new contracts with East Suffolk and Winchester Councils. We have learned a lot, none more so than the importance of having a robust contract with our councils, that provides us with continued financial support in the event of a pandemic. This has been crucial in helping Everyone Active through the crisis. The company has also developed some great new ideas such as Everyone On Demand and this will help us show that
we are a forward-thinking operator that promotes activity beyond the walls of our leisure centres.
What challenges are you looking forward to in the next 12 months? We are hoping to continue on the roadmap to reopening, and the full reopening of our centres. This will help us to build and develop a number of new tender opportunities across the country. As it stands, we’re currently busy working on a number of bids, with more to come later in the year. As a team, we’re excited by the initial stages of ‘normality’ returning and there are some exciting new facilities currently under construction, which we will be bidding for.
11
Our Spelthorne contract will also be up for tender later in the year and we will be working closely with the fantastic Spelthorne team to make sure that we do our very best to retain the contract for another term. The pandemic has highlighted even greater need for people to be more active and the new Sport England Strategy, “Uniting the Movement” will be important to councils as they look for their operators to align to the new strategy. We will need to provide case study examples of where our programmes have encouraged communities to get active again and we will be pleased to hear from colleagues with examples of how Everyone Active is helping them to get moving and improve their health and wellbeing.
Above all, we are pleased to be back in business and look forward to working with our colleagues to continue to deliver success and grow the business.

SOCIAL VALUE
Social Value Analysis We recognise the importance of Social Value and how our service delivery impacts on the local communities we serve. We utilise 4Global and Datahub Social Value reports to evidence the Social Value impacts that we make. Using evidence based academic research, undertaken by Sheffield Hallam University and funded by DCMS and Sport England. The Social Value Calculator (SVC) provides the ability to measure and value the impacts of sports and physical activity we offer. Using our EA card data for all centres and sector- wide benchmarks, SVC gives insight to the value in community savings generated across four key areas; Health Care, Education, Wellbeing and Crime. In 2019/20 we generated £342 million of social return from programmes delivered across England.

OUR FUNDRAISING TEAM FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT We couldn’t be happier to continue our support for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Since the start of our partnership, you have helped us raise a fantastic £76,000* for people living with cancer. This could help fund a Macmillan nurse for over 15 months, or enable the Macmillan Support Line to answer 4,467 calls from people with concerns about cancer. This year, we’ll be continuing our support for the fantastic cause, with a number of colleagues challenging themselves in different endurance events.

CHASING THE SUN The first challenge is from group food and beverage manager, Andy Coupe, who is taking on the Chase the Sun (South), on Saturday 19th June.

Starting in the Thames estuary, the 205-mile route bisects south London, passing Richmond Park, bridging the Thames, onto Wiggins’ Olympic time trial route, plus west-country highlights, the lush Vale of Pewsey, Mendip Hills, the breath-taking Cheddar Gorge, before arriving at the finish line on the sea front in Burnham-on-Sea.
RACE TO THE STONES Next up is the group development director, Ben Beevers. On 10th July, Ben will be undertaking a 100km ultra marathon called the Race to the Stones. In September 2014 Ben was diagnosed with Mantel Cell Lymphoma. Over the next month, further tests identified that the cancer was stage 4 and had spread to his neck, abdomen, spine, spleen and lungs. Six months of chaemotherapy treatment put him in hospital twice with life threatening infections. Some days he was barely able to walk up the stairs and simple tasks were exhausting.
Finally, after a stem cell transplant, he was in full remission and six years later, he still is, with check-ups every 12 months.
MARATHON! Finally, we’ve got the Everyone Active London Marathon team, consisting of at least five colleagues who will be taking on the marathon on Sunday 3rd October. The 26.2-mile challenge begins near Blackheath in Greenwich. The worldfamous London Marathon route has remained largely unchanged since the inaugural race in 1981 and encompasses many of the capital’s most mesmerising landmarks, old and new. One of the Everyone Active participants will be PR and Communications Manager – Trade and Consumer, Dan Mason, will be taking on his first ever marathon distance!
NEW PARTNERSHIPS INTRODUCING OUR NEW NUTRITION AMBASSADOR AND CHEF, JONNY MARSH We are very pleased to have teamed up with professional chef Jonny Marsh to create quick, easy-to-follow recipes for our members and customers to help support active lifestyles and offer healthy family options. Jonny’s worked at some of the best restaurants in the country and cooks for top Premier League footballers, including Manchester United’s Luke Shaw and Manchester City’s İlkay Gündoğan. Therefore, he understands the need for a healthy diet alongside an active lifestyle. Jonny has previously worked with us to support our brilliant Sporting Champions scheme and is excited to support our customers with their tips and tricks to supplement their eating habits. We also got to find about a bit more from Jonny’s about eating healthily and how to enjoy the cooking experience?
“Eating healthily is enormously important and I believe massively in following a healthy lifestyle rather than fad diets, macro counting or carb counting methods. “I believe with good cooking techniques and a little extra thought, you can produce superhealthy food that doesn’t require any real effort or time but brings so much flavour and can feed the whole family.” You can read more about the partnership, watch our announcement video and see Jonny’s current work with Premier League footballers here: https://www. everyoneactive.com/content-hub/nutrition/nutritionambassador-chef-jonny-marsh/

WW PARTNERSHIP With 41% of Brits admitting to a weight increase during the lockdowns and restrictions of 2020 and 65% of those gaining half a stone or more, it’s clear 2020 has had a huge impact on the nation’s health and wellness. As we move into 2021, 50% of Brits have committed to better health and wellbeing, 36% want to lose some weight and 33% want to exercise more. With this in mind, the partnership between WW and Everyone Active gives significant health and wellness benefits to both WW and EA members with substantial savings and exclusive access both in-centre and across both app platforms for the first time . Duncan Jefford, Regional Director at EA says: “The
myWW+ and EA partnership is important because it closes the loop between diet, fitness and mental health. It is a complete solution to anyone going through fitness or weight challenges and has struggled to get results. We have fantastic member fitness success rates and to offer that service paired with the world’s greatest wellness brand is a first for everyone who wants to get on top of their mental and physical health this year.”
CARE FIRST We are very pleased to be working with Care first to provide completely free and confidential support, counselling and information to all of our staff via our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). The EAP allows staff to access 24/7 in the moment support from UK based, professionally trained counsellors where they can access help and support for work related or personal issues as many times as you need. The EAP can also refer staff for structured counselling if clinically appropriate. Staff can also access information and advice around things like finances, debt, legal information, and benefits from Care first’s Telephone Information Specialists. As Care first are an independent EAP provider, all contact with the service is completely confidential and you can self-refer to the service 24/7 without having to let anybody know that you are contacting the EAP for support. As part of the team managing the partnership, our Group Quality and Training Manager, Kim Bames, said: Being supportive is one of our four Everyone Active values, and we need to ensure we put these into action and that they are relevant for our colleagues. As we entered the pandemic we recognised that we needed to provide excellent colleague support in a challenging time. We partnered with Care first who provide a range of services to develop a colleague assistance programme. They offer a confidential 24 hour telephone service for any colleague together with a useful web site that provides more information and webinars supporting a range of topics. We wanted colleagues to be able to use these services whenever they felt they needed as we recognised we all deal with situations differently. To ensure everyone is aware of the service we included the details in our induction and for current colleagues, we have also added a link on our colleague app and managers at site have been sharing the service with their teams
Over 75% of colleagues feel that the reopening of leisure centres has helped improve their mental wellbeing

IN THE NEWS WE CELEBRATE SOME OF THE FANTASTIC EFFORTS FROM OUR COLLEAGUES AND CUSTOMERS IN THE COMMUNITIES AND LOCAL NEWS! was a particularly challenging period, it was an honour to be able to support the local community and make a difference.
OUR COLLEAGUE AND LOCAL HERO Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre manager, Tom Fletcher was picked as Havering’s hero for his contribution to the community during the pandemic. The project, hosted by the BBC, asked London councils to nominate a lockdown hero in their borough – someone who has made a significant difference to their community in this difficult time. Tom Fletcher, area contract manager for Everyone Active leisure centres in Havering, worked with the local authority to set up a support hub at Hornchurch Sports Centre - which has been replaced by Harrow Lodge - in March last year to meet the needs of the local community with the outbreak of Covid-19. With support from the council and a selection of furloughed colleagues, Tom set up a socially-distanced and Covid-secure warehouse that operated seven days a week in order to provide food and PPE packages to Havering residents in need. The team at Hornchurch Sports Centre has facilitated the delivery of more than 3,000 food packages and over 500 PPE deliveries to shielding residents, local food banks, care homes and key workers. Tom Fletcher, said: “I feel so humbled to have won this award. Although it

“I am so proud of the teams at both Hornchurch Sports Centre and Havering Council who worked so well together to set up and operate the support hub. It was fantastic to be able to utilise the centre during its closure and help the local community through such a difficult time for everyone.”
OUR LOCKDOWN LEGENDS
During such challenging times, it was important we recognised and championed those individuals that were ‘doing their bit’ for their local community and going above and beyond to help those most in need. From your local GP to the whistling and cheerful postie, from your regular delivery driver to all the schoolteachers having to teach remotely, our local heroes have kept the country going in the most challenging and unprecedented times.
From 1st January to 15th March 2021, we gave our local communities the opportunity to nominate their Lockdown Legends - both children and adults - with the chosen winners receiving a year’s free membership at one of our centres through our innovative brand campaign. In addition, we gave all NHS staff local to our centres the opportunity to claim a free month’s membership in June 2021 to help stay active and unwind from their long shifts. We received over 1,000 fantastic nominations and over 2,500 NHS workers will take advantage of their free month’s membership. To announce the winners, we worked with Everyone Active ambassador and former world champion hurdler, Colin Jackson! The two winners were, Matthew Curzon, for all his amazing work and support through the pandemic as headmaster at St Mary’s Primary School, and 10 year old Poppy Holden, for helping her family and doing great with her homeschooling! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=265447325165758
