Pristine shores LOCAL Torremolinos authorities have worked around the clock to bring its beaches up to scratch after pipe leaks from neighbouring Malaga City put the summer season at great risk through pollution. Council teams carried out rapid and thorough cleaning and remediation work to address the threat effectively. Analysis of water samples from Carihuela, Bajondillo, Playamar and Los Alamos beaches by the University of Malaga confirms the sea is back to excellent quality levels. Collaborating with Aguas de Torremolinos, they tested for risks in bathing area zones according to national and European standards. All sites achieved the highest ratings. Several years of ongoing study have found the highest level of ‘excellent’ through samples taken at various points across each beach.

Fortnightly checks continue until mid-September during peak visitor times. Every beach has kept its Blue Flag for 2026 in recognition of strong environmental management, safety and maintenance efforts. Torremolinos also holds Q for quality and S for sustainability awards for the best governance and sustainable practices.
Expectations indicate more than one million tourists will arrive for this sum-
mer season, as now the sea could not be cleaner or healthier to bathe in.
