Lions Club hosts charity gala
THE Lions Club of Palma will host another of its renowned charity galas on May 18 at 8pm - this time at Lío Mallorca, the stylish venue located on Palma’s Paseo Marítimo. According to the organisers, guests can expect a dazzling night themed Back to the Future, promising ‘an extraordinary cabaret concept’ that merges vintage glamour with futuristic flair. The evening’s entertainment will feature bold choreography, stunning visuals, and unexpected musical twists. Adding to the experience is a top-tier Mediterranean-inspired menu curated by Michelin-starred chef Andreu Genestra. Tickets are currently priced at €110, with a later increase to €129 (plus a €2.60 handling fee). The ticket price includes a choice of set menu for each guest, along with wine, beer, and soft drinks. Guests must be at least 18 years old to attend. Reservations can be made via the official website. Those wishing to sit together must book as a group, and are asked to submit the names and menu preferences of all attendees when registering. The proceeds from the gala will go towards Comida para todos (‘Food for All’), a grassroots aid initiative that has gained traction for its simplicity

Community unites AT Son Bonet Aerodrome in Mallorca, a passionate community of volunteers is breathing new life into aviation history. United by a love of classic design, the diverse group of pilots, mechanics, retirees, and more, is restoring abandoned classic aircraft like the WWII-era Douglas DC-3. Since 2018, under the Amigos de la Aviación Histórica, they’ve poured countless hours into preserving the Balearic Islands’ aviation heritage. Their hangar, a living museum, buzzes with activity every day as they honour the past, from the DC-3’s scars to the Antonov AN-2s. The tight-knit group is currently welcoming more and more contributors from around the world, all sharing their love of flight history. Beyond the hangar, they participate locals at fairs, showcasing their work. Together, the 40 volunteers, with a core dozen active members, prove the power of community in keeping history alive. Two delivery vans operate across the island, collecting unsold produce - mostly fresh fruit and vegetables - from 25 Lidl supermarkets and distributing it to food banks and social aid projects throughout Mallorca. Swiss national Wolfgang Krämer, who heads the initiative, estimates monthly running costs - including fuel, driver salaries and vehicle maintenance - at around €10,000.
