Applause for heroes FIREFIGHTERS from Malaga province showed exceptional bravery by volunteering straight away to head into the two epicentres of powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela. Fearless specialists from the provincial consortium in Malaga, Marbella, Estepona and along the Malaga coast, took the decision at the drop of a hat. They brought a trained rescue dog called Rasty and specialist equipment such as thermal and infrared cameras along with seismic sensors. Only the lives of thousands trapped under rubble and collapsed structures mattered to them in this highly dangerous setting. Resolute and single-minded in their purpose, the group put personal safety second to the urgent need to find survivors. Crowds at Malaga airport applauded loudly as they boarded the plane for the journey.

MALAGA FIREFIGHTERS DEPART FOR DISASTER ZONE

Unwavering bravery as Malaga firefighters arrive.

More rescuers from the region are joining the team to strengthen the response from Malaga. President Francisco Salado of the Diputacion de Malaga praised the province’s unity and the firefighters’

experience from past emergencies such as the DANA floods and earthquakes in Turkey and Morocco. He spoke of their high qualifications, technical abilities and human commitment as a source of pride for the

province. Time remains critical after disasters of this scale. Specialists wait for safe conditions to reach Caracas but stay fully prepared to begin search operations the moment clearance arrives.
