ABOUT THE SHOW
Las Mujeronas [loss moo-hair-OWN-us] is a powerful, trailblazing work that celebrates fierce and confident women navigating struggles, rebuilding their lives, and reclaiming their voices, identities, dreams, and passions. This performance features Flamenco Latinas in Canada as they explore immigrant identities and reconnect with their home cultures through the art of flamenco.
Incorporating flamenco elements such as Ida y Vuelta [EEda ee voo-EL-ta] (“going and coming”)—a musical form influenced by the cultural exchange between the Americas and Spain—Las Mujeronas examines how migration shapes personal and collective narratives. The piece blends flamenco dance, poetry, singing, and storytelling to create a vibrant, emotional experience.
The performance culminates in a lively, interactive rumba flamenca, where the audience is invited to join in a follow-theleader-style song and community dance party.

JHOELY TRIANA | CHOREOGRAPHER
Jhoely Triana is a Colombian born flamenco dancer and choreographer based in Vancouver. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance from Simon Fraser University and trained at the Goh Ballet Academy, Al Mozaico Flamenco and Flamenco Rosario. Her work has been presented at major festivals and venues, including, the STAND Festival at the Annex Theatre, the Victoria and Vancouver International Flamenco Festivals, Vines Festival, Vancouver Fringe Festival and The Dance Centre.
ISABEL PACHECO | SINGER
Isabel Pacheco “La Zarmari” is a flamenco dancer from Ubrique, Cádiz, Andalusia, known for her primal, trance-like style. She began dancing at 7 and trained with notable flamenco artists.
At 17, she moved to Granada, continuing her studies and performing in the city’s tablaos and theaters. She has since performed worldwide and now lives in Canada, where she teaches and shares flamenco culture.
PETER MOLE | COMPOSER/GUITAR
Peter Mole has been performing flamenco for over thirty years. He has been engaging audiences across Canada and in every major venue in Vancouver, including the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the Chan Centre and main stage at the Vancouver Folk Festival.
He composed and performed the music for “Mariposa: The Butterfly’s Evil Spell”, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and performed and composed the score for the NFB documentary “Opre Roma” with “Los Canasteros”.
LUIZA LIBARDI | DANCER
Luiza Libardi is a Brazilian-Canadian Vancouver-based flamenco dancer and garment maker passionate about exploring self-expression through movement and craft. A graduate of the Flamenco Rosario Professional Training Program, she continues to perform and collaborate within the local flamenco community.
MARCELA LOPEZ | DANCER
Marcela Lopez is a Mexican soul who finds in flowers and flamenco a sacred language to communicate with God. Through movement and creation, she expresses gratitude, light, and devotion - honoring life as a divine dance of love and beauty.

JESSICA ORYALL | DANCER
Jessica Oryall, born in Lima Peru and raised in Vancouver, is a multidisciplinary artist as well as a dancer with the Flamenco Rosario dance company. She is proud to present her solo work titled “Comienzos” with Las Mujeronas as a part of the Evergreen Cultural Centre Rehearsal Hall Sessions.
DESIREE CARLSON | DANCER
Desiree Carlson is a Mexican-Canadian existential therapist, mom and bailaora (flamenco dancer) with over 20 years of experience. Her passion is to bring joy, intimacy, authenticity, and “outside of the box” transformation to people and spaces she co-exists with.
