NEIGHBOURS’ sharp eyes and rapid action by Guardia Civil officers saved a 74-year-old British man in a Mazarron urbanisation after he spent up to three days unconscious from severe heatstroke. Local residents alerted emergency services when they realised they had not seen the man, who has diabetes, for several days and noticed his car remained parked outside. Officers dispatched from Totana forced open a window mosquito net to reach a set of keys inside and gain entry. They discovered the pensioner collapsed on an upstairs floor. He had a pulse but failed to respond to voices or touch. Paramedics attributed his state to extreme heatstroke that left him incapacitated for days. An ambulance rushed him to Hospital Santa Lucia in Cartagena in a very serious condition. Following several weeks of intensive treatment, he made a full recovery and returned home.
