Important notice for EU citizens on municipal roll THE Foreign Residents' Department wishes to remind EU citizens of the need to confirm their registration on the 'padron' (municipal roll) every two years. In case of not doing so, you would lose your 'empadronado' or registered status and you won't be eligible for tax and municipal services grants. Fourth anniversary brings name change for library Los Boliches Nordic library has seen four years of dramatic growth THE Nordic library has celebrated its fourth anniversary by changing its name to International library. The Quevedo municipal library in los Boliches hosted an event on October 15 to make the new designation official. Councillor for Foreign Residents, Katia Westerdahl, announced during a press conference that this change
comes after the dramatic growth in the library collection in the past four years. Westerdahl was joined by representatives from the International library, Marja Tahtinen and Sinikka Parkkali, who thanked the town hall and Mayor Esperanza Oña for making the library possible. The International library in los Boliches currently has a
collection of more than 3,000 books in English, german, French, Finnish, Danish and Swedish. Anyone interested in working as a volunteer at the International library is more than welcome. You just have to pop in to the International library at los Boliches Deputy Mayor's Office on Calle Fruta or call 952 460 750.

Town hall saves €125,000 on roadworks in Torreblanca THe councillor for Town Planning, ana Mula, has announced that the town hall has saved €125,000 on renovation work in calle castaño in Torreblanca. In a visit to supervise the work, Mula said this has been possible thanks to the local Operational services carrying out the work instead of it being handled by private tender. Mula also pointed out the effort the town hall is putting into renovating many areas in Fuengirola, with works under way in calle arapiles, calle
Maestro albeniz, calle santa cruz and calles Martinez catena and lamo de espinosa. Roadworks in calle castaño comprise an area of 978 square metres between calle Mirlos and calle gorriones. They include the division of the storm drainage and the sewer into two separate systems, as well as improvements to the water supply network. Pavements will be widened in accordance to the accessibility standards regulation. In addition, 10 new lampposts, eight rubbish bins and four street pillars will be installed.

Seasonal flu vaccination campaign begins THE seasonal flu vaccination campaign is to start on November 11 at the Puebla lucia social centre from 10am. local Councillor for Senior Citizens, Francisco Jose Martin, announced that the campaign has been organised in cooperation with the los Boliches health centre. The 2013 campaign also includes the vaccination for the H1N1 flu virus (known as swine or A flu). In addition, those aged between 65 and 71 can be vaccinated against Streptococcus Pneumoniae, which causes pneumonia. Senior citizens who wish to take advantage of the campaign can go to the social centre at Puebla lucia with their pensioner card from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Four new patrol cars join the local police fleet COUNCIllOR for Citizen Safety, Rodrigo Romero, has announced that four new patrol cars have been added to the local Police fleet. They are four Renault Scenic 1.2 Authentiques, fully equipped with safety devices, which have been leased from Alphabeat España Fleet Management for €198,000.

New 1,000m2 park set for Torreblanca FUENgIROlA TOWN HAll is to build a new 1,000-square-metre park between Calle Helechos and Calle Sauce in Torreblanca. Councillors for Public Works and green Areas, Ana Mula and Dolores Buzon, have announced that the work to build the new park will start on November 11 with a budget
of €63,248. This is the 36th park in Fuengirola and it is expected to open to the public during December. The park will have a green area in which 15 new trees will be planted. It will also have a children’s area with a swing, a slide and a seesaw, all of which will
comply with the required safety regulations. In addition, a gym area is to be installed. It will be made up of four different kinds of apparatus to exercise legs, arms and abdominals. The park will be environmental friendly as light will be provided by lED lampposts.
Hiking day for local seniors THE local Senior Citizens Department has organised a hiking day trip in the Montes de Malaga natural park on November 15. Head of the department, Francisco Jose Martin, announced that the trip has been set up at the request of elderly residents in the town. Anyone interested in participating can call in to the Tercera Edad building located in Calle Blanca Paloma. Fees are €26 (lunch included) or €13 (with no lunch) to be paid in the following 24 hours after siging-up. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as well as a cap and sunscreen and carry a backpack. The hiking track at the Montes de Malaga natural park is between five and seven kilometres and suitable for all abilities. Hikers will have the chance to discover one of the most beautiful spots in Malaga, of great botanic value. Several viewpoints overlooking the park will be visited as well as the lagar de Torrijos Museum.

Sexy treats on 5th Erotic Tapas Route Participants can sample the delights of dishes with an erotic theme, like ‘Mediterranean Lust’ or ‘Granny is also in the mood’ COUNCIllOR for Tourism, Ignacio Souviron, has unveiled the poster for the fifth Erotic Tapas Route to be held from November 1 to 17. This is one of the most anticipated events by local catering businesses, which served more than 270,000 erotic-themed tapas in the previous edition. This year, 78 bars, cafes and restaurants will take part in this 'sexy' culinary competition offering a tapa for only €2 plus a drink.
Participants have to decide which is the best tapa of all, but they will have to try at least 10 different ones from 10 different bars during the whole 18 days of the trail. Customers will be surprised at the unusual names and shapes of the dishes, as they have an erotic theme. So, for example, they may eat a 'Mediterranean lust' or a 'granny is also in the mood.' To participate, a so-called 'tapas passport' has to be shown to
the bartender. These are available for free at the participating venues, the Tourist Office, the Town Hall and the Casa de la Cultura. Those who fill in their passports will have the right to join in a raffle for several prizes, including a cruise for two people. In addition, participants are invited to promote the event on the social networking website Twitter using the hashtag #FuengirolaMePone (Fuengirola turns me on).

Municipal employment plan provides work for 20 locals MAYOR of Fuengirola, Esperanza Oña, has announced that 20 unemployed local people will be hired to carry out renovation works on Calle ladera and Calle Alfonso XII. The works form part of the Municipal Employment Plan and have an estimated budget of €325,000. The aim of the plan is to hire unemployed locals who are registered with the Municipal Employment Bureau. The mayor pointed out that the town hall has created a great number of jobs with this plan despite the Junta de Andalucia being responsible for employment in the region. She also explained that Fuengirola’s budget for employment is six times bigger than the help provided by the Junta. Calle ladera and Calle Alfonso XII will see their appearance and their underground infrastructures renovated thanks to this initiative.

Sports for all in Fuengirola through grants FUENgIROlA Town Hall spent €38,000 to encourage local residents enrol in sports activities during the 2012/2013 season. Councillor for Sport, Pedro Cuevas, explained that 451 people benefited from the investment in the form of grants. He said the grants Section at the local Social Services Department provides assistance to any resident in need of financial aid to carry out the activities offered by the town hall. Following the criteria set by the Junta de Andalucia, this department awards grants which cover from 20 per cent of the expenses to 100
