Digital Portfolio 1/2

For my National 5 design portfolio, I chose to focus on the theme of flower forms. I drew flowers and simplified them into more basic forms. I experimented with various techniques to create an interesting and extravagant headpiece, such as felt-making, Linocut printing, papier-mâché, and heat transfer printing.

This is my National 5 expressive portfolio. The theme was shattered images, and within that theme, it was looking back at ‘shattered memories’ and focusing on old age and patterns. The images to the left were my starting erent colours and

The two images above were my development pieces. The left one was a young girl with a shattered piece of glass covering part of her face, this is her older self. The one on the right is an older lady with shattered glass with patterns throughout the piece.

This was my final outcome. The same lady is used, and her face is in all the different shards of shattered glass. Each shard had a different technique, such as coloured pencils, sketching pencils, oil paints, acrylic paints, watercolours, and oil pastels.

Higher Design

In the ‘Oceans Circles’ project, I started by drawing an octopus' tentacle and a seashell. I noticed that they looked quite similar, both circular shapes, so I then decided to focus on circles created by nature in the ocean. The images to the left was my starting points.

The images to the right are my development stages. I used various techniques to make an extravagant neckpiece, including felt making, embroidery, sewing and heat transfer. Alexander McQueen inspired me to include embroidery in my design, as he used this in some of his most elaborate pieces.

Final outcome

This was the final outcome, and I was very happy that it came out so extravagant and was quite visually impactful. When you look closer in the neckpiece, you can see a lot of very intricate embroidery and circular patterns.

Higher Expressive - Stalked

These were my starting point drawings and paintings, I used watercolours for the first one, and normal sketching pencils for the second one. The third image is an inspiration image from Jasper Jones.

These two photos were my development pieces. I experimented with different techniques, the left was a mix of the starting point techniques, sketching and watercolours, and the second development piece is using coloured pencils in the phone and the background, normal sketching in the hands.

Advanced higher art

Bloom to decay

The four images above are my starting point. I chose three owers, drew them, and then further

The images above are one of my design ideas for a corset, which I then made slight changes to twice.

These long wires were wrapped with embroidery thread and then some, I had added accessories like beads to them. These were to see what worked and what didn’t so I will know for the final outcome.

The pictures on the left are done with papier-mâché. The further left one is a flower to add to my corset top and the right image is the start of me creating the base for my corset top. This is an unfinished project I am working on right now.

Paper manipulation

I explored ‘Paper Manipulation’, which involved cutting, folding, and twisting, creating volume and texture. This helped me understand how such simple materials, like paper, can be transformed into something intriguing. The use of this simple media enables my commitment to sustainability. After I had created what I thought was my final piece, I decided to add colour, which, in turn, I believe gave it a stronger visual impact.
