Nadal tees up for charity Royal honour awarded Joined other sporting legends for a good cause
MALLORCA’S favourite sporting son was back on home turf this week as Rafael Nadal headlined The Battle of the Stars, one of the island’s most prestigious charity sporting events. Held at Pula Golf Resort and Son Servera Golf Club on Mallorca’s east coast, the annual tournament brought together a host of international sporting icons for three days of competition and fundraising. Although Nadal was the biggest draw, he was joined by an impressive line-up that included former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, tennis legend Andy Murray, Spain international Álvaro Morata, former Chelsea and Italy star Gianfranco Zola, ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, Ukrainian football great Andriy Shevchenko, German football icon Bernd Schuster and former NBA player Rudy Fernández. The tournament follows a pro-am format, giving amateur golfers the opportunity to play alongside famous athletes while supporting a good cause. from across Europe. But beyond the celebrity appearances, the event has a serious purpose. The Battle of the Stars was created to raise funds and awareness for ALS, also known as motor neurone disease, and multiple sclerosis. Money generated through the tournament helps support
research, treatment programmes and charitable initiatives linked to both conditions. For Nadal, who was born in Manacor and remains closely connected to the island, the event offered another opportunity to support a cause close to many people’s hearts while showcasing
Mallorca on an international stage. With world-famous athletes, spectacular golf courses and an important charitable mission, The Battle of the Stars once again proved why it has become one of the standout events in Mallorca’s annual sporting calendar.
Mallorca charity founder recognised with British Empire Medal
A MALLORCA charity founder has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in King Charles III’s Birthday Honours in recognition of years spent helping vulnerable people across the island. Nick Entwisle, founder and president of Yachting Gives Back, received the honour for his contribution to charitable work in Mallorca. The organisation has become a lifeline for many local charities, collecting donations from the yachting community and distributing them to food banks, homeless shelters, soup kitchens and groups supporting families, children and young people in need. Announcing the award, Entwisle said he was proud to accept the recognition but stressed that it belonged just as much to the volunteers and supporters who have helped the charity grow over the years. He paid tribute to the team who sort and deliver donations, as well as the yacht crews, businesses and residents who have contributed goods, money and fundraising support. Founded in Mallorca, Yachting Gives Back has built strong links between the island’s international yachting sector and local charitable organisations, helping channel support to those most in need.
