Luxury vessel stuns Mallorca coast

Welcome to Portals!

RESIDENTS and visitors along Mallorca’s southwest coast have been watching an extraordinary sight this week after a massive superyacht anchored just off Puerto Portals. The 138-metre vessel Luminance, reportedly valued at around €400 million, has been drawing attention from yacht-spotters and beachgoers as it sits just outside the luxury marina. The yacht belongs to Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, the founder of investment group System Capital Management.

For many people living in Mallorca, the arrival of such spectacular yachts is a familiar part of island life, particularly around the glamorous marinas of the southwest. Designed by renowned yacht designer Espen Øino, Luminance can host up to 40 guests across 20 cabins, with a crew of more than 20 onboard. One of its most talkedabout features is its enormous beach club, which includes an infinity pool positioned close to the waterline, allowing guests to

swim just metres above the Mediterranean. The yacht also includes helipads, a spa, gym and expansive entertainment areas. The appearance of vessels like Luminance highlights Mallorca’s reputation as a Mediterranean hots-

pot for luxury yachting. Marinas such as Puerto Portals regularly welcome some of the world’s most impressive private yachts giving locals an unexpected glimpse into ultra-luxury life at sea. One thing is sure, Luminance is set to light up Portals’ marina!

Smart beach days MALLORCA beach days are getting a digital upgrade. Calvia Town Hall has introduced a new mobile booking system that allows beachgoers to reserve sunbeds and parasols in advance, changing how residents and visitors plan time on the sand. The move comes as several popular beaches in the southwest of Mallorca reopen for the season, but it’s the new tech that’s drawing the most attention from locals. For the first time, visitors will be able to reserve loungers and umbrellas using a mobile app instead of searching for available sunbeds when they arrive. By checking availability and booking ahead, beachgoers can secure their place before leaving home. Officials say the app is designed to improve accessibility and streamline beach services, although the official name of the app has not yet been publicly announced. The booking system launches alongside the reopening of six beaches in Calvia: Es Carregador, Na Nadala and Son Maties in Palmanova, and Palmira, Torà and La Romana in Peguera. The change signals that beach season has officially begun - this time with a digital twist. Credit: VisitCalvia
